On draft last night at a beer event on Brannan street, SF.

Bouquet of hops hops hops. Peach is the dominant fruit flavor upfront, followed by apricots and mangos. Nice piney dry finish and just a kiss of malt to let you know it's there. It is a tad bit boozy but at 12.3% you could not mask this beer any better. That aspect was very impressive.

The nose was huge with what I decribed above however, I prefer tropical / tangerine citrus over peaches and Apricots but that's getting pretty knit picky. This Triple IPA is damn good for the ABV. Pliny the Younger and 21A's Original "Hop Crisis" from 2 or 3 years back are the only 2 triple IPA's I can think of that I prefer over this.

To note, I had this beer after trying Drake's Black Label. For my preference, this beer was noticeably better than the Black Label.

From notes from SF Beer Week. Had twice: Once at opening ceremony and once at Bistro DIPA festival. Pours a clear orange color with an amber hue. Small white head that disappears quickly. Scent is WOW...a huge amount of tropical fruit. I don't believe I've ever had this much tropical fruit meshed so well with hoppiness in the aroma of a beer. Delicious fresh pineapple and mango aromas with bitter hops make my nostrils very happy. Not too much malt either (which is surprising for how high the ABV is). Taste is just what I was hoping for. Great tropical fruit flavors and manages to keep a well-over 100 IBU hop profile without being a malty mess. The malts are on the back-burner when it comes to this fruity, hoppy masterpiece. Gives PtY a run for its money for sure. Mouthfeel is full bodied and sticky. Drinkability is scary high. Overall, this was one of my highlights of my SF beer week trip. Never had a beer from Triple Rock before, and this one was amazing.

A - Served a clear golden orange color with a thin finger of frothy white head. The head fades down quick leaving behind some lace.

S - The aroma is full of lots of pineapple and grapefruit hops with some pine and some sweet caramel malts with a touch of booze and some residual sugar sweetness.

T - Starts off with a strong kick of bitterness with lots of pine and grapefruit hop flavors and a touch of floral flavor and some sweet malts. Through the middle, even more bitterness comes through alongside some more tropical fruit and some residual sugar sweetness. The finish is a mix of more grapefruit and citrus hops with a bit of candied fruit flavor and a touch of booze.

M - Medium-full bodied with moderate carbonation. Feels smooth with a resiny finish that is a mix of warming, dry, and lightly sweet.

D - Very drinkable. Really big hoppy beer, they just keep coming. Felt just a touch rough from the residual sweetness that comes through but otherwise super tasty.

On tap at Triple Rock. Pours a clear light amber with a small white head that settles to ring and leaves some light lacing on the glass. The aromas is big citrus with grapefruit and orange and some pine. Also, some caramel sweetness. The taste is sweet with pine, grapefruit, orange, and some sweet caramel. The finish is bitter with a bit of alcohol. Medium body. Medium carbonation. A little bit sweet, but that is expected for a beer of this size.

Sampler at the brewpub.

Clear orange-amber body with a thin, fleeting head that recedes to a collar.

Big juicy pineapple aroma, moderately sugary but not malt dominant. There's a touch of vanilla, surprisingly, and lesser notes of pine and fresh herbs. Nary a trace of booze, this is very impressive.

Pineapple is big on the palate, too. Sweet and juicy, not overly heavy. The mid-palate is more resinous, with flavors of pine and bitter herbs becoming more prominent, along with a slight alcohol sting. It's a bit syrupy up front, but finishes fairly dry with lingering tropical fruit flavors and a touch of alcohol.

Fantastic stuff overall, very similar to Drake's Black Label Hopocalypse. Hard to decide which one I like more. This beer is a touch more dry and resinous, while Black Label probably has a more expressive tropical fruit character. Both are exceptionally good.
