500ml bottle served in a Pint glass.

A: First of all, nice transparent bottle. Nice bottle art. Pours a dark yellow (honey like) clear color forming a big bubbled light yellow color. Low retention and some lacings left

S: Sweet honey in the nose. Metallic too. Sweet malts and some floral hops. Honey is not overwhelming. A bit of alcohol in the very end

T: Follows the nose, sweet honey and caramel malts upfront. Metallic. Flowery hops and yeasts. Mild hoppy bitter end

M: Light body and medium carbonation. Good smooth mouthfeel. Sweet upfront and mild bitter aftertaste

O: Easy drinking beer. Despite of its sweetness, a pleasant session beer

Bottle: clear bottle (that came over from England - hope there's no light strike!). Standard label. Not a brilliant package, can rely on the brewery name at least.

Appearance: amber in colour, with a decent but far too fluffy white head that disappears almost immediately.

Aroma: a combination of light aromas - honey is certainly there, but also floral and spices. I do like that the honey is not overdone.

Taste: similar to the aroma, honey with some floral and spices (cloves and grassy hops). Not brilliantly combined, but not offensive either.

Aftertaste: dissipates rather quickly, to be left with an almost tannin-style film on the palate.

Mouth feel: fairly light body and low-to-medium carbonation. Certainly goes down easily - perhaps a bit too much so.

Overall: a reasonably well made honey-based brew. If this was around AU$60-70 a case for 24x330mL, it would be worth it. But for $90 a case of 12x500mL, no mother-lovin' way.

Bottled or straight from the tap, if you're lucky, this beer reminds me of what's good about drinking beer outside on a spring day. It's clean crisp flavor is a welcomed taste from the dark & heavy beers one tends to drink in the cold weather. And because of it's taste, it goes well with the lighter spring foods but is bold enought to hold up with summer's bar-b-ques.

A- Amber body with slight hue. 2 finger body reduces quickly to a crown, lacing is average.

S- White doughy bread, faint hint of honey, a pils like musty quality.

T- Minimal. No real honey like quality. A whimper of hop bitterness in the semi dry tea like finish.

M- High carbonation, almost uncomfortable. Medium body.

D- Palate and aroma are just poor. No positives to mention really. Just dont bother!

Clear, golden amber colour with a small, smooth, creamy white head. Fair head retention.

Lightly fruity aroma with a touch of honey. Lightly sweet.

Crisp malt with a hint of sulphur. Fruity but kinda dull on the whole.

Medium-light body with moderate carbonation. Crisp and fine.

There's nothing wrong with this beer, there's just nothing right about it either. Okay.

The ale is a clear light amber, has an off-white head that leaves some lacing.

The smell is weakly of apples, pears and nuts.

The taste has some bread notes initially, lemon/lime and som concluding nettles bitterness.

Medium low carbonation, rather refreshing texture, a small body and dry finish.

I had expected more sweetness, but this was on the positive side more refreshing.

A rather old bottle has surfaced as I continue to empty out the contents of my basement. This was an early favorite of mine when I first got immersed in quality beer.

From the bottle: "Waggledance is brewed directly from the finest barley malt and, uniquely, a specially selected blend of pure honey to form a light coloured, golden ale with a smooth, rounded character. The sweetness of the honey is perfectly balanced by Fuggles and Goldings hops. Waggledance is the term used for a behavioural trait of bees. When finding a nearby nectar source they dance in a figure of eight to alert fellow bees. Settle back and enjoy this fine example of the craft of the bee and the brewmaster."

I employed a very gentle pour so as not to stir up any sediment. As a result, I only got thin tan wisps for head, but the color was a deep orangish-amber with NE-quality clarity. Nose was very sweet, almost sugary in its intensity. Mouthfeel was medium-to-full and the taste of honey was immediately evident on the tongue. That said, it was not as sweet as I had remembered/imagined. perhaps having dried over time. It was very pleasant and finished semi-sweet with the honey flavor continuing to linger well after the swallow.

Handpump pint at a bar in the international departures area of Heathrow. For better or worse, the last beer of my European vacation.

