On tap at Sapsucker's, Huntington, NY. From notes 11/28/2012.
a: Pours a hazy gold color, almost two fingers of foam, lace all the way down as I slowly sip this heavenly elixir...
s: bright, lively, lemon-orange aroma
t: hop bitterness up front, orange peel, lemon, slight grain
m: medium mouthfeel, dry finish, lingering bitterness
o: excellent beer, interesting and complex. This is miles better than the bottle I tried a few months ago - can't remember the batch number - but which I suspect was a bit dated and mistreated by the retailer. This is worth seeking out if you are a fan of witbiers and grand crus. Not sure why IBC is releasing it so late in the year; this would be the perfect beer to crack open at dinner as another perfect summer day slips into memory. I've picked up and cellared two bottles of this current batch (#E!043) but I make no guarantees that they will be left untouched all winter!
Postscript 12/8/2012: Back at Sapsuckers once again, I'm happy to note that the IWG is still on tap and as tasty as 10 days ago.

On tap. Pours a translucent amber color with a half inch of head. Good amount of lacing. Aromas of bread, orange peel, lemon, and bitterness. Hard to pick up on too much since the smell is pretty faint. Taste is of orange peel, lemon, apple, bread and some hop bitterness. Bitter orange and lemon peel finish. Medium bodied with a nice mouthfeel. Good alcohol presence. This is a style I'm luke warm on, but this is a solid Wheat. Overall, worth having again for certain.

On-tap at Barcade in Williamsburg. Having tried my first Ithaca beer (Flower Power) earlier in the week, and being amazingly impressed by it, I was keen to try others.
Pours a hazed golden colour, bright and lively. Head is fine and white although small. Chaotic, but rather refined lacing. Fine light body. Looks really good.
Nose is crisp, but round. Some sharp, leafy aromas, a little citrus and a touch of pepper. Although the yeast profile is subtle, I do get a whiff of some of those round Belgian esters that suggest a traditional witbier yeast might have been used. Not bad.
Taste is smooth, but laced with pepper and phenols. Vanilla wafer characters come through, with a good dollop of earthy bitterness. Hint of booze and astringency. Some faint esters of coconut and a hint of wood. Deel is smooth, but light. Not bad.
Pretty decent all up. Smooth and drinkable, but with plenty of character. Not on par with the awesomeness of Flower Power, but another very solid brew from Ithaca.

A - The body was a darker golden with some cloudiness to it...the head was white and bubbly and fell to a spotty cap...there was some retention in the form of a bubbly ring...decent lacing was left
S - Lemon, yeast, Belgian spices...and when you inhale deep enough you can pick up some hops and a bit of sour funkiness
T - The beer starts off with some pale wheat malts...it's grainy up front and transitions into the yeast strain...with this yeast strain you can pick up some Belgian spice undertones...right in the middle is lemon rind and a slight sourness...there is a surprising piney hop finish
M - Medium bodied...moderate carbonation...the hops linger along with big notes of lemon rind
O - I was able to try this at Al's but I'm confused on the style...the only American part I found in this beer was the bright citrus tones and piney hops...there's a lot of Belgian yeast and spices along with the funk...but I found this to be rather enjoyable when first served...the Belgian notes came out as the beer warmed

