Attractive, clear, blonde. Capped with a puffy, stable crest of white foam. Insipid aroma – nothing but light malts, and not much of them. Luckily, it tastes far better than it smells. Clean and dry, smooth and crisp – you name any of the big-brand lager cliches, this one nails them all, but without any off-flavors and with considerably more character. Hops provide a great snappy bitterness and a touch of peppery/citric flavor to round out a beer that mostly just tastes of pure fermented grain – like good bread, or a really good pilsner. It has a "can't put it down" kind of quaffability, and at just over 4%, this is a perfect session beer. Get it nice and cold and it could even rival continental lagers for pure refreshment. A very pleasant surprise – I'd definitely buy this one again.

Hand-pulled pint in my local Wetherspoons on 30 Nov 2012.

Pale gold and clear: almost lagerlike in appearance.

Citrusy notes hit your nose and throat: just as the bottle version does. Grapefruit and lemon flavours throughout, if it had been thicker in the body you could have cleaned the kitchen with it!

Too citrusy for me on the day: this is a summer drink, not a cold dark November evening brew.

Straw coloured clear body mixture of big, medium, tiny and microscopic bubbles creates a spotty but quite inviting pure white head.

Big aromas hops are full on along with pink grapefruit and marzipan.

The tastes are also mighty full on citrus, lemon and grapefruit finishing on an incredibly bitter finish, beyond peppery and barely managable, I guess it separates the men from the brewdog boys lmao.

Lightmothfeel and mid carbonation is not just ideal but utterly necessary due to the ultra bitter taste.

Almost like drinking neat agustora bitters, distintive and powerful but very reasonably priced, easily found and a must try.

Handpump half-pint at the Rake.

A: Clear gold body with a thin but creamy white head that shows terrific staying power and leaves plenty of thick lace. Quite nice.

S: Husky, musty grain, and earthy hops. A little harsh, and not that interesting.

T: Opens with mild biscuity malt and closes with bitter, herbal/earthy hops. Not great.

M: Soft light body, low carbonation.

O: This one was a bit of a disappointment, as I expected something a bit more exciting from the craft-oriented Rake. This one was just a boring, uninspired ale that I have no interest in trying again. Oh, well.

Tasted recently at a local JDW pub, John Russell Fox, in Andover; served by a non-sparkler handpull. Note: this is allegedly a "Wheat Ale".

A: light haze follows the dark amber hue, topped with a well lasting off-white froth leaving lacing behind.
S: lovely pale malts are coupled with rea...lly juicy orangey Goldings hops and a light peach/floral scent of other hops, with a light wheat-ish hint hiding in the background. Overall, refreshing, balanced, hoppy - a "Wheat-ish Bitter".
T: more like a lighter-bodied Bitter, the light entry of juicy citric fruits and high-quality palest malts & wheat malts gradually yields plentiful biscuity aroma, lingering well, backed by a lightly nutty aftertaste. The finish is bitter, fruity-hoppy, going a bit dry in the very end. More-ish and tangy!
M&D: fresh and softly carbonated, light-bodied, this is a more-ish fruity Bitter with a fine twist from the wheat malts (not much). When it's fresh (as in this case/cask), this is a truly irresistible session ale.

On cask

Pours with a cloudy straw body, very slight head, little retention

Smell, aromas of fruit, slight hint of citrus (perhaps from the cascade hops)

Taste, dry and fruity, again a slight hint of lemon or lime, all round a fruity and drinkable ale

Nice and refreshing beer
