Served from tap into Trappe Door tulip. Poured ruby red with a two finger off-white with slight pink hue head that subsided to one finger very slowly. Maintained nice lacing throughout the glass. The aroma was comprised of sweet malt, earth, sugar, cherries, fruit, and subtle tart. The flavor was of sweet malt, cream, earth, strawberries, cherries, and subtle tart. It had a light feel on the palate with very high carbonation. Overall this was a fairly decent brew. Unfortunately nothing really jumped out at me on this one. Tons of sweetness and fruit going on, but that was about it. Kind of seemed like this was the only thing going on with it unless you investigated further. Worth your time trying at least once, but that is about it.

Served on tap in a 10 oz chalice glass

Appearance – Served a ruby red color with a one finger off white head. The head fades over a moderate amount of time to give a decent level of lacing.

Smell – The aroma is on the lighter side, but is sweet. It is mainly of a cherry nature but also contained some raspberry aroma as well. With the fruit aromas, there were some lighter notes of a yeasty smell. Overall the aroma was light but rather nice.

Taste – The taste started out with a big burst of sweet cherry. As the taste advances some very light yeasty flavors as well as a light herbal flavor come to the tongue. While this occurs, the taste sours up a little bit. In the end, while still of sweet cherry, the taste has a lighter tart flavor as well.

Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is very light with a carbonation level that is on the slightly higher side. Both are fantastic for the sweet and sour flavors and makes for a very drinkable brew.

Overall – A nice lambic. Very drinkable and quite tasty. It is more on the sweet side then on the sour side making it more refreshing and faster drinking. Good for a go if you get a chance.

Poured a vivid cherry red with a thin slick of head. Sweet cherry aroma with hints of tartness and malt.

Moderate-to-highish carbonation and full mouthfeel. Sweet cherry up front with hints of caramel and some mild tartness on the finish.

A little sweet and one-dimensional, but tasty and easy-drinking.

On-tap at Max's Belgian Beer Fest

This kriek came out with a red pour and a finger of white head. Very nice retention and lacing. It smelled like cherry juice. Not much else, just cherries and sweetness. The taste is so sweet, no sour or funk at all. Basically tastes like a sweet cherry soda with less carbonation. I enjoy it, but it isn't great. I will say that this is at least pretty damn drinkable. I just wish this had some funk, too sweet and average.

On tap at The Surly Goat in West Hollywood, CA.

Pours a clear cranberry juice color with a reddish-white head that settles to a film on top of the beer. A small curtain of lace forms on the glass on the drink down. Smell is of cherry juice and cherries with a slightly tart quality. Taste is also of cherries and cherry juice with only a mildly tart quality. This beer has a pretty good level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer but nothing too fantastic.

On tap at Chez Leon.

A-Ruby red color, clear. A finger of rocky white head.

S-Sweet cherries dominate.

T-This one is skewed towards being sweet rather than sour. Cherries are evident and pleasant.

M-Nice body-not as thin as some lambics. Quick dry finish.

D-Very high.

O-This is a drinkable lambic with strong cherry flavor which skews towards being more sweet than sour but not overly sweet to the point of tasting artificial.

Single finger head on a reddish brown body. Tons if lacing, light aroma which is as expected mostly fruity and raspberry like. This is an excellent lambic with a nice raspberry and medicinal cherry taste up front and brown sugar finish with moderate to high carbinaion and light body. Overall very drinkable and one of the better lambic beers out there.

A - Poured with one finger of white foam on a clear, amber colored body. The head fades slowly and leaves thick lace.

S - Sour malty aroma with some medicinal cherry.

T - A sweet, candy like cherry character up front with some malty caramel in the middle. Finishes with caramel, tart fruit, and dark sugar.

M - Medium body, moderate carbonation, and a dry finish.

D - A very strong cherry presence with enough sweet and sour character to be eminently drinkable.

The bar I had this at just listed it as "Red" and the keg said "Kriek Original", so I hope this is in the right listing.

Served in tulip. Poured a nice red color with a half inch of of off-white head that moderately low retention and very good lacing.

The aroma was very nice, good fruit scents upfront and a bit of grain and yeast in the background. the cherry scent was just a touch on the sweet side however. On the tongue the sweet cherry hits first, followed by just a bit of tart sourness. the beer had a clean, dry finish.

The body was far too thin for my preferences, but otherwise was smooth and easy to drink. Overall, a very nice beer that had a good, even balance of sweet and tart. Certainly worth your time when you have a chance.

12 ounce pour in a footed goblet. Bright red and brilliantly clear, topped with a slim cap that had a pinkish tint. Delicate concentric rings of drippy lacing. An ever present, mottled veil of skim sits on the surface.

Lightly sweet cherry aroma, initial wafts of damp dishrag must and minerals. Something vaguely medicinal about the cherry, but nothing hinting at a traditional lambic so far.

Cherry tartness hits first, then the club soda spritzer carbonation fizzes you into submission. Towards the end of the glass the carb settles down, but initially it tastes like a cherry soda or wine cooler. The cherry taste is tart however, like natural juice and not overtly artificial. Feel is a bit hollow and it tastes somewhat one dimensional, but it's better than expected.

"Matured in oak casks for several months" says the promo material... why even bother? Sort of a joke compared to traditional lambic producers aging for years to achieve the depth and complexity sorely missing here.

A: Poured a dark cherry red color with good carbonation leaving a nice white cap and bubbles

S: Immediate difference between this and others of the style is the dark cherry presence versus the young, red cherries. Wood, some Earthy notes to it as well.

