Pours a super-hazed glowing orange color, big fluffy white head slowly dissipates and leaves pretty good lacing on the glass, lots and lots of tiny floaties roaming around. Smells spicy, earthen, some faint lemon and pepper, great aromas on this beer. Taste is wheaty, some pear and citrus, more pepper, some slight bitter lemon. Really refreshing, incredibly crisp and dry, really hitting the spot on a muggy July night. Seems like a really good representation of the style... a total classic, and I can see why this one is so highly rated.

Had this on tap at the Birreria Paradiso in D.C.

Appearance: Gorgeous opaque golden color that almost glows with billowy, frothy head like clouds on a nice day. I know Duvel is the flagship Belgian golden ale, but in my opinion this should be it.

Smell: Like running in an Allegra commercial. Tulips, fresh cut grasses, hop fields, yeast, and just the slightest touch of lemon zest. Freshness all around.

Taste: Amazing. Citrus... like biting into a juicy lemon but with none of the associated sourness. Yeast, spices, hops... the flavor just explodes on your tongue. Finishes dry and overwhelmingly refreshing.

Overall: I can't think of any other beer that literally makes me want to go run in a field of dandelions. This beer has the imagery of a beautiful spring day associated with it (and no, I'm not drunk while writing this). Well done, Brasserie Dupont.

Puts other Belgium beers to shame.

A - Color indicative of a wheat or other unfiltered beer. Golden with a lot of visible carbonation. Smooth head.

S - For whatever reason, the first note, to me, is bubble gum, sweet and skunky at the same time. Slight citrus notes.

T - Exceptionally smooth and delicate. There is a fruity flavor to the beer, has similarities to other wheat / hefeweizen brews. Almost impossible to drink slowly and truly appreciate the flaors.

M - Smooth and effervescent.

D - Other than the expensive imported price of almost $5 per 375 ml (12.4 oz), this beer would be a great six pack. Easy to drink and quickly becoming one of my favorite all-time.

Poured into an over-sized red wine glass. Saison Dupont produces a thick white head over a golden honey body. Mostly clear with lots of small bubbles racing upwards to sustain the thick head.

The aroma is that of a well produced Belgian. Yeasty, malty, with some spice reminiscent of corriander. A little nutty.

The first sip is a mixture of creamy white head, smooth malts and just a bit of spice. After another sip I can tell that this is perfection. The malt profile is at first sweet, but refined. Never overwhelming in its sweetness. Boardering more on a bready, somewhat nutty profile. Corriander, but lightly added and a few squeezes of citrus, make the flavor full yet extremely refreshing.

Mouthfeel is super smooth. The creamy head stays constant and mixes with every sip, creating an excellent body.

Drinkability is through the roof and at 6.5%, you could drink quite a bit of this. So enjoyable to drink.

In short, this is the quintessential Saison / Farmhouse ale. The best I have ever had the pleasure of drinking. Saison Dupont's strength is in the perfect balance of its flavor profile. Delicious and refreshing. Simply a classic.

Wow, this is my favorite Belgian beer I've had, and maybe my favorite of all time, or close to it. I know that is high praise, but this stuff is excellent.

Every sip is amazing, light, fluffy, but good flavor, refreshing as well, I could drink this all the time during the summer. Lemony-citrus flavor working, a slight bitterness to it as well, finishing a bit sour. Overall very well balanced, all flavors mesh together very well, you can definitely taste the yeast as well. Solid, solid beer.

Amazing pour and color as well. I've had a few of the American brewers version of a farmhouse ale, and this is a whole different ballgame. I want more.

From 750 ML bottle

Appearance: Huge creamy, light head. Slightly cloudy creamy wheat yellow. settles within 5 minutes to a light patchy/creamy head with good lacing.

Aroma: Fresh, creamy, floral, spicy, yeasty but not overly sweet nose. Hint of funk & Brett. Piquant & perfect. Underline Flavorful & Fresh.

Simply put, this nose IS Saison Dupont.

Palate: On the palate round & piquant, creamy & grainy, fleshy, but firm & refreshing. Some discreet acidity keeps the flavor & overall balance beautifully fresh. Dry softly bitter, fresh finish . . . Flawless & sneakily magnificent.