Had at Capones on Draft - as well as picked up two 25.4% bottles for myself and a friend.
This brew was poured into a snifter. It poured a very hazy, golden color. It poured with a nice 1 inch creamy white head that has an amazing retention. It probably lasted for almost 5-7 minutes as I let the brew sit for a bit. It also had some great lacing that was a solid wall that coated the sides of the glass as I consumed the brew.
The aroma on this brew is very complex. It has a bit of a sour/tart smell. Which originally made me think this was a sour, until I read more into the brew. There is a bit of orangy/apricot kind of hops that I am detecting as well. I am also detecting a bit of belgian yeast and spices. It smells amazing. It also has bit of a earth note as well, not to much, just a touch.
This brew has a great flavor. It has a nice bunch of citrus flavors that are the front of the brew, but its actually balanced out with a b it of a sour now is very present. Its something different. It's listed on the beer menu as a sour, but BA list as a American Pale Wheat Ale. The spices give it a little nip as the alcohol ever so slightly warm you. It actually leaves you wanting more.
Its a great mouthful, it has a nice smooth coating feeling as you sip this brew. Its sweet and sour, giving a nice palate changing experience. I haven't had many brews of this style, but this one is pretty good. It has a nice carbonation level that helps the brew as well. It really does leave you wanting more, very much as the label states.
This is my second brew by Ithaca, the first being Flower Power IPA. This is a great brew. It was recommended by a friend that heard about the brew. It didn't dissapoint. Its a nice solid brew that has a flavor that have to say I have never had. I would have to say that this brew should be a standard for the style. The brew isn't too overpowering either, so it could be easily consumed by anyone that enjoys the style. Ithaca rocked the house with this brew. Im glad I had a chance to have it on tap, but very excited to have the bottle as well.

There are some verbose reviews of this beer, beer is amber with a nice thick head, carbonation is high and there is a lot of lacing on the glass.
Beer smells wheaty and spicy with some fruits and mild hop character.
Beer is thin in body and highly carbonated. Its mildly sweet up front but nice on the finish. Not dry at all. This is how you make an American wheat ale, everyone pay attention. Drinkability high, mild fruit flavors in the midpalate, mild sweetness, wet finish, no aftertaste, easy drinking every day beer, if it were available to me on a regular basis.

Off tap at the brewing company this beer was a hazy golden color with a billowing, three-fingers-worth of lemon-tinted head. The retention was good, and the head became rocky over time, leaving sticky lacing. The aroma was of lemons, spicy hops, a little pepper with a slightly musty note of yeast. The flavors were fairly light for 8.5% but refreshing. Tart in a way similar to lemon zest further accentuated by the spiciness of Saaz hops with a background of earthy malt and a good presence of Belgian yeast. Nice wheat notes but more advanced than that. The mouthfeel was good, the carbonation appropriate and the body medium/light.

Served on-tap at Teresa's Next Door for their Ithaca night, in a wide mouthed glass.
Hazy haystack yellow with some white gold intertwined, I wish I had my pinky ring to compare. A decent sized bubbly vanilla white froth on top before depleating, aww shucks. No lacing and it's impossible to see through.
White gold went through alot of odor changes in a short amount of time. Cold, there is a barley/wheat mix going on. In the middle the hops come into play giving earth. Close to room temp at the end lemon and oranges burst with zest.
This is a great APWA. It has so much going for it. Malted barley and a big dosing of wheat up front that does not stick around. Some hops giving some leafy, earth like taste mixing nice with the wheat. In the middle citrus with lemons and oranges. After some time some bready yeast with some barnyard attributes. Kinda Berliner Weisse like.
A medium bodied beer with a good amount of carb coming from the tap. WG comes off crisp in the beginning before it warms and dies down. I would say the wheat and lemon stay with me the longest, but none of the flavors over welcome their stsy.
This stuff is the tits. I had this before on tap about a year ago to the date of this writing and I like it even more now. I'm not sure if that's due to the keg being a bit older and the yeast kicking in a bit,(supposodly their is some wild yeast in this) but I would kill to have this on tap at my house in the springtime.

Slightly hazy amber in color. Pours with half inch head good lacing. Nondescript smell. Strong taste of citrus which lasts throughout. Aftertaste is not bitter. Average drinkability. Slightly on the heavy side for the beer type. Suprisingly high abc of eight percent

Given my normal antipathy toward Ithaca, I was pleasantly surprised by this beer.
Pours a clear yellow with a thin head and slight lacing. The aroma is persimmony, with the familiar sting of Pilsener malt with maybe a little floral hops in there somewhere. The flavor is sweet, pineapply, with a hint of white grape. It has a wheaty finish with a thin but refreshing mouthfeel.

