Has dating tabs, but they are not notched... so I have no idea if I am meeting the end-date requirements... But there is a slight notch next to the “L” on the side, if that means anything to anyone... (not me!)
Chestnut and clear. Eggshell colored froth shot down quickly leaving only a dusting and tons of lacing. No aroma really, just some maltiness floating up... just very clean. Great feel, smooth and silky, the carbonation is barely noticeable but there. It just glides around your mouth. Medium bodied. Roasted malt and caramelly sweetness. Nice dark toastyness, leaves a lot of flavor on your tongue. Good flavor and feel, very drinkable.

A - Very sticky lacing on this covers the entire glass though out with a opaque colored head. Beer itself is a mildly hazy bright amber brown.

S - Vibrant toasted malts, bready dough, and caramel malts. Some sour apple too but it's very faint.

T - Starts off sweet with toasted bread and dough covered in caramel. Mid palate the hops become slightly noticeable with an herbal sort of English twang and the finish is only mildly dry with fruity yeasts. Great bock.

M - Drinks with a medium body slightly chewy with a creamy mouth feel.

Overall quite a treat for a discounted 2 dollar purchase. In fact I think I like it more than the winter bock since the ABV is more session able.

Einbecker's Ur-Bock Dunkel is one of the better bocks I have been able to try, full of robust caramel and toasted bread flavors, but also well-balanced by an intriguing selection of European hops that add bittering, peppery, and herbal flavor to the beer. While the beer's appearance and mouthfeel were about average, its flavor was excellent and the aroma was quite enjoyable, too. Out of the bottle, this was a very nice offering, a bock I would pick up again. Fresh from the brewery's taps, I imagine this to be excellent.

Pours a 2cm head of off-white to beige foam, which is made up of an assortment of small, medium, and large-size bubbles, creating a sudsy dishwater-like appearance. Retention is about average, lasting a minute and a half, before settling to a thin film atop the body of the beer. The lacing that is left is minimal, a few small lines and dots alongside the perimeter of the glass. Beer's body is a dark copper color, light bringing out brighter, reddish-orange copper hues. Carbonation is visible through the transparent body, though it is fairly minimal.

Nose is of pleasant toasted malts, giving this a caramel sweetness and toasted bread aroma, with a bit of European hop bitterness, pepperiness, and herbal-ness. Very pleasant, could be a bit stronger, but subdued works as well.

Tasting opens with caramel-like malt sweetness, fairly deep and intense. Mid-palate finds continued caramel-like sweetness, but adds in a bit of complexity with toasted bread flavors and noticeable hop bitterness and dried herbal flavors, acting as an interesting counterweight to the prominent malt characters. Back of palate picks up caramel and bread flavors that are well-balanced by European hop bitterness, spiciness, and dried herb components. The beer at this point has come from near total sweetness to half sweetness and half bitterness. Lingering aftertaste of bittering European hops atop much subdued caramel and toasted malt sweetness. Very excellent taste with notable transitions and flavors.

Beer is medium-bodied with low levels of carbonation, leading this to have a smooth, though slightly stagnant mouthfeel. Some more carbonation would not be problematic, and this beer's weight could certainly handle it. Closes quite dry, with surprisingly little stickiness across the palate.

A: The beer is slightly hazy dark amber in color and has a light amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a thin beige head that consistently left a thin layer of bubbles covering the surface.
S: Aromas of bready malts, caramel malts and raisins are present in the nose.
T: The taste is similar to the smell and is quite malty with a light amount of bitterness and subtle hints of sweetness.
M: It feels medium- to full-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation along with a bit of warming from the alcohol.
O: This is beer is a good representation of the style and is also quite easy to drink compared to other bocks.

A: A medium copper with exceptional clarity and a persistent off-white head.

S: This has a moderate malty aroma with a crusty bread, melanoidins and a light toasted noted. There are no hops present nor diacetyl, just a clean lager fermentation.

T: The flavor is right to style with a rich, complex malt flavors of crusty bread and toast with a light caramel note. There is just enough hop bitterness to balance the malt flavors but it still leans towards the sweet side with a malt sweetness that continues into the finish. It's still a well attenuated beer. No hops.

M: Medium-full bodied with a moderatly low carbonation and just a touch of warming.

O: This beer is a malt forward beer with a little sweetness but an overall good balance.

Pours a murky dark orange with a 1 inch foamy tan head that settles to a thin film on top of the beer. Foamy swaths of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, caramel, toffee, and some slight soy sauce notes. Taste is of toasted malt and some burnt caramel and toffee flavors. There is a slight alcohol kick with each sip. There is a mild amount of bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp and medium bodied mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer with a better taste than smell in my opinion.

Einbecker Ur-Bock Dunkel has a thin-to-medium, off-white head and a somewhat cloudy, amber appearance, with a good amount of thick lacing and some streaming, tiny bubbles. The aroma is of musty, sweet, slightly-turned fruit (think of green apples), and the taste is similar, but with an added hop bitterness at the end of the sip and in the undertaste. Also, one picks up a pretty strong alcohol feel, which evokes brandywine. The mouthfeel is light to medium, and Einbecker Ur-Bock Dunkel finishes semi-dry, ragged, and fairly head banging. Overall, I think this was probably a bottle that was a few years old, but, nonetheless, it is good.
