On tap @ the Elephant & Castle, Boston, MA
Aged copper colour with a very mild chill haze, creamy tiny bubbled lace sticks well to the sides of the glass. Big buttery, fruity and hop aromas. Very smooth with a moderate carboantion and slightly chewy mouth feel. Flavours of buttery diacetyl, ripe fruit, malt sweetness push up against a stright-up hop bitterness that does a good job of keeping things in balance. Finishes with a lingering steely caramel malt sweetness and faint buttery tones.
A damn fine ale and I am very glad to find a place that has it on tap.

On tap @ the Elephant & Castle, Boston, MA ...
Bright copper in colour with a thin, laced, tight and creamy white head.
Smooth upfront with a semi-coarse leafy hop feel. Dry and astringent characters follow. This bitter is slightly malty (more so as it warms) with wood, bitter tea flavours and a background fruity flavour. The wood flavours embed themselves in the roof of the mouth, along with notes of earth. Thin tea-like floral finish.
A tasty and traditional bitter that would also make for a nice session beer. Nice find on tap.

Presentation: 500ml (1pt 0.9fl oz) English brown bottle.
Appearance: Tawny, hazy orange with a thin off-white lace.
Smell: Mildly fruity and some hop in the nose.
Taste: Nice mellow malty palate with a building bitter sharpness that is amplified by the brews carbonation. Finishes slightly salty with a tea-like hops flavour. Really dry brew, all the way through.
Notes: An really nice bitter. True to style ... we almost forgot what a real English bitter tasted like.