Had this on-tap at Delaney's in New Haven, CT. Served in a snifter.
A hazy straw/gold color with a one finger bone white head. A good amount of carbonation and a small amount of sticky lacing.
Spicy clove and white pepper, bubble gum, lemon, orange peel, and biscuity yeast.
Pepper and clove up front with the yeast and citrus flavors coming in to balance it all out. Alcohol is extremely well-hidden. Well-balanced is this beers middle name.
Medium bodied with good carbonation. Body is a little heavier than it looks.
Drinks very well. Smooth and fulfilling all the way. This guy is a winner.

A- Murky yellow . Lots of head! Bottle was screaming with carbonation.
S- Sour, musty, barnyard filled with horses. Acidic with floral hops.
T- Key words to describe this:
Earthy, grassy, with tart fruitiness and light sour notes. Finish is clean, pretty dry. But it doesn't completely dry your mouth. Floral hop taste is detected, but not real bitter. As it warms, this floral/spicy hop presence is more pronounced. Slight alcohol warmth is detected on the tongue.
M- Real easy to drink. Silky smooth.
Overall, this does taste like a Belgian beer and a refreshing wheat beer mixed together! This is a little too sour to be what I want on a hot day, but real good regardless!

White Gold pours a light gold, almost straw color. It’s very hazy. Backlighting brightens things up a bit and gives it more of a true gold look. An incredible, foamy white head tops it. Carbonation looks very active as it stands about four fingers tall. It’s extremely slow to recede. Never completely dissipates. Lacing was very, very thick and sticky. Thick waves cling to the glass as it descends. Looks really good!
The nose is quite good. It’s very earthy, grainy, and musky up front. Wild yeast is easily noted, although it’s not really funky. Light lemon is apparent. Belgian yeast also has a notable presence. It definitely spices things up quite a bit. Pepper seems like the most notable scent. Some grassy notes emerge. Smells like it might be attributable to hops. Alcohol is a little noticeable, but is blended pretty well.
The flavor is impressive. It is earthy and grainy up front. There’s a little malt sweetness there, but earthy notes predominate. It’s definitely musky. Wild yeast doesn’t add a funky flavor, but it’s definitely musky. It’s a nice complement to the grainy notes and tastes good. I like it. Lemon and white grapes round out its fruity side. Belgian yeast is very tasty and brings a really nice spicy flavor to the mix. Pepper and light clove are noted. Grassy, earthy hop notes emerge late and are a nice touch. Alcohol doesn’t seem to be much of a factor. It’s masked well. Finishes earthy, grainy, musky, and spicy.
White Gold has a body that’s on the lighter side of medium. Carbonation is active, but the bubbles feel rather soft. For a bigger beer, it goes down easily. This one won’t last long.
White Gold is a nice addition to the Excelsior Series. It’s a tasty beer that definitely has more depth and character than you might expect. I wouldn’t fewer bubbles, but that’s my only small complaint. Good stuff. Definitely recommended.

Thanks to Hoyt for bringing this bottle to our last get together
A - foam exploded out of this one as soon as it was opened, it took quite a while to settle down; poured a hazy yellow with a big, frothy, white head that had great retention
S - very peppery and spicy
T - peppery, spicy, herbal hops, husky, lemon, straw
M - medium bodied, crisp, faint warming alcohol
This is one of the more complex and flavorful wheat ales I've ever had. The use of three different yeasts really imparts some tremendous spice. There is a noticeable hop character that is very complementary. I really very glad I got to try this one. If I could get Ithaca in NC, I would definitely get another bottle of this.

Huge huge huge bubbly head. Kind of fun, but a little excessive. My first pour was very clear with a golden hue, my second was hazy straw-colored. Smells of tart fruit, like plums and cherries, and a hint of malty musk. Begins with a bright snap on the front of your tongue, smooths out in the middle, and then bounces to a almost sour tang on the finish.
A bright beer with a certain funk that is intriguing. Zippy and smooth at the same time, which is a nice surprise.

