Pours a dark brown/black with a thin head that fades quickly. Aroma is robust with dark coffee and sweet sorghum molasses.

Taste is as full as the aroma. Lots of bittersweet dark coffee, some smokey molasses and a lingering charcoal flavor. Some caramel cola syrup, roast and dark chocolate in the middle. No alcohol heat but the finish is dry, bitter coffee.

Mouthfeel is medium, maybe a little light for the style but the tremendous flavor keeps it a sipper. Smooth and satiny, drinkability is very high with some heavy legs in the swirl. I like this one, it was gone before I noticed.

August 2012 bottle, tasted April 2013

A: Very dark brown, almost black, with a two fingered tan head that quickly recedes.

S: Roasted malts, chocolate with hints of vanilla. There's also some hints of alcohol.

T: Initially it's strong with chocolate and caramel, but that ends pretty quickly and you get very strong roasted malt flavors with just a hint of the prior sweetness remaining.

M: Nice carbonation, it feels very light for being a stout.

O: Overall I like it quite a bit. If the finish wasn't quite so roasty, I'd like it even more, but it's a very good beer that I'll certainly look for when the winter comes around.