A: Clear gold body with a striking pile of chunky white foam forming a pyramid of sorts above the rim of the glass. Very lively bubble-bursting as it slowly recedes. THe glass is something short of beer-clean, as there are tons of bubbles clinging to the sides, but that's not the beer's fault - on its own merits, it looks lovely.

S: This is my first cask ale since returning from Belgium, and boy does it smell weak. Not bd, mind you, just really watery. If I really shove my nose in and inhale deeply, I get some nice sweet malt and a touch of delicate floral hops. Not bad.

T: Thin and watery, but nicely flavored with bready malt, grassy hops, and some honey sweetness on the finish. Enjoyable and refreshing, but a bit weak.

M: Thin, lightly carbonated cask body. Too thin.

O: As forgiving as I've been to this beer so far, I just can't bring myself to score it above average overall - it was just too weak and watery to earn a higher mark. I must give it credit, though, for being entirely free of noticeable flaws such as are enumerated at length in so many of its other reviews. I was shocked to see this beer's low overall scores, as I found it a thoroughly drinkable (if entirely boring) EPA. Not a great ale to go out on, but at least it wasn't Old Speckled Hen.

Bottle into Bay Brewery pint glass in low altitude Galway, Ireland. Reviewed from notes.

A: Pours a four finger head which is thin and unappealing. No cream. Light bronze colour.

Sm: Barley. Very light strength scent. It's difficult to detect individual notes with me broken nose.

T: Honey - but not in a mead kind of way. Creamy honey-tinged finish. Quite hoppy. Balanced and well built, but the style isn't clearly defined. Bittering hops in particular are so atypically handled they're almost absent.

Mf: Lick-your-lips delightful. Smooth and wet in a refreshing manner. Nice.

Dr: Expensive by Irish standards but certainly worth a go for any beer fanatic.

thin head though medium-high carbonation. light golden color.

interesting aroma. not quite honey, more like lemon and onion. not nice.

taste is slightly less offensive. not the spice of the aroma but nothing i would want to taste in another beer. a bit of malt sort of breadiness but its hidden behind this coating of something i cant quite place.

honey beer + clear bottle + shipping over a few thousand miles does not equal an enjoyable end product. well im assuming here as ive never had this beer before so have no 'good' example to compare it to. either way this is not a beer i would try again.

Appearance - 4.0
Poured a domed two fingers of off-white head over a clear, deep honey coloured body. Left some sticky lace on its descent.

Smell - 2.5
A bland, husky aroma is perked up with a little grassy hops and lemon zest. Still bland though.

Taste - 3.0
Pleasant enough, but a little boring. Pale malt and honey sweetness mostly, but balanced with a dry, grassy hoppiness.

Mouthfeel - 3.5
Very smooth drinking, light to moderate carbonation is quite fine.

Drinkability - 3.5
An easy drinking blonde ale, although a little alcoholic for sessionability.

OVERALL - 3.2
An ale for (bland) lager drinkers, easy drinking but lacking the kind of complexity I look for in an English ale.

Slight disclaimer: although this is brewed by Wells and Young, my bottle was labeled as "Wells Waggle Dance Brewed with Honey." Perhaps this is simply an English alias?

Poured a clear light amber color, small head that dissipated relatively quickly.

Smell was okay, not overpowering, kinda mellow.

Taste was mellow and sweet, much milder and sweeter than most English pales I've tried. It was nice, but lacked a richness I've had in several other English pale ales.

Mouthfeel was on the refreshing side. Again, not bad, but not great, just ok.

I'd drink it again, but not necessarily my first choice. For a beer that's easy to get in the supermarket, and relatively inexpensive (1.33 pounds), it's worth a second shot.

Poured a hazy golden colour with thin lacing. The lacing didn't stick at all, and the beer didn't seem super fresh.

Lot's of flowery aroma, with sweet honey and buscuity malts.

The taste was heavy malt, with caramel, honey and bready tones. There was very little bitterness.

It was alright for an after work drink, but I couldn't see myself drinking too many of these when there are better offerings.