Decided to pull a white gold out of the cellar.
A- floaties galore in this hazy dark orange of a brew. Marshmallow frosting head of foam with lacing all of the edges.
S- massive bready yeast with zest and herbal spices. Lemon and almost a grains of paradise scent.
T- good Belgian taste with spicy, fruity hops. Musty and somewhat dry on the finish
M- good creamy flavor with strong carbonation
O- an enjoyable cross between a Belgian style and wheat ale. Glad I have another one down stairs

From notes...
Pours a bright hazy gold color with a pretty nice bright white head.
Aromas are dusty and floral with some light Belgian yeast notes.
Taste is soft, with creamy sweetness up front. Beer then settles into some yeasty flavors and lemon zest. Finish is crisp, doughy, with a sugary and slightly bitter bite. Comes off to me as being while tasty, also kind of simple.
Mouthfeel is as mentioned soft also nicely carbonated.
Overall, a pretty nice refreshing and easy drinking beer. However, I was hoping for better when I read the description on the bottle.

Batch # E!040
Pours a deep golden color with fluffy white head that persists around the edges. A bit hazy around the edges but somewhat clear for a wheat beer.
The aroma is wheat and pilsner malt, noble hops, and a slight meringue like sweetness.
The flavor is wheat malt and peppery alcohol, with leafy hops. Slightly hot but better as it warms. Highly carbonated and slightly prickly from the alcohol.
If it wasn't for the noticeable alcohol this would be alot like a belgian triple with wheat. An enjoyable beer only slightly overpriced.

750 ml bottle into tulip glass, batch E!015(says copyright 2008 on the bottle). Pours hazy golden amber color with a fairly dense 2-3 finger white head with good retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Some slight spotty lacing on the glass. Aromas of big grape, lemon, apricot, earth, tart apple, herbal, wheat, bread, hay, and funk. Some pretty nice aromas with good strength and balance. Taste of grape, lemon, apricot, apple, herbal, coriander, earth, funk, grass, and hay. Lingering notes of grape, lemon, apricot, grass, hay, and herbal on the finish for a while. A lot of malty flavors with good complexity; and no cloying sweetness. Medium carbonation and body; with a fairly creamy and slick mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with pretty much no warming noticed at all on the finish. Overall this is a damn nice imperial wheat ale. Nice complexity and flavor balance; and extremely smooth to sip on. This has held up well for the age. Really enjoyable stuff.

Bottle courtesy of thecpj. Cheers!
A - Pours a hazy orange-gold with a dense, creamy white head that settles to a solid cap, leaving soapy lacing clinging to the glass.
S - Crisp aromas of wheat, toasted malt, orange and lemon peel hops, and earthy Brettanomyces. Nice and floral, reminds me a bit of a highly-hopped Saison with Brett.
T - Surprisingly tart, with a juicy lemon peel and orange character that is follows by more earthy, fairly funky, Brettanomyces, toasted grain, and a long-lasing bitterness. A pretty neat beer, "rustic" was a nice word to describe it.
M - Smooth and creamy, with a medium body , solid carbonation, and a pleasantly dry finish.
O - A nice blend of numerous beer styles, and it's always nice when Ithaca does a Brett beer.

Bottle: Poured a dirty pale yellow color ale with a super huge foamy head with perfect retention and loads of lacing. Aroma consists of Brett and light sour notes with light dry floral ester. Taste is a complex mix between some nice wheat malt with loads of floral notes and some sour and light funky yeast from the Brett yeast strain. Body is quite full with great carbonation and no apparent alcohol. This really hits a bunch of stuff I like in beers, i.e. wheat malt, dry hoppy notes and Brett. I would love to have access tot his on a regular basis.