Mouthfeel: Lightness & weight, Sweet creaminess balanced by a refreshing graininess throughout. Dry, slightly earthy clean, fresh slightly hoppy finish. This all equals a Great mouthfeel.

Drinkability: Big & flavorful, but light on it's feet. No need to call it a sesh brew, but this has great drinkability.

This is GREAT BEER!

I think my body sees this stuff as food, & who am I to argue?!?

Corked 375ml bottle poured into chalices.

A- beautiful golden/slight orange color and slightly cloudy with white head.

S- I'm immediately hit with floral and fruity (apricots and peaches) notes followed by the pilsner malts.

T- First I taste the crispness of the pilsner malts followed by some yeast and spices. The taste rounds out with the fruits (apricots and peaches again and a little citrus).

M- light bodied with a good bit of carbonation to keep things interesting.

D- With its dry and complex flavor, I want to think this has a higher ABV than it really does. Knowing that, I could easily down several on a nice hot day.

Poured into a tulip glass at refer temps

A: Fantastic yellow-orange color, with a massive 2 inch head and that left lacing own the glass after about 5 minutes. Lots of bubbles and no yeast floaties.

S: Tart apple and citrus, with that bread Brett yeast nose. Spicy hops and malt blend that remind me of flowers and passion fruit.

T: ah so fine this is the gold standard of Saisons.
Sharp spicy front end of cirtus and apples, with some herbs and that brett bite. All blends so well with the hop bite and malt sweetness. Very complex beer that changes a tad every year due to the terrior etc.

M: medium body, lots of carbonation

T: smooth beer and no hint of 6.5 abv, easy as hell to drink a full 750 solo

Appearance: Light golden yellow, voluminous white head that dissipates slowly and leaves tons of lacing

Smell: Ripe pear, herbs, and a very earthy yeast. Very complex

Taste: Earthy and spicy, herbal, a little fruity, with a little tartness. Also very complex, hard to hit on all the flavors

Mouthfeel: Light to medium body, high carbonation, very smooth and creamy mouthfeel with a semi dry finish

Overall: An outstanding brew, completely different from Ommegang's Hennepin, which is the only Saison I've had before this. Both are good, but far apart, and I like this better. This really blew me away on how complex and great it is.

Beautiful deep golden brew with a big fluffy/rocky white head that slowly fades, but never leaves, and rings the glass superbly. Nice musty aroma is the first thing to hit the nose with some very nice spicy hoppiness and spritzy spices in there as well. Nice tame malt lies in the background with some pepper and other spices over riding towards the end of the aroma. Nice light maltiness is the first flavor onto the tongue. This is quickly followed up by some light pepper and clove spiciness mixed in with other spices. There is a definite spicy, herbal hop flavor to this as well as some nice earthy qualities. It is almost like a Gueuze light. All the flavors I love in my favorite Belgian style are toned down just a bit for this one. Slightly sour and acidic qualities are balanced by the herbalness. Excellent medium-light body to this brew with an almost tingly feeling due to fairly high carbonation. Excellent brew and one that I would gladly purchase again.

Tasted at 't Rusteel in Belgium. Appearance: Golden yellow, clear, big head, but fades rapidly. Aroma: Spicy, big hop presence. Nice "mustiness" from cork. Flavor: Crisp hops, nice malt character in background, and good, earthy, cork character. Finish: crisp and tart. Some oxidation, but mostly seems beneficial to beer's complexity.

Hazy, peachy-honey yellow hue, sparse white head, awfully small. I assume the gasses from the bottle were released prematurely as the bartender open the 12-ounce bottle and it took the waitress a moment too long to bring me the sample. I am angered and disappointed. No lace was produced either as the beer was removed from the glass, speaking of glass it was a straight-sided pint glass! Curse the Dundee Dell! The nose is tart, earthy, peppery, grassy and very lively. The potency is respectable, welcoming for sure. The palate is everything you want in a Saison and then some. Tart and lively upfront with earthiness, fresh cut grass, hay, horse blankets, pepper, grapes, traces of white wine, pears, a hint of green apple peel, undercurrents of indescribable loveliness. The carbonation is lively enough to play up the taste and refresh at the same time. Medium in body, smaller than I expected but it has a very workable mouthfeel. Dry finish yet fruity and juicy. This is a great beverage, absolutely wonderful, it doesn’t hurt I love this style of beer. If I were stuck on a desert island this would be the beer of choice. This is a ‘must try’ for every serious beer drinker. Awesome.

