Served in a 16.9 oz goblet.

Appearance: Dark murky brown. Barely any head, just a nice ring of tight tan bubbles around the edge of the glass. Very noticeable alcohol legs.

Smell: Sweet maltiness and alcohol hit immediately, followed by the dark fruits, plums, figs, and raisins.

Taste: Very sweet! Tons of dark fruit notes just like the smell. Not too much alcohol bite, which is surprising for 10% ABV. Though there's a good bit of alcohol warmth on the finish. The hops were barely perceptible, but that was expected from a 2 year old beer.

Mouthfeel: Fairly light to medium body, with a nice crisp finish from the very light carbonation. Kind of surprised by the whole mouthfeel on this one. I was expecting something completely different.

Overall: Very, very good brew! As I said mine was aged for 2 years prior to drinking so it was amazingly smooth and sweet. Nowhere near as boozy as I expected it to be, would for sure buy this brew again.

At the time of this review, this beer is the #18 beer on the "Top Beers - American Strong Ale" list on beeradvocate.com. Served in a tulip.

Beer is brown and hazy with a nice two finger head of small tan bubbles, lots of lacing, moderate to low carbonation, not aggressive looking or overly carbed but nice.

Aroma is huge, I can smell it without picking up the glass. Malty sweet, strong booze.

Beer is sweet and light in body, thinner than expected. Beer has this mild roasty finish, a little dry but good. I'd have it again.

This bottle has now been through the ringer. I brought it to a tasting over at Huhzubendah's place a few month ago and we never got around to it.

My intention was to bring this beer to a tasting at some point. I got tired of waiting.

I got this beer over a year ago from harrymel. Thanks Harry!

Served in a snifter.

A: Poured a dark, dark, dark brown, with a little baby soft head that amounted to a mere ring around the brew.

S: I got a tinge of hoppiness, sugar, Belgian funk, and a bit of cocoa.

T: I got an very cool fruit component on this in addition to the caramel, malt one. Sure, I got a bit of booze, but that mesh well with the rest of the ingredients.

M: I got just the right amount of prickle and sweetness. Also, the lacing was mild to nill.

O: Why did I wait so long to pop this one? Probably because I thought there would be an opportunity to present it at a tasting, but alas... there were none.

22oz bottle from scotchboy. Shared with inebriatedjoker. One I've been eyeing for a long time, thanks Dan.

A: Comes out a mahogany brown but collects in the glass a near-black. Very big light-brown head. Looks murky.

S: Raisin, toffee, fig, some red wine grape. Quite a mixture of malts in this, good stuff. Some wet paper and real light barrel notes. Mainly dark rum soaked fruits here with some bits of cherry and brightness.

T: It gets complex here, more than the nose. Plum, fig, raisin, vague cherry. These flavors run into a couple other different directions with a powdery mix of dark & milk chocolate, and a sherry-like finish. I'm assuming it was the pinot influence affecting this, but this beer is really dry, it also affects the chocolate making it appear more powdery. Faded hops start to peak out a bit. Alcohol is hidden well.

M: Plenty of carbonation, heavier medium body. Bone dry.

O: I wasn't sure what to expect with this. I assume this is a good point to drink this one, maybe just a bit earlier. A real complex beer that deserves a good chunk of time to savor. I wouldn't recommend drinking it cold, or by yourself, but shared with others it is a real treat.

A: Translucent black/dark brown with two finger head that descends into thin /thick frothy lacing, great carbonation.

S: Raisins, dark fruit caramel/toffee, chocolate malts.

T: Dark fruits, red grapes , caramel/toffee ,roasted malts, biscuit, bittersweet chocolate, slight red wine hints.

O: Overall a sweet beer that is very drinkable without overpowering the taste buds , It hides it's abv% very well and goes down dangerously easy, Worth a try and glad I had a chance to try it - Thanks again Steve.

Two year old bottle, properly cellared, poured into a Gulden Draak flute. Pours a dark red-brown amber with a finger of fine light tan head. Looks nice. Aroma of roasted malts, dark fruit, cherries, hint of vanilla and oak, also nice. Flavor is dark fruit, plums, cherries, sweet malt. Finish is sherry like, but not vinous, hints of pepper and cinnamon. Very complex and beautifully integrated. Medium to heavy, creamy body. A really superb ale, wonderfully done.

