A- Nice golden haze, with carbonation very present.
Ar- Spiced, skunky, wheat notes.
T-clove, grain, bits of orange peel very citric. A very crisp and light beer.
MF-carbonation tickles the inside of the mouth, very crisp. Light and pleasant.
Had on tap @ Lucky Baldwins
P.S. Much better from the bottle.

Had this on tap at Backcounty in Nederland. Pours a hazy yellow with a lacy beige head. The nose has candy malts, citrus fruits and a bit of funky yeast. Taste is a bit more mellow, but still quite good. Very well balanced. Crisp medium body suits style. Would pair well with most any meal.

On tap @ beachwood bbq. Pours clear bronze, slight head. Aroma is saison - earth, yeast, foral hops.
Very drinkable, and a very standard saison - citrus, hops, yeast, spice, earth, slightly dry finish. Nothing jumping out to WOW me, but a good beer.

Appearance: hazy golden/blond with a soft, one-finger bright white head
Smell: Everything Belgium--floral, yeasty, dirty, earthy
Taste: Sort of spicy, a lot complexity from the yeast, and some bite at the end. You kind of look at this beer, which appears usual, take a sip, and keep sipping because of the unexpected complexity.
M-Feel: Carbonated at the beginning, smooth.
Drinkability: If Barack Obama signs a bill into effect where I'm paid to drink this all day...

Had this on tap at the Birreria Paradiso in D.C.
Appearance: Gorgeous opaque golden color that almost glows with billowy, frothy head like clouds on a nice day. I know Duvel is the flagship Belgian golden ale, but in my opinion this should be it.
Smell: Like running in an Allegra commercial. Tulips, fresh cut grasses, hop fields, yeast, and just the slightest touch of lemon zest. Freshness all around.
Taste: Amazing. Citrus... like biting into a juicy lemon but with none of the associated sourness. Yeast, spices, hops... the flavor just explodes on your tongue. Finishes dry and overwhelmingly refreshing.
Overall: I can't think of any other beer that literally makes me want to go run in a field of dandelions. This beer has the imagery of a beautiful spring day associated with it (and no, I'm not drunk while writing this). Well done, Brasserie Dupont.

Had this on tap at a special function at a local beer bar. A cloudy, straw colored pour with a decent head. The aroma had citrus and light malty overtones. Flavors are oranges and a certain tartness, but very smooth. Excellent mouthfeel and finish. Letting it warm in your hands only adds to the flavors you can experience.
This is an excellent beer. It would have been nice to have more than on glass of it. Even Mrs. Kdog enjoyed it.

I'm not very experienced in the Farmhouse Ale category, but this one came recommended so I gave it a shot.
Mine poured a cloudy yellowish haze, with a very thick head that took a decent period of time to disapate and left a fairly thick residue.
This beer has a crisp fruity taste with a decent bite to it. Also a rich fruity musty bouquet is present.
Like I've said I havent experienced many saison brews although this one doesn't make me jump for joy to go grab another. It was worth a try atleast once.

I've had this a few times now. On tap at Victoria Gastro Pub (Columbia, Md.)
In a 20oz nonic, oddly, but it worked well for various reasons.
Refreshing, full-bodied and aromatic. I've had a love/hate thing going with Saison DuPont, and its biteyness and just something odd and off-putting in it always struggle with me. It was still there this time, but subdued and the natural aromatics and varied flavors that I love about saisons came through here.
Grassy and just a touch hoppy with sweetness and that great nose, good stuff. When it's cared for properly this is a thrill to drink and I was nearly thrilled this time. Nearly. I certainly didn't recoil as I sometimes do with Saison DuPont.

Pours a clouded gold with a white head. Funky and smooth nose. Flavor is a magnificent combo of yeast, citrus and funk. It's beautiful. Feel has a smooth liquid end and the carbonation has a bit of a sharp bite. Overall smooth though. There's a reason why this is the standard for saisons. Don't know the reason? Try it and you'll see.