T: Starts out with a nice blend of dark cherries with a subtle hint of young red cherries but dark cherries being dominant, a bit sweeter, wood, tartness.

M: Felt fuller than many for the style, medium body, well carbonated a bit sweeter yet still dry with lots dark cherry flavor

o: Good

Draft to taster

App- A good amount of cherry red with a one finger medium receding fizzy head. A subtle amount of cling and lace.

Smell- Very thin aromatics. Watery and cherry. Falls far below what the standard for a cherry lambic should be.

Taste- A very prickly cherry flavor with a bit of booze mixed in. Its a bit better than Lindemans because its not as thick and syrupy but still not the best lambic.

Mouth- For some reason I liked the way this felt. They got this right with a thin body and a high carbonation. Great cherry residual flavors.

Drink- Overall this one is about on par with other mass produced intro lambics in the US. The color and feel are the best thing about this one. Probably wont come back to it.

Pours a clean reddish pink to amber color with a light pink head. In the aroma, mellow dark cherry. In the taste, a nice bitter to sweet dark cherry and not too much. A small bite and medium to lighter bodied mouthfeel, with a small dry cherry in the aftertaste. It kind of reminded me of Cherokee Red.

I had this on tap at De Muze in Antwerpen. It's a dark red carbonated candy in a glass. I really wanted to like this - I expected it to be more complex... To me, this is not much better than the very commercially available Lindeman's. It tastes artificial. This is a beer for the non-beer drinker at your party. Well, I will give fruit lambics another try with the near 10-year-old kriek I recently acquired.

On tap at the Coddingtown Whole Foods Tap Room is Santa Rosa.

A: Very red. Looks like raspberries syrup in sparkling water. Decent head. More lacing that I expected.

S: Cough syrup is the first thing that came to mind. After the initial shock, I started to be able to smell the raspberry and all the other fruits that were in this.

T: Cough syrup again. Sweet. Very sweet. I get passed the initial shock and finally start to appreciate it. Good fruit flavors. The only problem is, this almost tastes like the fake fruit syrups that you would get in an Italian soda.

M: Crisp. Light. Very carbonated.

O: Not for me. I can appreciate it for what it was, but not for me.

S- Wow, wayy too sweet for me. i have a huge sweet tooth and this is too much for me.

On tap at Washington Commons. Happy birthday, Max!

Red beer, good head, nearly clear. Sexy appearance. Yum. But then I smelled it. Ludens cherry cough drops. This isn't beer. This is the drug store. Ouch. Nostrils flare, another sniff, whoof, more medicine. Such a shame. The taste is still consistent, with a terrible aftertaste, persistent softness ad sweetness, but besides tart, there's nothing to the taste until the medicinal end.

Time to pack the girlfriend for the trip home to Atlanta. She liked this beer, but I didn't love it. Still love the style though.

On tap at A La Mort Subite. Brussels, Belgium. Notes from April 2011.

A: Bright red color with a thin pink head of foam.

S: Intense cherry flavor, but not too sugary sweet. What sweetness that is present in the kriek is balanced well by the mild acidity.

T: Almost tastes like a cherry wine cooler, but not in a bad way. A great deal of cherry flavor with sweetness and light acidity.

M: Medium body with heavy carbonation.

O: Definitely a guilty pleasure beer that I'd swipe from my wife when she's not looking.

On-tap at Churchill's, served in a tulip.

Pours blood red with a little tinge of pink. One finger bright white head. Lacing and retention are good.

Smells like Maraschino cherries mixed with table sugar. This seems like it should be mixed with ice cream...

Tastes mostly like one of those fruity vodka drinks your girlfriend might order at a bar. Super syrupy and sugary. Not a touch of alcohol can be tasted here. It does taste like cherries, so there's that. I can feel a sugar rush hitting me...

Creamy mouthfeel with stinging high carbonation.

This beer is too sweet and sugary. Consider drinking it if you're reaching for a Smirnoff Ice. You just got iced, bro.

A: The beer pours a nice bright red color with a thin layer of pinkish head.

S: Intense cherry aroma with a slight sugary note to it. There is a little bit of acidity to it which does help to balance out the sweetness.

T: The best way to describe the taste of this beer is cherry soda. Mildly acidic with tons of cherry flavor and a substantial sweetness. But, the beer is not overly sugary or cloying.

M: Medium in body with a lively carbonation.

O: Certainly a guilty pleasure. Although it's not necessarily traditional, it's still enjoyable in small servings.

First had: on tap at Pinocchio's, Media, PA

Poured clear, bright red, with a foamy white head. Obvious aroma of cherries, with not much else coming through. Heavy cherry taste, more sweet than sour, which is sometimes good. Comes off a little medicine-y than authentic fresh cherries, but still very nice. It is a kriek after all. Light and sweet mouthfeel, and quite drinkable if your in the mood for a good cherry beer.

This was my second beer I had with dinner at Belgo Centraal in London. It came looking like a rose wine, but with lots of champagne like bubbles and a frothy 1/2" of pinkish white head. There was a large sour cherry nose with hints of mild toasted grain.

The taste was dominated by sweet and sour cherries, with a tingling effervescence much like champagne. A very drinkable beer and a great way to finish off a really good pot of mussels!

The beer arrived clear ruby with an almost pink, white head which lasted well to coat the glass.

The aroma was lightly tart with a sour bing cherry presence which was quite strong and in the forefront. Also present was a light bit of alcohol.

The flavor only had a lightly tart character with cherries and some wheat.

The finish was lightly tart with an indication of cherries into the aftertaste. The body was medium light with a moderate carbonation. The beer was ok, but nothing too special.