A: Very obviously highly carbonated with a gigantic glass filling fluffy off-white head. This will take a few pours to get a glassful. Foam starts creeping out of the bottle as well. Frothy, whipped head sits on a peachy/orangey golden with plenty of haze & steady clouds of small bubbles that quickly rise to the head, bounce off, & cascade back down. Head turns rocky with greate retention and gobs of amazing lace. Gorgeous. Second half of bottle is cloudy but still glowing golden.
S: Slightly tart lemon on the surface with some sweeter stone fruit deeper down and touches of juicy orange/tangerine and a fair bit of tropical fruit mix that is focused on pineapple. Fruity citrus blends into rind & herbal & softly spicey hop character. Earthy yeast with a hint of funk and more tartness. Just noticeable dry & grainy malt with touches of biscuit, toasty grain, and a kiss of candi pils sweetness.
T: Like the nose, but less fruity and more robust, burly, and earthy / funky. Opens with lemon tartness, citrus rind, & a hint of juicier fruit (apricot / pineapple / & white grape skin) and a hint of pils malt sweetness. A touch of dry & toasty biscuit appears as the softer notes fade, and then gives way as well when lemon, ring, & tartness return with strength. Fairly firm bitterness is present as spicy, herbal, & earthy hop character joins the fray. Mild phenolics as well. Earthy note gets a bit funky &peppery in the finish with a hint of barnyard. Gets more orangey and spicy as it warms.
M: This might actually be medium body, but with the plentiful and active carbonation, and the tart and slightly acidic bit, it seems lighter. It appears to have some residual sugars and opens juicy. Then the bit of pucker come in and leads to a rustic drying finish – bite, effervescence, & acid/tartness forward – and earthy spice at the back. Quenching and cleansing.
D: Eclectic blend of style components is what this one is, but it all blends super well and is very appealing. Franco-Belgian-American-wit-wild-triple-saison-BPA-APA-APWA. . . . WTF, this is just nice stuff.

1119th Review on BA
Bottle to Stemmed Tulip
750 Ml
2011
Batch E!031
Thanks to Cpabeer and Stormking47 for the gift.
App- A very vibrant orange with a ton of yellow mixed in. A slow forming 1 finger white head left quickly with no cling or lace but left a 1/8" ring of bubbles.
Smell- A good mix of a lot of things. Yeasty, floral, citrus, funk, barn, hay and its a APWA. Go fiqure!
Taste- I really enjoyed this beer. I liked the layering of different flavors from the wheat to the funk and hay notes and then to a little bit of apple juice and to the different wild yeast notes. Was very different and very tasty.
Mouth- A thin medium body and a medium carbonation with residual apple juice and funk with some good yeast notes.
Drink- Many things going on in this glass and I really enjoyed it. Yeasty, funky, fruity and floral. I would love another bottle.

Nice huge white head poured out which settled to a thin layer on top. Slightly hazy gold, orange, and yellowish body. Some lacing and lots of carbonation streaming up the glass. Some floaties swirling around as well.
Mild farmhouse like funk sits behind lemon, yeast esters, oranges, citrus zest, and a touch of fresh doughy bread.
Tastes a lot like a slightly sour orange juice. A little of the wild yeast flavors come through at the middle and carry through the finish. Slightly chalky mouthfeel, tart, some lemon rind/light floral flavors, carbonation glides across the palate, and drys out quite a lot in the finish.
This is an easy drinking beer...especially at 8%, not tasting/feeling like it is over 5%. I would love the wild yeast to play a bigger part here. I wish it were to over take this beer. This would be an amazing base beer to a huge sour overhaul. All in all I find this to be very enjoyable and have plenty of really good qualities. A unique take on a wheat beer and is not like any Belgian-American beer in the same style category.

750ml Bottle - from the Party Source in Syracuse, enjoyed during the Super Bowl
Appearance - Slightly hazy yellow/amber colour with a massive size foamy white coloured head. There is a high amount of carbonation and there is some good lacing. The head lasted for over 5 minutes before it was gone.
Smell - Lemon, green grapes, clove/coriander, yeast, floral
Taste & Mouth - There is an above average amount of carbonation and I can taste lemons and wheat mixed with a lot of yeast flavour. There is also quite a bit of floral/peppery notes and some green grapes and a woodiness. As the beer warmed up I could pick up on some hops. It ended with a floral/yeasty dry aftertaste.
Overall - A quality beer that is well worth its price. Ithaca makes some fantastic beers and I'm happy I gave this one a try. The alcohol was well hidden and 750ml was the perfect amount for me.
