On draft at the Deschutes Brewpub, Portland, Oregon.

Poured a deep black hue with a one finger foamy white head. There was good retention and lacing,

The smell featured a citrusy hop and a touch of dry coffee.

The taste consisted of a full blown citrus hop with an abundance of roasted barley at the finish.

The mouthfeel was typical of the style.

Overall a unique hop forward IPA.

Black IPA: A new style for me, this is in fact a dark IPA. Top fermented with insane hops but with dark roasted malt. Insane Jack!

A - almost bock or dunkelweiss in appearance. Medium head.
S - lots going on: citrus, malt, oatmeal, cafe au lait
T - like a berry/citrus cocktail with a dose of roasted coffee
M - medium body with great presence of hops
D - goes down balanced and easy without oppressive tannins

A surprising style, and on I enjoyed. It tastes like a dunkelweiss or even a bock but with some unique characteristics. Please someone else try this beer and review it because I sound insane on my review (lemon and oatmeal and coffee?!?!?!?)