A new and exciting style of beer for me. It pours a hazy yellow color and has a thick foamy head. It has sour yeasty aroma that good Belgian beers all have in common. It's sour, spicy and has a very dry finish. It is very complex, yet very refreshing style of beer. this is my first Saison and I am liking the style already. I don't think the Belgians are capable of brewing a bad beer.

Pours a pale yellow color, just a bit of chill haze that disappears soon enough, and a massive, billowing near-white head. Head leaves a mess of stick on the sides of the glass as it recedes to a pretty thick, chunky lace on top.

Smell is eminently complex, with some funky farmhouse aromas going on, yeast, some malt sweetness, toasty grain, herbal hops, some fruit and spice. Every sniff delivers something new.

The taste is also quite complex and evolves from mouthful to mouthful and as it warms. There is a light malt sweetness and toasty/grain flavor that underlies the rest, including yeast, floral and fruity hops, a bit of spice. There is a splash of herbal and earthy hop bitterness toward the end that lingers into the finish. Finish is also pretty dry as is the mouthfeel overall, which is also crisp and light in the mouth. Exceptional.

This is a fantastic beer. I could drink this damn near all night. I enjoyed every drop and will gladly come back for more. Highly recommended.

A-Pours a cloudy yellow/brown. Has an excellent head when poured correctly and it will linger for awhile.

S-It has a sweet/sour kind of aroma.

T/M-This is a smooth ale that will be a definite add to my collection. It has no bitterness or aftertaste just perfect.

D-If I could buy a keg I would. Try one you won't be dissapointed.

Pours a nice golden color with a beautiful rocky white head. Ive seen the head on this beer easily be 2 inches. It has a meringue-like consistenty.

Smells of lemongrass with a nice bready malt aroma. I love the aromas coming off this beer. It smells very herbal and you can smell the spicy yeast in the background.

Taste is similiar spectacular. Tastes like a really nice pilsner beer at first sip and as you move the beer around in your mouth you get all the spicy character from the yeast. Its also quite hoppy, but not in an American APA way. Its very well balanced.

Mouthfeel is sort of creamy but also fizzy as you can feel the carbonation in your mouth. Every sip inviting you back for more.

Drinkability is superb. Very refreshing, especially on a hot summer day and we have alot of those where I live. Everything about this beer is outstanding.

Initial impression: picture-perfect Belgian. Appearance was a cloudy yellow-gold. No head, no lacing, but that was probably due to the pour.

Smell was hard to define--brassy, earthy (but not grassy), and spicy. Tasted almost like a pilsner on the first sip (malt upfront, hops in the back), spicy, hoppy, and sharp. Evaporated off the tongue quickly, leaving a refreshing and bitter aftertaste.

Excellent beer.

On tap at Whole Foods. Served in a Russian River goblet.

Murky, dull golden body. Lace white head. Very rocky. Doesn't leave much on top, but it sure does leave some nice lacing.

Sharp aromas of lemon citrus. Corriander spicing. Earthy yeast, with a slight must. There's also a tart raspberry esque aroma. Light hopping, with aromas of grass. Rustic all around.

Carbonation attacks the tongue right away, making this a dry drink all the way through. Light spicing, giving a good coriander flavor without overpowering. Lemon twang and grassy hops. Cracker malt backbone, with some pepper and earthy yeast flavors. Finish is dry with citric sourness, again with just the right amount.

Easy to see how this is the benchmark of the style. This drinks amazingly well.

Appearance: Hazy, straw yellow, 2 fingers of head and steady stream of carbonation bubbles.

Smell: Lemon and spice with some apple tones.

