according to their web-site this is a wet hopped beer.

A - copper in color with some golden hues through out the beer. Nice frothy head that sticks around and laces the sides of the glass nicely.

S - the aroma is heavenly with lots of fresh hop smell, but not overwhelming still some nice balancing going on there. Easy to pick out the cascade hops but they don't seem to have an enormous amount of citrusy punch to them which I like a lot.

T - the taste is so well balanced that its hard to really discern one attribute, but there are definitely hops there which seem to be the main attraction, as it should be, but not mouth puckering. an awesome east coast pale ale that rivals many other top notch beers in the same style, imo.

M - body is medium with a nice touch of carbonation and a really nice resinous after taste that coats the tongue and just begs to be washed away with another quaff.

D - The one thing that bums me out is the fact that this has to be a limited seasonal brew, but it just wouldn't work any other way. I'm need to get back to Ithaca and fill my growler up before its all gone, which probably won't take long.

Draft at The Pour House in Westmont, NJ.

Pours a slightly hazy golden straw color with a one finger frothy white head that slowly settles into a lasting ring.  Streaks of soapy lace let behind.

Floral hop aroma with subtle earthy pine needle countered by sweet citrus and pale malt.  Hints of grass, grapefruit and lemon peel along with bready yeast notes.  Some light fruit and biscuit as well.

Medium bodied with a crisp hop bite up frot that lingers over the citrus fruit and pale malt backbone into a dry finish. Spicy, resinous hop bitterness with pine needle and grassy flavors counters by lemon peel, pineapple and grapefruit.  Decent malt backbone adding balance without taking away from the hops.  Hints of caramel, bread, biscuit, toffee and light fruit.  Well balanced, flavorful and very easy to drink.

Pale yellow in color with just the slightest haze. Poured with a short soapy white foam that quickly disappeared. Light, fresh citrus hop aroma upfront followed by resinous pine hops and a light malt sweetness beneath. Creamy smooth feel with subdued carbonation. Citus hop bite up front with a pine hop bitterness below from beginning to end. Hop character pretty much overwhelms any maltiness. Finishes cleanly with a lingering pine hop aftertaste.

On tap at Cole's last night.Poured a somewhat hazed lighter copper color with well defined 1/2 finger white head atop.Lightly toasted doughy aromas with faint grassy hops in the nose, the cascades are a little subdued.I loved the fresh malty flavors of the beer, somewhat grainy and dough-like with mild sweetness, the cascades came into play in the finish lending some grassy-pine notes. It tasted as fresh as all get out, although Iam a hophead it was the malt flavors that made me really like this beer.

A one-inch, rocky, white head floats over a clear, golden wheat beer with chill haze, leaving sparse lacing.

The hops deliver pine resin aromas. Also to be found are dried hay, coriander, and orange.

This one has a bitter bite up front with grains in the background. There is some citrus, primarily lemon. Apricot and green tea can be found in a lingering finish that has a sharp bite.

This Harvest Ale is dry with a medium body and modest carbonation. Astringency and alcohol are about as expected.

While perhaps a bit sharp, this is still a fine drinking beer from a Roosterfish pint glass. I am not sure what makes this a “harvest” beer, but it suited me well after work on a cool day.

Growler purchased at DeCicco's in Ardsley NY.

Appearance: Pours a transparent oily wheat to pale golden with a 2 finger crown that displays decent retention and good lace.

Smell: Dank hops, wheat, and biscuit malt in harmony but the hops are not as pungent as the sample I had in Newburgh a while ago.

Taste: Same as the nose with a decent amount of bite. I'd give it a 4.2 if I could so I'm rounding down a bit.

Mouthfeel: Thin side of medium bodied with good carbonation.

Drinkability: Very good.

Ithaca Outdoor Harvest Ale pours a dark golden color with a finger and a half of white head. Both retention and lacing are fair.

Although backed up by a crisp malt backbone, the aroma is mostly dominated by the hops. Some pine, and tons of grass and earthy aromas from the fresh hops.

