served in a pub glass from a bottle.
clear dark brown with a hint of amber and decent carbonation. Pours 1/2 in head that dissipates to about 1/4 in with little lacing.
smell is balanced with malt and grainy aroma and piney hop notes.
good malt flavor and a slight hop spike emerges at the end to finish nice.
Mouth feel is medium to light body.
Not what i was expecting from a schwarzbier but a good one though.

My 33cl bottle was bought in Berlin: so it is just a 'dunkel' on the label.
Poured into an 'Augustijn' badged chalice at home on 26 Apr 2013.
Ruby coloured body, clean and clear: beige, full head.
The nose is more grainy than malty: with dark berry esters thrown in for good measure.
The taste is maltier than the aroma hints at and those grain smells don't appear in the flavours. Undertones of sweetness which don't surface fully hide behind a mild hop crispness that doesn't turn the brew bitter or overly dry.
Interesting and one of the better German brewed Dunkels I've had so far.

This Schwarzbier is a dark-red color, transparent, with a slightly tanned neck. The aroma emanates caramelly malt tones with vigor, with noble hopes in the background. The taste displays medium carbonation, the same caramel, and coffee tones. The sensation is very refreshing, and very soft, and the taste is super fast - the beer slides fast in the palate. The aftertaste is malty and shows noble hops. Definitely a good pick for the end of Winter.

Poured into a 12 oz. Pilsner glass.
Appearance: Dark brown color with a reddish hue; looks like a Dr. Pepper. Absolutly no head at all, even with an aggressive pour.
Smell: Toffee, caramel, dark chocolate and a slight sour note.
Taste: Initially, roasted Munich malts and semi-sweet caramel with a coffee-like bitter flavor mid-way. Aftertaste yields a roasted almond flavor with a mild herbal hop finish.
Mouthfeel: Light to medium body with more carbonation detected than what was visible.
Overall: I'm a little confused because this beer has the qualities of a Munich Dunkel and also characteristics of a Doppelbock, but nothing like other Schwarzbiers-style beers I've had before. So, I stopped trying to analyze what style of beer it was and just enjoyed it. It's one of those beers you can sip slowly and savor, or throw back several in one sitting.
Whatever style it is, it's another awesome brew from Einbecker.

Poured into a pint glass from the terrible green bottle.
Please, stop doing this breweries. Green bottles will become associated with skunked shit, and this will only tell people in ever growing numbers that your beer is crap. This beer had a chance, but you ruined it with this.
Smelled of skunk, some caramel, some roasted notes, coffee, biscuit.
The taste followed with a little less skunk, nice roasted barley, and a creamy mouthfeel.
Einbecker, I won't buy another one of your beers until I see it in a brown bottle.

Bottle poured into Pokal
Like a prior reviewer had said, this is more of a bock than a schwarzbier.
Three finger gray head, dark amber body, almost no carbonation
Taste: chocolate, caramel, with perhaps one of the noble hops at the finish?
Smell: chocolate and caramel
Mouthfeel: moderate, not too thick.
Overall, not a bad beer, but not a brilliant one. This is kind of a boring beer to me, perhaps if I had a fresher bottle I'd like it.
I don't think I'll seek this out again.

From: John's Grocery, Iowa City, IA
Date: Code Number: L1048058L00
Glass: Ayinger willi glass
Einbecker's schwarzbier is a modestly flavored, easy-drinking dark beer with light roast and toffee flavors. A definitely sessionable beer, but one I would not go to too much trouble to look for one when others that are tastier are more readily available.
Pours a 1.5cm head of very light tan, composed of large to medium-sized bubbles that recedes to a thick ring around the glass, with a few small islands of wispy foam. Lacing along the sides of the glass is fairly minimal, a few dots and squiggles. Body is a dark brown color with reddish highlights, light bringing out a dark amber hue to the beer. Carbonation is visible, but sluggish.
Aroma is of lightly roasted malt with a bit of toffee. The scent composition is fairly minimal, decent, but not particularly strong or nuanced.
Overall flavor profile of light roasted malt and toffee, sweeter rather than roastier, and generally subtle and mild. Tasting opens with malt sweetness and lightly roasted malt favors, leading into a mid-palate of lightly roasted malt with toffee and slight European hop bitterness. Back of palate sees an increase in roasted malt flavor and acridity, with a bit of chocolate and toffee as well. Lingering aftertaste of caramel malt sweetness with some roasted malt and toffee flavor.
Beer is medium bodied with low to medium-low levels of carbonation. Resulting mouthfeel is smooth, not creamy or fizzy. Closes out dry, with little stickiness across the palate.

Pours a slightly murky dark brown with a 1/2 inch foamy khaki head that settles to a film on top of the beer. Thin foamy streaks of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of roasted/toasted malt and some slight caramel aromas. Taste is much the same but slightly watery. There is a very mild roasty bitterness on the palate after each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp and medium bodied mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer with a nice smell but the flavors are pretty thin in my opinion.

A: Pours a clear medium brown in color. The beer has a half finger tall creamy beige head that reduces to a thin film covering about half of the surface of the beer and a thicker ring at the edges of the glass. Minimal lacing is observed.
S: There is a sweetness to the smell of this beer with dark fruits and caramel/toffee dominating.
T: Light to moderate flavors of dark fruit sweetness in the malts, some lightly burnt malts, and just a hint of caramel. Just a touch of bitterness in the finish.
M: Medium bodied with light to moderate amounts of carbonation. Smooth.
O: This beer is easy to drink and enjoyable. With the lower ABV and not too intense flavor, this beer is easily sessionable and definitely one that I would try again.
