Poured from 12 oz. bottle (with typos) into a pint glass.

Appears a dark brown with some red highlights. Starts out with a one and a half finger head that sinks to nothing.

Aroma is caramelly with a bit of chocolate and some alcohol.

Taste starts out with caramel, then there is some chocolate, a weird minerally kind of taste, and a bunch of alcohol.

Mouthfeel is medium, pretty good.

Not the best doppelbock, it's OK.

Blue waxed bomber (so what) from Wise Guys, $7.97... it was a gusher when opened.

Into a tumbler it pours a ruddy dark brown, transparent mahogany edges glinting in the light. Loose foam, soapy and billowing above the rim, seemingly overcarbonated. Second and third pours are slow, and it still billows up quickly. Fizzy tan foam fades after a couple minutes.

Nutty, malty, molasses, raisin, tobacco leaf traces. Fairly subdued and faint, but pleasant.

Dry tobacco and cocoa flavors, bittersweet bakers chocolate. A little chalky and dry in the aftertaste with a lingering honey flavor. Feel is light but also a bit foamy, with a twinge of alcohol in the aftertaste. It just sort of turns to foam on the palate. Overall ok, but a bit overcarbonated and slight hint of booze. Otherwise a pretty good example of a Doppelbock.

12 oz. into pint glass. (Trappist glass dirty)

A: Very nice looking with a huge 4 finger light brown head that dissipates to nearly nothing but a ring. Very dark but not opaque, can see a wee light through her.

S: Malty and caramelly. Coffee, chocolate.

T: Sweet rich bitter caramel and coffee with a wee bit of chocolate. Kinda port like but with a taste thats far better.

D: Potent, but very nice.

a friend (dispholidus1) picked up a sixer of this when we visited the brewery last weekend, and im glad he did because its a pretty nice drink. dark with a reddish brown tinge. sweet malty odor, smells pretty good but not too strong. sweet taste at first but mellows out after a couple of gulps (alcohol effect maybe). fruity too (plums?) thick mouthfeel, just a bit removed from being syrupy. more carbonated than it looks, which adds to the flavor. i must say that this is rather deceptively alcoholic. maybe more so than any other beer i've had. very nicely done brewmaster chuck.

A spring seasonal from my hometown brewery. Purchases 2 sixer's for 12.99 each on over Memorial Day weekend. I decided to leave it alone for a couple of months to more conditioning

Deep brown and garnet. Very quick disapating, tan head. No visable carbonation.
Chocolate and prunes. Some spices. Some light hop aroma.
Chocolate cover toffee, or maybe caramel. Prunes or rasins. Light coffee notes. Some lingerins alcohol.
Full bodied. Rolls over the tonge nicely. Very few (if any) bubbles.

I have it stuck in my memory that this one comes in at 9%. For that big a beer, this is very drinkable. Maybe one a week.

Backroad does a good job. Everybody should visit if given the opportunity.

Dark ruby black with a nice, lasting, but ultimately disappearing tan head. Very porterish on the nose. Chocolates, slight bit of roast. This is also fairly estery. The same goes for the flavor, but the esters get strong and bubblegummy. The bubblegum isn’t really to style, but I’m kind of digging it anyway.
