Presentation: 12 oz brown bottle with no freshness date.

Appearance: Weathered pale amber, very clear with a patchy white lace.

Smell: Clean and aromatic malt in the nose, good amount of toasted character with a faint caramel.

Taste: Crisp with a creamy back, moderate body with a stable malty mouth feel. Toasty biscuity malt character with a full graininess throughout. Fresh hoppiness with a modest but ample bitterness. Hop twang lasts with an herbal leafy flavour underneath the graininess.

Notes: Quite impressive and one I’ll search out every fall season. Lots of depth without being too thick.

I got a 500mL bottle of this as a closeout deal at Woodman’s in Rockford, IL in early 2012 for $1.99.

Pours a cloudy, copper color with a slight head on it. The scent is mild with grassy grains and a slight bit of spices. Taste is malty but rather watery for an Oktoberfest beer. I found some spices in the taste but not as many as I was expecting. Good drinkability and decent taste but probably one of the weaker Marzen beers I have ever had before but seeing how it’s April, I won’t complain too much.

500 ml bottle served in a snifter, reviewed live:

A - Pours a semi-transparent orange/caramel color with 2.5 fingers of decently thick, white head. Retention is pretty good, and the head leaves a good bit of lacing as it recedes.

S - Toasted malts, caramel, light floral hops, and an almost mineral like note, though it's not intrusive. Seems fairly simple, but mostly inviting.

T - Toasted malts and biscuity yeast dominate the palate through the climax, where the floral hops notes take over. It's far more bitter than I thought it would be, and it throws off the balance. Simple and muddy.

M - Medium bodied, thick and smooth.

D - It's o.k., but I probably won't have it again. It's imbalanced and not constructed well.

500ml bottle. Pours clear light orange amber with a big creamy off-white head that retains well and leaves a little lacing.

The aroma is sweet, almost sugary, toasted malts and toffee.

The flavor is the same - sweet sugary toasted malts with a dry finish. The mouthfeel is light to medium bodied with smooth carbonation.

Overall, a decent Oktoberfest. Too sweet and toasty for me.

"Best before" date clearly marked on label. I like to see this on German imports. This beer was bought at Coaltrain on review date for under $2.00. Poured into a snifter.

A gentle pour yields a red-tinged amber body under one finger of white head that diminishes within a few minutes.

There is very little aroma, mostly sweet light malts and slight noble hops.

The flavor is mild and smooth. Malts are on center stage and display a very nice dose of crackery, grainy, light toasty malt flavors in the aftertaste and on the back end of the flavor. There is some mild hop bitterness but less than what would be expected in a pilsener or lighter lager.

The mouthfeel is very smooth and is my favorite aspect of this beer.

Conclusion: This oktoberfest takes the mild smooth route instead of the malty-hoppy rich lager route. I like it, and it makes a nice easy drinking beer.

This beer poured out as a clear looking amber color with a foamy looking cream colored head on top. The smell of the beer had a good amount of caramel malt on the nose and some autumnal spices. The taste of the beer was nicely balanced between the bitterness and the malts, the spices kind of fall short for me. The mouthfeel of the beer was drinkable and medium bodied. Overall it's not a bad Oktoberfest but not my favorite either.