Live tasting, poured into a Delirium tulip...

Appearance; pours a root beer brown, ruby colored at the edges and a murky reddish brown when held to light... One finger khaki color head that quickly fades to a ring with minimal lacing...

Smell; I pick up hints of raisins and dark fruits and a little of the barrel but not much beyond that...

Taste; taste is much the same as the smell, with the slight addition of red wine notes although fairly unimpressive and quite mellow given the alcohol content... I'm not sure the age has treated this very well...

Mouthfeel; relatively thin, with only a slight amount of carbonation, goes down smooth with a slight raisiny bitterness that doesn't seem to hang around for long... After the bitterness fades a silky texture seems to coat the mouth...

Overall; an average brew all around, certainly nothing groundbreaking... I feel like this would have been a much more impressive beer at release, Im not sure age has treated this very well although it is well past the "best after: 1/29/11" date, and I would probably have enjoyed the cloying, boozy raisin bomb that others have described quite a bit more than this.

The beer appears dark brown colored with a small head that leaves some random lacing on the glass. The aroma offers caramels, oak, booze, fruity malts. Smells nice. The flavor follows suit, with a mild sweetness that never becomes overpowering. Well balanced. Delicious and easy drinking. Beautiful caramel flavor. Alcohol content is well disguised, with just a light, pleasing warmth in the finish. Overall, a terrific beer. Recommended.

Pours hazy dark brown with red-amber highlights and virtually no head.

Aroma is rich dark fruit sweetness - notably date and plum. Then woody oak notes come in and bring complexity. Alcohol heat has an undeniably presence.

Taste is similar to the nose. Brandy soaked dark fruit and chocolate sweetness, along with generous caramel and toffee. Aromatic vanilla oak notes make an appearance and bring a woody dryness. Finishes with a vague spice quality.

Mouthfeel is medium-full. Slightly on the syrupy side.

A big alcohol soaked, relatively sweet beer with interesting flavor complexity. Quite fruity and woody. A solid offering.

Poured a deep dark reddish brown with a light ring of head that seemed to linger.

The smell was very raisony and dark fruit and a bit of woodyness, almost dark belgian like.

The flavor is nicely bready and malty with a bit of dark chocolate, lots of dark fruits and very raisony. A bit of molasses and brown sugar as well, a bit on the sweet side.

Very thick and chewy with very light carbonation levels.

Its good, but nothing really exciting, just a big malt bomb.

Picked up a waxed bomber from AJ's in late February 2010 for $12.99. Been sitting on this in my wine fridge since then. Looking forward to this one!

Beer poured a cola brown with a one finger head that has been reduced to floatsam in quick fashion.

Nose is wonderful; red wine, raisons, and mocha are quite pungent.

Taste is dark fruit, dark cocoa, and a nice malt base balanced by a nice compliment of northwest hops. Alcohol was only present on the first sip, and at that it was not of taste but my physical reaction of my ears warming (don't laugh, it sometimes happens with bigger beers!)

Mouthfeel is medium bodied and somewhat smooth.

Overall this brew is a souped up version of Jubelale which is one of my alltime holiday ale favorites. It is everything i hoped it would be. I have another bottle that i will try to save for a couple of years.

22 oz wax top bottle poured into stemless red wine glasses. Been waiting a long time for this, wanted to drink something special for New Years.

A: A very dark brown, lots of carbonation. Minimal lacing but no head to speak of. Looks almost like a coke.

S: Smells of fruit, grapes or raisins. Maybe some cherry. Also burbony. Reminds me of DFH Raison D'extra.

T: Follows the smell but has a bit bitter almost coffee like taste. Waiting for it to warm up...This is fairly complex. Different layers of fruit, spice, hint of bitter or coffee. Mostly get raisins.

MF: bubbly, little sticky.

OA: Its not one of my favorites but it is good. It really reminds me of Raison D'extra but less raisins.

