In Charlotte for the weekend so I had to stop by here basef on the reviews. I hate to be critical about a small town place, especially with how awesome Mike the owner was, but this is not a place worth stopping by if you are from out of town. If you live in Charlotte and this is the best you have, then go for it. However, based on beer stores nationally this place is merely average. The selection is average, there are tons of bottles but its basically just all the staples from Belgium, Germany and the US. The regional selection was severely lacking, past the point of disappointment. There was one style of Duck Rabbit, one sytle of Olde Meclenberg then a couple growlers from Catawba. No local 6 packs to go or anything like that at all. There was practically nothing I couldn't get anywhere else except Cascade Kriek and Sibernain nights. which are awesome. As everyone said Mike is super friendly and I got a free glass too. The selection and quality, probably due to distrubtion just isn't there. Needs to be stacked with locals IMHO. If your in town for a quick visit don't bother.

This is not a world class beer store, no matter what the homers say.
This store is very unorganized with open cases all over the place, the atmosphere is lacking. It loses points with me for not giving a damn about presentation.
The selection is nothing to write home about, but the prices are fair.
Brawley's is friendly and they stock some nice glassware, but with Salud, Good Bottle, Common Market, and Davidson Beverage Co., it's hard to find a reason to recommend this spot above the others in Charlotte, especially considering they have no taps.

If you don't know what you're looking for, you're likely to drive right past the grey shack that houses Brawley's. It's worth keeping an eye open for, however. I probably stop by about once every 4-6 weeks, and my experience has generally been determined by who's working--Mike, Mike Sr., or Mike's mom (sorry I don't know her name). Mike is very knowledgeable about his product, but his mom is probably the nicest person I've ever met in a beer store, and would much rather go when she's there. Mike Sr., however, is somewhat rude and usually engages in off-color commentary/humor with other regulars.
So back to the beer--great selection of singles and six-packs, and probably the best place around to get brewery-specific glassware, albeit a bit pricey. My advice--stop by, stop by frequently, and make sure Mike knows you're name, as that way you're more apt to get into the secret stashes he keeps around.

Brawley's is a very cool little beer store. I've been in hundreds of times & Michael (owner) is super cool and helpful; he was pushing quality beer when you couldn't find it anywhere else in the Charlotte area. The prices are good and the selection is too.
That being said, anyone calling this a world class beer store is seriously misleading the public. This is a nice little local beer shop with killer service, if you're in Charlotte and in the area, drop by; you'll likely find something neat to take home. If you're looking for glassware, this place has a very nice selection for sale. I wouldn't make a long special drive for this store though. I understand it's value in our community, lots of good beer & kegs too, great local store.
If you are in the area - go to Duckworth's for draft (about 70 amazing taps) - right behind Duck's is a Total Wine with a nice selection of brews & also stop by Brawley's, they're all in the same small area. Combine the three and you've got reason for a bit of a drive in.

This place seemed a must-stop, based on the incredibly high score derived from a very large number of reviews. The downside of such accolades is an expectation of a surreal beer-buying experience. This establishment, while a fine beer store, cannot live up to my hopes. I guess I expected something on the order of Johns Grocery in Iowa City (this is no Johns) or West Lakeview in Chicago (again a vastly superior store in comparison to this one). Hell, City Beverage in Winston-Salem has maybe 3x the selection of Brawleys but doesn't get the 100 beerfly score...
Putting aside my preconceptions, this is a solid enough store, definitely lots of good glassware to go with the beer. Not as broad a selection of NC beers as I expected, so weird. Maybe people just don't expect so much in Charlotte?
One big plus is the service, it's run by a friendly and knowledgable guy. I do recommend a stop here but don't expect to find the beer mecca some others have described.

Well, an interesting building from the outside. Inside the atmosphere is more like a record store than a bottle shop. Mixed matched decor all over, a variety of music bumping, different, in a good way. The selection is decent but not great, some singles, mostly 6 packs. Service is friendly and knowledgeable about beer. Their is also a clearence rack with half price beers. I was also given a free copy of beer advocate magazine. Oh hell yeah.Overall a pleasant spot worth checking out.

Been to the place maybe 5-6 times now and I have never seen the owner, don't know if it is a timing thing or not, but it doesn't matter either way really. Atmosphere is okay, quiet and dimly lit. Quality is pretty good, plenty of great quality brews in the place. Selection is great, growlers, singles, six packs, glassware, kegs, imports, bombers, the works. Great. People are pretty nice but usually preoccupied with someone else. A little high on prices (especially imports) but worth the extra because it is a small business. Not sure why everyone really loves the place so much other than because they love Mike.

Charlotte is blessed with a handful of great bottle shops and this is one of them. Selection is everything you would want it to be. I do not tend to go there very often, so i do not rank high enough to get the limited allocation beers from here, but that is fair. I understand supporting your regulars. An employee lied to me once about whether they had a certain beer. I would much rather have been told that the beer was a limited one and saved for regulars, but i understand why i did not get it. Service can range from the very top of the city to poor. I have been treated great and I have been ignored. It is hurt by the fact you cannot drink here and all the other places, that I think of as great bottle shops in town, have bars as well.

Visited October 2011:
This is a very unassuming place, from the looks of the place from the outside, one doesn't think that the place will have much to offer, but once inside...there is more than enough to satisfy any BA. I recently visited while on a business trip and while I didn't pick anything up, they had a nice selection of NC beers and others from around the region and the prices seemed about right, at least what I thought was comparable to stores that I buy from in Atlanta.
I was there the day that Founder's Canadian Breakfast Stout was released and evidently spoke to Mike's mother for a bit. She was knowledgeable about the beer scene around Charlotte as well as the inventory of the store. I thought that the place could have been a little better lit, but overall, a good store.

Went there for the first time yesterday and met the guy working (already forgot his name) but he was very cool and very helpful. Gave me some advice on beers to try (I came for the Hopslam). I have always heard good things and so I went back today (for the Hopslam) and actually met Brawley who seems like a great guy. Encouraged me to come back and try some of their other selections which I intend to do. They seem to get a lof the hard to find craft brews. Definately the place to go in CLT and surrounding area.