This beautiful beer pours a hazy orange color with extremely good head retention and belgian lacing. There is some light pepper and citrus aroma and an earthy bready belgian yeast aroma. The flavors replicate the aroma and this beer really is a world class example of the style. It is decidedly on the dry side, but with an excellent palate profile of pepper, citrus and honey. The beer has a fairly good mouthfeel for a beer with a lot of wheat in it. It's easy to drink and pretty refreshing.

on tap at hopleaf in chicago, served with some muscles and frites
appearance: served in a nice tulip-goblet, full-bright golden peach body, white cascading caps with moderate retention
smell: funky, peachy, fruity, white pepper
taste: one of the flagships of the style for sure...the funk is under control and matched with highly potent peach/apricot fruity sweetness and a kicking white pepper spice...very well hopped with an emphasis on dry citrus
mouthfeel: active carbonation, bubbly and lively - sacrifices just a smidget of drinkability
drinkability: strong

Probably should have reviewed this excellent beer long before now. Had on tap today at the Victoria Gastro pub in Columbia.
The beer pours a hazy orange tan color with very good head retention and lacing. I don't get a lot on the nose, but what I get is pretty good. There is some light honey, white pepper and citrus. The beer does not smell as if it will be super sweet. The flavors on the palate replicate the nose and this beer really is delicious. It is decidedly on the dry side, but with an excellent palate profile of pepper, citrus and honey. The flavors are quite pronounced; there's nothing reticent about the flavor of this beer. The beer has a fairly light mouthfeel with the alcohol well disguised. It's easy to drink and pretty refreshing.
One of my favorite saisons. This beer is just excellent.
Edit from 1/23/11. No change in score, but the beer is on tap at Max's today, and the bartender (Jason) served me a 32 ounce glass of this beer. That'll surely never happen again, and I thought that by itself was deserving of a short note.

Golden-orange and hazy, served with about an inch of white head with great retention. Legs in great sheets down the glass. Very attractive.
Farmhouse-earthy, phenolic yeast character, with some lighter colored fruit aromas.
Yeast-driven, this one is a little better in the bottle I think, given the secondary conditioning that works so well with this style. Grainy, herbal, with big phenolic character. So full of flavor, without much to hang your hat on.
Finish is dry, crisp, very smooth. Not much lingering flavor, but it's very pleasant with the high carbonation balancing beautifully the relatively full body. Recommended.

Enjoyed on tap at Novare Res, Portland, ME
Pours a hazy gold with a foamy three-finger off-white head that lasted for several minutes before fading to a thick cap. Decent lacing.
Smell is dominated by cloves, but there is also some banana, orange peel, coriander, pepper, candied sugar, and a bit of doughy malts.
Taste is sweet and spicy, much like the nose, and again is dominated by the cloves. It is very earthy, with a good balance of sweet, sour, spice and funk.
Medium-bodied mouthfeel. It starts off creamy and finishes crisp and dry.
Although it is not my favorite for the style, it is very drinkable and extremely enjoyable.

I love Hennepin and I know this beer is supposed to be THE saison, but I always seem to judge saisons against Hennepin. Is this wrong.
This is pretty killer though. More clear than I was expecting, but very nice. Spicy and full of cloves. Very solid.
This is a very good saison, but I think I will stick with Hennepin. I definitely recommend it though.

A: Murky, somewhat blonde (reviewed not long after changing the draft). A nice, semi-foamy head, leaving a thin lacing around the rim.
S: Quite a big aroma of fresh fruit peel, pear, some little hints of clove, and a sweet spiciness.
T: A fresh fruit zest, especially pear and apple peel. A little bit of very light citrus (not really at all tart or puckering). A bit of grassiness, and perhaps some clove. Quite nice.
M: I'd like a touch more carbonation, but some of that may be a result of the tap change. A medium body, which is nice, though. Decent, all around.
D: While this tends to lean towards a little nicer to drink, I think I'd prefer it as a sipper over swigging.

On-tap poured into a tulip glass.
A- It poured a hazy, bright, golden-yellow. I couldn't make out any sort of head, but there was a thin lace.
S- It had a lot of yeasty tones in the aroma. It made for a sweet and spicy scent.
T- It had the flavor I expected from the smell. It was wonderfully yeasty and spicy with a nice play between sweet and sour flavors.
M- There was a nice chewy and grainy feel to this beer.
D- It was an easy sipper. It had an interesting flavor, yet was quite refreshing.