Enjoyed this one on Christmas while watching the Clipper's opening game. Lets go Clippers!

Poured from a bomber into a RR snifter...

A - Pours a deep brown with ruby hues and a one finger khaki head that dissipates almost immediately. There is no lace to be had...

S - Caramel, toffee, dark fruits, a good amount of alcohol, and some tart notes...

T - Caramel, toffee, chocolate, and a hint of figs. A little vanilla/oak also make an appearance. Finishes with some lingering chocolate, figs, and a smooth alcohol warmth. Alcohol comes across alot smoother than I was expecting from the scent. Also not picking up any of the tart flavors I detected in the smell. Delicious...

M - Nice and creamy medium bodied feel. Carbonation is on the lower side...

O - Was going to sit this one for a while longer, but i'm glad I decided to open it. Drinking very well right now. Deschutes comes through with another top notch special release...

A: Pours a dark brown color with a small golden/tan head on top. Not much retention and spotty lacing.

S: Some vanilla and caramel, a little bit of brown sugar and molasses with hints of dark fruit.

T: Upfront some nice caramel and brown sugar and a little toffee. The back has more of a chocolate and dark fruit flavor, quite nice.

M: Full bodied with low to medium carbonation. Very faint heat from the alcohol, hits when the liquid is in my stomach.

O: A really nice beer. Glad I have another bottle to sit on and see what happens to it.

Slowly I have collected up 4 bottles of this beer from Bifs, and extras in trades. Thanks to my Secret Santa 2011 Mulder1010 and Crushedevol for sending these bottles my way. Sadly my memory fails me and I cannot remember who else sent me a bottle. Anyhow thanks guys!

This beer was chilled and was served in a wide mouth goblet. A bit too cold to begin with but after a few minutes its ready to rock.

A- The body is a murky dark brown. The head of the beer is light tan coloration. No real retention and doesnt withstand my mustache. No lacing noted.

S- Vinous notes waft across my olfactory senses. Vanilla, caramel, nugget, burnt caramel, toffee, molasses and brown sugar ride into an undertow of dark undefined fruityness.

T- Very sweet push of burnt sugar, caramel dipped red grapes perhaps even some beet sugaryness. A little astringency similar to vermouth or a gin like after taste. A bit of alcohol but not much else.

M- Full bodied low carbonation but works well with the body. The alcohol is a little hot but not bad in the least.

O- The beer is sweet but not cloying. Not bad but its missing something to my taste. Perhaps a little more time in the bottle will aid this beer.

deschutes doesn't provide much info on this brew -- apparently it was aged in pinot barrels? it is a swarthy, earthy, malty brew -- and i associate this type of beer with belgian styles.... but alas, it is an AMERICAN STRONG ALE. i wonder what yeast strain was used hear...

the pour was a bit disappointing, with little effervescence, only yielding a thin little tan foam that dissipated rapidly. the look of the ale is heavy -- dark brown, tint of amber, opaque. not unappealing, just not exciting.

the smell is not extraordinary, but i do get a hint of the barrel aging that has occurred.

the flavor is excellent. slightly spicy, maybe from the barrel aging, and a very deep complex and malty brew is revealed. there is a very nice hop bite, even at a year+, complementing the wonderful, apple/molasses/piney malt base with a dose of raisins and dried cherries.

i wish i had a regular jubelale to compare it to, but i still haven't seen it around this year.

100% worth the try if you get a chance .

Bottle poured into two tulips. Part of the first tasting partners bif haul.

A- Pours a fairly dark brown with some red highlights. A nice off white head slowly dissipates, leaving a thin cap. Little lacing is left behind.

S- Sweetness is upfront with notes of caramel, toffee, molasses and brown sugar. Dark fruits follow with raisin, fig and black cherry. Hints of oak, roasted malt sweet booze.

T- Plenty of sweetness with caramel, toffee, molasses and brown sugar. Dark fruits emerge again with oak, vanilla and roasted malt. Finishes with notes of red grapes. (Perhaps from the pinot barrel aging?)

M- Medium carbonation and a rich syrupy body. Alcohol is hidden pretty well. Has a slightly sweet and dry finish.

