The last growler filled at Old Hat. Shared by someone at Kuhnhenn Winter Solstice. Served in a plastic cup.

A - A thin white foam settles to a thin ring of bubbles, leaving spotty lace behind. Dark brown body.

S - Smells like peanut butter alright. There's some waxy Christmas chocolate, and jammy sugar flavors in there as well. Enjoyable on the whole.

T - Taste isn't as good unfortunately. It's actually a bit bland, with jelly and sugary sweetness mingling with caramel and chocolate malt flavors. Not as much peanut butter here.

M - Creamy medium body, lower carbonation, a touch watery, and no alcohol presence.

D - One of the top peanut butter beers I've had I suppose, but that's not saying much. It was enjoyable enough to refill my glass a couple times, but I'm not broken up that this brewery is closing.

Peanut butter plus chocolate stout.

I guess I don’t have much more to add to this review right now. This sure ain’t poetry.
Beer reviews can be like that sometimes.

On tap at the Uptown Grill

A: Deep brown, just like you would expect. Thin head.

S: Smells like a less chocolately peanut butter cup.

T: Tastes like it sounds. Peanut butter nose with a stout finish.

M: Medium body. Creamy.

O: It was just what I expected it to be: a PB stout.

On tap at kalmazoo beer exchange

A dark body with no head.

S- great smell of roasted peanut butter. I can't get enough. So fucking good.

T-smoother peanut butter than I was expecting and not as good tasting. It dominates, which isn't necisarily a bad thing but not as bad as others have made it out to be

M-medium body and smooth

O- good beer that I would llike tto have again.

Everything these other two reviewers said is true. It's incredible how much this beer smells like peanuts and peanut butter. I've never had another beer that was like it.

That said, it's not an easy beer to drink. There's a lot of sweetness, and it reminds me of a Reese's cup. People who like really sweet milk stouts might go for it, I guess. Otherwise I can't recommend it, except to marvel at how much peanut flavor Old Hat has captured here. I wonder how the hell they made this beer?

On draft (Kalamazoo Beer Exchange)

Pours almost like a dark amber beer, with foamy off-white head that did not hang out long and left little signs of its existence.

I was kind of amazed that it actually smelled like peanut butter. To be specific you can smell the difference between peanuts and peanut butter and this has a peanut butter aroma with vanilla and coffee also present so it was a rather odd combination.

The flavor followed suit with the aroma pretty closely. The peanut butter stands out first with vanilla and coffee present in the background. The biggest issue with this beer is that the flavor is too powerful. I am one for flavor, but there is too much here and it almost wears you out. Even after a few sips the amount of peanut butter flavor is tiring.

The body is a little on the thin side. Having "peanut butter" in the name triggers the thought of creaminess in the beer, but that was not delivered.

Overall this beer is drinkable but needs some work. I like the idea and there is potential

Thin brown body, very light and relatively clear for a stout. One and a half finger off white head is perched atop. The head recedes rather quickly leaving limited lacing behind.

The aroma is all roasted peanuts. This is not your Jif peanut butter, this is fresh roasted homemade peanut butter. I am impressed by the amount of peanut they were able to pack into the aroma. The down fall is the aroma is very one dimensional. Outside of the peanuts there is nothing.

The flavor is much like the nose but does manage to pull in some supporting flavors albeit very limited. The peanut flavor is prominent thought not as strong as in the nose. Very soft brown bready malt and slight roast settle in behind. I was really hoping to see a bit more roast and caramel paired with the peanut flavor but it was nowhere to be found.

Very thin bodied stout with moderate carbonation. More viscosity and some creaminess would have done wonders for this beer.

I like the idea and I like the peanut flavor, outside of that I walk away disappointed. This would be better labeled as a peanut butter porter though the body still may be a bit thin for that style too. I think this beer would be easy to improve upon, as it sits now I will not be revisiting.
