Served on-draught into a pilsner glass at the Muddy Pig in St. Paul. Reviewed from notes taken earlier this month.

A: Pours a half finger khaki colour head of nice cream and thickness and average retention. Body colour is a clear copper. No yeast particles are visible. No bubble show.

Sm: Amber malts, pumpkin gourd, spice, clean malts, and caramel. An average strength aroma.

T: Amber malts, spice, a bit of pumpkin gourd, and subtle caramel. Nicely refreshing. Brilliantly balanced and quite tasty. More complex than many beers in the style.

Mf: Smooth and wet. Ideal carbonation for the style. Crisp and clean. Excellent thickness. Luscious and chewy. Quite good.

Dr: Very drinkable and enjoyable. I'd have it again. A wonderful festbier from Deschutes. Quite tasty and well executed for the style, but still lacking the needed complexity or special elements to elevate it to a truly remarkable brew.

Imperial pint at Ventis Taphouse in Salem. Deep copper coloured beer, small off white head. Aromas of biscuity malt and hazelnuts, hint of grassy hops. Nice smooth caramel flavours,grassy hop bite in the end. Nice enough on the palate..smooth ,lowish carbonation Very enjoyable marzen.

I had this on-tap at the Muddy Pig in St. Paul. Served in a standard pint glass.

Appearance: Pours a clear amber color with a layer of off white head. The head fades to a ring around the pour.

Smell: Sweet grain with some fruity undertones. I'm also getting some mild caramel malt. Quite clean.

Taste: Caramel malt up front with a strong hop bitterness. The hops and malt balance each other out quite nicely. The overall has a mildly fruity component with a bitter finish.

Mouthfeel: Medium body with aggressively tingly carbonation and a dry finish.

Overall: This one is simple but quite good. There was more bitterness than I expected, but I enjoyed it quite a bit.

Deschutes Brewery--Bend, OR--Oktoberfest . 5.00% ABV. 25 IBU's? Thin lacy head. Clear pretty bright gold color. Crisp pilsner like hop front. Mellow sweet slightly tangy zesty Pale Marzen Fest body. Hint of lingering malt mild citrus tangy Fest end. (4.0 / 5.0) 5 oz. Taster @ Fremont Oktoberfest 9/24/2010.

This beer was served at the Deschutes Public House COLD; much colder than their ales, which is true to the German lager style. The color was deep golden, light amber with a two finger offwhite head and minimal lacing. The nose was all traditional German yeast, the restrained marzen smell. It has a very smooth malty taste and the hop profile is amongst the most restrained I have tasted in any Deschutes beer. It has a very medium-bodied mouthfeel, crisp in part due to its serving temperature and yet very smooth and rounded. Moderately drinkable.

Much like Deschutes' Bond St. Brown, the Oktoberfest is a seasonal offering best noted for its luminous, sensual color. In this case, this Vienna-style lager is clear gold and luxuriously radiant. It was served to me with a few islets of head that soon vanished, leaving no lace in their wake.

This celebratious brew is defined by grainy malts with a distinct Germanic bitterness profile derived from German perle and northern brewer hops. Oktoberfest is a worthy if enigmatic pilsner with a light grassy aroma and yeasty flavor.