The flavor is similar to the aroma, but I find it a little surprising how bitter it is. The malt once again hangs back, adding a bit of balance and sweetness. The hops are in the forefront, bringing lots of earthy and grassy flavors, but also hints of citrus and pine. The bitterness is tongue-lashing, a lot more potent than the edge that most fresh hop beers have. There is also just a touch of heat from alcohol in the finish, which might enhance my impression that the bitterness is pretty harsh.

The mouthfeel is oily and bitter-feeling, which as far as I'm concerned is pretty good.

I had a growler of this last year and liked it enough to get some more this year. I am a sucker for fresh hop beers though. I'd say only go for this one if you're in the mood for fresh hops paired with big bitterness.

On tap at the blue dog tavern.

A- comes my way with a good two fingers of bright white semi dense head that settles rather quickly to a small cap and some nice rings of lace. Slightly hazy golden yellow in color and a sweet glow.

S- crisp citrus and piney hops with a light honey and floral touch. Hints of spice.

T- clean fresh hops coming off with some citrus fruits and a bit of pine sap. Hints of spicy herbals and sweet malts with some honey and light colored bread. Nice clean hoppy linger.

M- on the lesser side medium in body and a big bright carb that tingles the tongue. Semi dry finish.

D- this is one quafable brew here light enough to have a few but full on flavor. This would be able to give miller 6:09:55 PM a run for its money with some of their customers.

Pours a clear toasted straw color with a small but dense white head that left a nice ring and some sticky lacing on the glass. The aroma is not super strong; it has a bready characteristic with some light grapefruit hops. Nice aroma just not that strong. The taste has more of a hop presense; there is some grapefruit with a touch of resin. This is paired with a bready malty that has some light fruity notes and honey. The feel is moderate with enough carbonation to give it an edge; finishes bitter. For a "harvest" or "wet" hop ale, this is quite tame. I expected to get a blast of fresh buddy hops but the flavor was subdued which brought out the bitter aspect of the hop, though it is really not that bitter. Much better "harvest" APA's out there.

Couple tugs off a growler.

A: Light golden color with a finger of white head.

S: The nose was piney with sticky fresh hops. It just had a touch of citrus. This one was more earthy and grassy than a huge hop bomb. The malt was crisp and cut through.

T: The taste followed right in line with the nose. The hops really came through nicely but again it was more earthy and piney. A touch of citrus. Finished a little on the bitter side.

M: Fairly light in body. Well carbonated.

D: This was good but it is not something that I would seek out. That being said I would never turn this down fresh either.

Got it on tap at Blue Tusk in Syracuse, served in a mug.

A: Body is slightly hazy, light-honey in color. A 1-finger foamy white head settles on top, leaves behind good splotchy lace.

S: Smells like fresh hops: citrusy, with a touch of pine. Nose gets better as it warms (this is the 2nd consecutive beer I've had at Blue Tusk that I believe was served too cold).

T: Fresh, wet hops again - juicy and resiny citrus over a base of light, bready malt. Sweet oranges come to mind at times. Finishes with a touch of spice.

M: Resiny in feel, medium bodied.

D: Excellent if you like this sort of beer -- i.e., a fresh hop ale. I do, so I scored it accordingly.

64oz swingtop growler. filled nov 22/09 at consumers in buffalo, sampled nov 25th.

pours crystal clear deep yellow with a huge fluffy off-white head. the head drops very slowly and leaves a thick and intricate pattern of lace as it falls.

aroma is good. light alcohol. whole wheat bread and biscuit. bit of cracker. big hoppy nose. floral and slightly grassy. earthy. light orange, grapefruit, and piney notes in the background. touch of caramel.

taste is nice. a touch of caramel sweetness. bit of honey. grassy and slightly floral hops. earthy. light alcohol. medium-low bitterness level. whole wheat bread. bit of biscuit and cracker.

mouthfeel is good. light bodied. medium carbonation level.

drinkability is great. nice balance. fairly straightforward. tasty and enjoyable. i'd have liked a little more hop presence, even if it's just an APA and not an IPA, but enjoyed it none the less.
