Got a bottle of this from a friend.

A: Pours a very dark amber body with a small, tannish head with pretty nice retention and lacing.

S: A sweet, malty smell with some robust, roasted undertones with some smokiness as well.

T: A slightly, roasted toffee and slight coffee tastes with some bacon and smoky undertones that were not overbearing. The sweet, roasted malts returns in the aftertaste and as the beer warmed up.

M: A fairly thin mouthfeel that was also slightly watery, but overall the feel was pretty good for the style.

D: A good mouthfeel and taste combination made this beer very drinkable. I was hoping for a bit more smokiness to really balance out the sweeter malts, but it was still very nice.

This is a smoked schwarzbier, so it really is a rauchbier. Pours to a beige head that lasts, not much lacing. Aroma is smoky, roasty and malty. Nos fruity esters to get in the way because it is a clean, steely lager. Flavor is a delicious blend of smoke, coffee, chocolate and a spicy, smoky bitter finish. Mouthfeel is light-medium with a warming sensation. Overall, a very tasty but lightly smoked rauchbier. Not really a schwarz. But damn good!

Poured from bottle into a pint glass

Appearance- The beer pours a dark brown color with a two finger brown colored head. The head fades rather fast to leave a lighter level of lace on the sides of the glass.

Smell-The aroma is sweet of caramel and has a nice backbone of roasted malt and a touch of smoke.

Taste- The taste begins with some roasted malt and some sweet caramel upfront. As the flavors advance, some flavors of coffee and a bit more roastedness come to the tongue with the dwindling of some of the caramel. A toffee like sweetness replaces the caramel though, maintaining the sweetness of the brew. In the end a light smokiness comes to the tongue leaving a pleasant sweet and roasted flavor to linger on the tongue.

Mouthfeel- The body of the beer is average to light with a carbonation level that is on the average side. A slightly thicker body may have been better for the roasted flavors of the brew, although the carbonation level was rather fitting for the drinkability and strength of the beer.

Overall- A rather decent black lager with a decent flavor and mix between sweet and malt. Rather easy drinking overall.

The beer pours a deep, dark brown color. A decent, light-tan head provides a decent lacing. Smoky aromas dominate the nose, and hints of chocolate and cocoa poke through as well. Roasted malts mix with smoke on the palate while a thin earthiness and a touch of nuttiness make an appearance before fading into a spicy hop bitterness. Medium-light in body, Kidd is moderately carbonated.

This is a roasty black that is almost a rauchbier. It is black and nearly opaque but with very little head.. The aroma is close to that of a smoked beer.

The taste is of smoke as well, roasty to an extreme. Otherwise it has a clean crisp taste, and the aftertaste works the same way - very cleanly.

Kidd is one of many Colorado beers we are drinking this week while skiing in Vail. Like many of the others, it is a credit to the state.
