22oz bottle, nice to see an amber ale from this outfit make it northwards, and I anticipate a still rather hoppy affair (that's called foreshadowing, ladies and germs), from my experience with this brewery thus far.

This beer pours a mostly clear, medium copper amber hue, with three fat fingers of puffy, loosely foamy, and generally bubbly ecru head, which leaves some streaky malformed lace around the glass as it very, very slowly abates, like it's on island time - I've been to Bend, and there are no islands in that particular bucolic river.

It smells of semi-sweet bready caramel malt, toffee pudding, muddled, but still affable dark orchard fruit, a hint of earthy yeast, brown sugar, a subtle cherry cola otherness, and peppy leafy, weedy, and grassy hops. The taste is more bready, grainy caramel malt, a lessened biscuity toffee sweetness, gritty dark sugar, some plum and muted black cherry fruitiness, oversteeped tannic black tea, a weird chalky candy essence, and more leafy, piney, and ethereally citrusy hops.

The bubbles are quite low-key and unobtrusive in their plain Jane frothiness, the body a sturdy medium weight, and generally smooth, with a nascent airy creaminess arising as it warms. It finishes on the sweet side, the now pastry-adjacent caramel malt showing little interest in waning, as it needs all its strength to fend off the surprisingly not so prevalent hops - psych!

A decent enough amber ale, the malt the star of the show here, with the fruity hops aiding and abetting, and even providing a tangible offset. Easy enough to put back, I suppose, but not something I could see having more than one or two of, before my predilection for Deschutes' more hoppy and heady offerings beckoned me with their siren call.

The appearance was a nice hazy looking dark red color with a decent two finger white foamy head that must last for a good minute and a half. The head turns a bit lumpy on me with a slightly off-white color to it. There is some decent lacing. The smell had some nice bitter Northwest piney hops backed up by a nice crisp craker-like maltiness. The taste was mainly bitter but added a nice citrus to malty sweetness as it warmed. There’s a decent bitter to somewhat sweet citrusy aftertaste leading to a semi-dry finish. On the palate, it sat at/about a light to medium on the body with a decent sessionable aspect to it. The carbonation actually is somewhat smooth and for the most part is pretty good for the style and for me. Overall, this is a good American Amber/Red ale worthy of having again.

Unknown vintage; drank 10/15/15 on (nitro!) draft @ Fischman's.

See-through dark orange appearance.

Off-white nitro head; frothy lace.

Pine & orange citrus notes in the nose.

Creamy, medium mouthfeel.

A smooth mix of pine, cream & orange citrus flavors. Easy to drink.

From bottle, pours a cola/reddish colour with a good white head that disapates to a soapy layer. Aroma malty, grainey, sweet, slight citrus and pine. Taste toffee, caramel, not over powering hops but it is there piney and citrus.

Overly hopped. Not as 3 dimensional as I was hoping from Deschutes.

This is a well put together red ale. Had it on a nitro pour. I enjoyed the balanced elements here and the overall profile. Caramelly malts and biscuit blend with the decent but slightly muted hop elements. The nitro piece helped this go down smoothly.