O- Age has mellowed out this beer, with the alcohol not being too noticeable. The pinot barrel aging treatment wasn't too noticeable and it gets a little too sweet after a while, but overall I'm glad I got to try it.

Whoa, incredible stuff! I let it warm a bit out of the fridge and then poured a glass of huge thick, foamy, frothy, sudsy, light tan head and lots of lace. Color is a very cloudy orange brown. Aroma is heavy on dark ripe fruit, yeast, toffee, malt. and a hint of cocoa. Flavor is similar to nose, but in some odd way, more muted and balanced; all of those characteristics are there but in a seamless whole. Body is voluptuous and carbonation is spot on. Finish is like flavor, with an emphasis on yeast, longish, and without much alcohol. Good and gnarly.

A: A murky, dark brown color that's almost entirely lacking in head. That's all I've got to say 'bout that.

S: Whoa! I've been sitting on this bottle since it's release hoping it would cool down. It hasn't. Almost overwhelmingly boozy but and with a dark undercurrent of fruit and malt. I'm gonna wait for it to warm up a bit before continuing.

Ah. Much better. A nice deep, dark pool with fruit, caramel, and a hint of bourbon. Also a bit of oak coming through as well.

T: A sugary combination of caramel and toffee(?). Definitely the slightest hint of roasted something hiding in the back, but it's got a lot of that dark sugar and plum. Definitely still some booze, but better now than when I had it fresh.

M: Good body, and nicely smooth (aside from the heat of course).

O: A really good beer, typical of the reserve series. That said, it can use another year and it's ever-so-slightly on the boozy side for me.

A - Almost jet black with only a slight brown coloration. Thin layer of light tan colored head.

S - Incredibly strong scent of molasses and roasted malt. You can smell the alcohol a little as well it seems like.

T - Soft bitter cocoa and coffee flavor of roasted malt mostly. Hints of plum and bourbon. Not as harsh as I was expecting since it has been aged for about a year.

M - Slightly watery, which was kind of a disappointment. Low amount of carbonation.

O - A great strong ale, still, just slightly disappointing because it is not as thick and flavorful as I was expecting.

Poured cola brown with garnet highlights and a finger of light khaki head. Gentle aroma of nutmeg and spice, caramel, and fig.

Moderate carbonation and a full, very creamy mouthfeel. Dark fruit and toffee biscuit up front followed by oaky vanilla with some light tannin bitterness, mild earthy spice, and a little bit of warming booze.

Always been a fan of regular Jubelale and this one was certainly a special treat -- a touch sweet but with a nice complexity and well-balanced flavors. Really nice brew!

Appearance is dark brown w/ a small off-white head. Its` nose contains raisins, carmel, spices, malt. The taste is a mix of toffee, molasses, roasted malts and dried fruits. It is a very enjoyable taste, without being overpowering in any aspect. Mouthfeel is full bodied with a medium carbonation level to it. Jubel 2010 was a very good beer and I am glad that I had the opportunity to enjoy it.

Appearance – A very dark amber red. Head is a finger thick, and disappears after a few minutes.

Smell – Unusually sweet for a strong ale. Not quite brown sugar, molasses, or honey; maybe a sweet bourbon or port with caramel. Definitely some oaky red wine notes as well.

Taste – A sweet bourbon is the first thing I notice. Also some oaky red wine. A bitter bite is also present that I’m not fond of, which remains in the aftertaste.

Mouthfeel – A light burn from the 10% abv. Creamy and very lightly carbonated. Very syrupy if swooshed in your mouth.

Drinkability – A decent strong ale, but a bitter aftertaste detracts from the drinkability.

A - Dark amber beer with honey colored head. Quickly subsiding head

S - Dark fruit aroma with alot of plum and fig. Vanilla, oak and maple syrup coming through.

T - Plum and custard sweetness. Tartness of the pinot comes through in the back. Medium body, with a juniper-like bitterness.

M - Medium body with alot of tannin. A delicate carbonation is here, leaving you to desire the next sip.

O - Interesting beer. Very tasty. So many contrasts here make the beer desirable.