Taste: Complex.  The Belgian yeast is obvious; however, there are subtle hints of white grape and citrus.  The  tartness that is experienced midway in the taste has grapefruit and pepper essence.

The mouthfeel has medium body with strong carbonation. The finish is dry and crisp. Perfect for summer. I can easily see why this often considered among the top brews in the world.

Sampled from a 750 mL GREEN champagne bottle purchased from Papago Brewing Company in Scottsdale, AZ. The cork says 2002.

Appearance: golden/straw colored, irradescent (really picks up the light and glows), dense off-white rocky head, SUPER head retention and resilient lacing, the head lays there like whip-cream for a long, long time

Aroma: a spicy/peppery aroma, potent floral hoppiness, slightly citrusy

Flavor: mellow malty/honey-like sweetness and a smooth smooth hop flavor, reserved bitterness in the flavor-break and finish, spicy esters, finishes semi-dry, bitterness stays on the lips from contacting the foamy head

Mouthfeel: medium-light body, tingly/spritzy carbonation, slight astringency felt on teeth, really wakes up your palette

Drinkability: very refreshing and drinkable, would be a great lawn-mower beer for beer conisseurs with lawns

Additional notes: this is one of my favorite beers and has inspired my current foray into saisons. Even skunked to hell (yeah, damn green bottles), this beer is remarkable and lusciously tasty. If I could find a bottle that had NEVER seen even the dimmest beam of light, I think I would immediately transcend to beer heaven.

Pours a cloudy golden yellow with a massive head that dissipates very slowly leaving a substantial cap.

Grassy, herbal, citrusy nose with hop background.

Complex taste that grows on you. Really well balanced, malt and hops come together well in a brew that displays characteristics from tart, to bitter, and with a dry finish.

Mouthfeel is crisp with good carbonation that refreshes well.

Drinkability good as a easy drinking, lower ABV Belgian should be.

2005 vintage 750ml.

Had 3 of these in my cellar, figured Id pop one and see how its going. Poured into and oversize wine glass. In the bottle, this appeared much clearer than my 07.s. In the glass it is similar except that the head is twice the size and stays that way. Much skunkier, spicier smell than 07. Also much more carbonated. The cork hit the ceiling. The nose is absolutely dilectable for a farmhouse saison. sweet, spicy, fruity nose. The first sip is very fruity and smooth. The hop taste follows with almost a coriander, fruit taste and spicy tones, with slightly skunky mixtures ( It is in a green bottle!) the finish has reduced in bitterness with its two years of age. The mouthfeel is silkier than fresh bottles and the carbonation is more intense. Drinkability is very good. A pleasure to drink, a fine saison.

Poured from bottle into a Belgian Tulip

A: Golden/Yellow Opaque with a 2 inch thick head that reduces to a nice cap that stays with the beer and leaves a little lacing.

S: Spicy/Grassy with a little clove coming through. Very pleasant aroma, great to just take in a huge breath before every drink.

T: Spicy at the start finishing with a little fruitiness and leaveing just a slightly bitter aftertaste.

M: Mild body with good carb, goes down well.

D: Excellent beer to have on a nice mild sunny day. A little high ABV to be considered session, but if you have nothing to do, I could see drinking a good number of these. Excellent Saison.

Look: Excellent gold with a lighter straw around the edges. I got a 3 1/2 finger head with superior retention. Nice webbed lacing. (Half done and the lacing still reaches the top of the mug.)

Smell: I have yeast and bread for sure. A very dry pear(? maybe ?) very earthy and interesting. It is a very inviting smell, "Come on over, drink me down buddy." I certainly will sir, I certainly will.

Taste: Smooth, tart fruit and sweet bread (not sweetbreads, but sweet tasting bread.) It is very balanced taste. Aftertaste lingers for a bit and stays pretty mellow.

Mouthfeel: Just how you would want it to be. Moderate carbonation and very very smooth. Not too syrupy going down. One of my favorite things about this Saison.

Drinkability: All day, every day (lol). I think this is a great beer for ANYBODY. I could never get tired of it. I've even thought about sticking a few in my cellar to see how they turn out with a bit of age. Mmmm Mmmm delicious!