On-tap 1/7/08 at Pitcher's Pub in Cumberland, RI, served in a snifter glass.
A: The beer is a light gold color, with a short white head that fades slowly and leaves a thin lace on the glass.
S: The aroma is of bananas, spices, Belgian yeast, light malts and a touch of hops.
T: The taste is full of spice and Belgian yeast with a background of bananas. The malt character is thin and there's a mild but complimentary hops presence. The after-taste is spicy and slightly sweet.
M: Crisp and very smooth, medium body, medium carbonation, very clean finish.
D: Tasty, goes down easily, not too filling, good kick, very good representation of style, this is a good beer to drink for a long time, especially if you're in the mood for the style.

I tried this beer at Max's Taphouse in Fells point on draft. The appearance was excellent, sparkling golden color with a rocky off white head.
Dupont had a fruity snappy hop aroma.
It's taste was more than delicious, it was magnificent. Light and dry but full bodied at the same time, it could be the most drinkable and delicious ale on the planet.
I would highly recommend trying this beer. It is also great in bottles where it provided an even stronger aroma. On draft seasonally at Max's. I found it at Astor liquor in Laurel in 11.2 oz bottles.

This beer has a nice slightly hazy orange/straw color combination with a good head that lingers and then leaves good lacing. Nose is yeast, wheat, orange, and hints of white pepper and lemon. Taste is great, with an earthy/clay yeast flavor and bits of hoppy goodness. Some spices come through as well as citrus. Mouthfeel is quite good, very full and frothy. Highly drinkable. Excellent example of a saison.

I had this on tap at my favorite pizza pub, served in a traditional Belgian ale glass.
Appearance was excellent -- pale gold in color, with a full, creamy head.
Aroma was unremarkable... but I've been suffering from hayfever of late, so I gave the brew the benefit of the doubt.
Flavor was excellent, with a full spectrum of sweet-bitter flavor coming through. Pleasant mandarin orange aftertaste.
Mouthfeel was fine -- substantial and creamy with no acidic qualities whatsoever.
The brew was very drinkable. I also noticed some of my colleagues (even those who aren't fond of strong-tasting beer) were ordering a second (and some even a third!) glass.

On tap at the Map Room. Pours cloudy gold with a large white head that quickly fades without much lacing.
The aroma is very light and slightly fruity, with some light malts and noble hops. I can't pick up more than a trace of acidity or Brett character.
The flavor opens up with lemon citric flavor. Light malts show up mid-palate, and restrained noble hop flavors appear on the finish. Some tartness is present, but it's very slight. There might be some phenols lurking in here too, but all the flavors are so light that it's hard to tell.
Mouthfeel is light and moderately heavily carbonated.
Very drinkable, but ultimately too boring for me. I like a more assertive beer than this, but I don't know that I can blame Dupont specifically for this-- I've had the same issues with other Saisons I've tried. People go on and on about the complexity here, but I'm willing to be crass and unsophisticated about this one; it's just not bold enough or surprising enough for me.

had this on-tap at the hopleaf, and it poured a clear straw yellow/light orange. the bouqet was somewhat subtle, maybe it was because i was drinking this between some stronger, hoppier beers. it definitely had the unique aromas of belgian yeasts going on, smelled very much like a duvel. also some light bready notes and vegetal/grassy aromas. taste was just a hint of malt sweetness and a moderate amount of hops mixed in. light in body and spritzy carbonation but not artificially so. medium finish. would try it again if the price is right.

A- light orange with cream colored head, cloudy with a little lace.
S- floral. almost nothing but perfume, a mixed bouquet of lavender, lilac, yeast, citrus, alcohol and honey. wonderful and complex. after the glass is empty, it smelled like wheat grain.
T- suprisingly bitter. only a hint of malt, but mostly grapefruit, yeast. white bread, alcohol, lemon, and some piney hops. very long and sour in the finish. leaves a bitter citrus and a slightly tinny taste behind.
M- medium thin, with medium carbonation. lingering astringency in the finish.
D- average. too strong, bitter and sour to merit a higher score.
Judging by other reviews, this beer must be better from a bottle!
