12oz bottle marked best before nov. '13
look is a very clear ruby amber. smell is dry leaves, sweet honey and pine tree sap. taste follows: very dry and bitter, an off metallic taste, with sweet maple-y malts. feel is dry, dry, dry.
solid english-style IPA, especially at the cheap price point. the misleading label (the word english is nowhere to be seen) can be attributed to the low score here.

Appearance: Excellent layer of tan foam that dissipates quickly. Rather red for an IPA.
Smell: Sweet. Almost adjunct-like. It actually smells like caramel corn.
Taste/Mouthfeel: This is not an IPA. A lot like an amber ale...quite sweet. More caramel. There's a burned popcorn flavor in the finish that I don't like. Mouthfeel is actually ok. Good crispness, despite the cloying sweetness, but the burned flavor overwhelms.
Overall: A bad IPA but an ok amber.

a: Nice head quality to this, disappeared a little quick but a light head still remains throughout. A lighter copper color with a rosé hue to it.
s: This is an ineresting aroma. I am getting fruitiness. Apples and apricot and some light banana. Some light spice to it as well, cinnamon.
t: The bitterness is paired with a caramel malt while squeezuing in fruitness...I do not enjoy much as they are not complimentary of one another. I also get a strong sour taste which leaves me not wanting more.
m: A light mouthfeel quickly clears the mouth which is nice because I am sruggling here.
o: I have enjoied most beers I have tasted from Maine - was very excited to try this beer however I feel as though they were truly trying to put to much into the bottle and the end result is an over-flavored, awkward beer.

12oz bottle poured into a pint
Pours a reddish amber with a good amount of visible carbonation. A fluffy off-white cap cap rises two fingers and falls to a thin layer. Scattered lines and dots of lace.
The nose is spicy, earthy, and grassy with a good amount of caramel. A touch floral. The malts really step forward here. Not really what I am looking for when I lean in to an English IPA.
A lot of caramel and spice fill the palate. Some floral and earthy notes come in before another wave of sweet malt. The finish is a dance between sweet biscuit malt and earthy bitterness.
Medium body with a smooth feel. A little prickly.
This is a below average example of the style. Way too much caramel and a little too spicy.

A: Pours a clear medium copper to amber in color with some moderate amounts of visible carbonation and dark amber + red highlights. The beer has a finger tall dense foamy dark beige head that slowly reduces to a thin film covering about half of the surface of the beer along with a thick ring at the edges of the glass. Moderate amounts of lacing are observed.
S: Light to moderate aromas of toasted and caramel malts with just a hint of sweetness. Lighter aromas of spicy and earthy hops.
T: Upfront there are moderate flavors of toasted malts with a touch of caramel sweetness. There are light notes of earthy and spicy hops. The hop flavors are more from bittering hops rather than contributing distinct flavors which leave a moderate amount of lingering bitterness.
M: On the lighter side of medium bodied with moderate to heavy amounts of carbonation.
O: Overall I am not the biggest fan of this beer, I was hoping for something a little more balanced and with more aromatic/flavorful hops than just the bittering ones. Not sure I would have another of these and I really enjoy almost all IPAs.

Pours dark amber with about one finger of white head. There is a modest amount of lacing about half way down the glass.
Smell is somewhat sweet cracker malts.
Taste is sweet malts with a Euro hop bitterness. A bit of leather from the hops.
Mouthfeel is spot on for the style.
Overall a pretty good English IPA. Not to be compared with an American IPA.
