From the bottle, it pours a darker amber with a modest head. Interestingly, the head stays a long time! Lots of malt in the nose...and mouth... This is a hugely malty German bock!

A: Lovely copper color under a massive beige head. Slow dissipation leaves nice lacings.
S: Dark dried fruits galore, very sweet and malty. Some faint bitter hops in the back as well as some meaty (smoked-ham-like) notes are well hidden. Nettles.
T: Licorice, some coffee and lots of dark dried fruits. Sweet malt, almost like Pumpernickel. A little bitterhops.
M: Aftertaste lingers, with espresso-like bitterness. Body is syrupy full and carbonation is held back.
O: A nice Doppelbock with very interesting licorice- and coffee-notes.

Rich notes of rum, caramel, and plums. Fizzy, dark cream colored head fades quickly to nothing. Glowing mahoganny colored beer with a ruby hue (in my fat glass stein). The flavor is totaly malt dominated without being overly sweet. Flavors of rum and toffee along with a big dose of chocolate and possibly even a marshmallow or two. As far as the alcohol goes I can feel it on my gums each time I take a sip, but mixed with the rest of the flavors it's complementary. I really wasn't expecting much. I had one of these a few months ago and was completely underwhelmed, but this bottle is just amazing. Maybe it's because I haven't had a beer with intense flavor in a while, but this beer is still really good.
