Deschutes has not disappointed me so far. On to Obsidian.

Out of the bottle, this brew pours extremely dark for a single stout, dark, dark brown that comes so close to black. A one-finger, mocha-brown head sits atop and takes a minute to trail off. Lacing left on the glass is mildly sticky and splashy.

A deep inhale of Obsidian reveals a thick, rich milk chocolate aroma, complemented by a very mellow roastiness and a nice, round coffee aroma. A little brown sugar and molasses reside in there, too.

Well, that is probably the most well done and tastiest single stout that I've imbibed. Just the right amount of roasted malt and bitter hop flavor lands on the sides of my mouth, while a rich chocolate and molasses package lands squarely on my tongue. The finish has quite a bit of a coffee-esque bite on the whole of my palate and pairs well with the rich sweetness.

A rich, full feel lands on my palate with each sip, accompanied by a very nice bite from the roasted malt and hops. Great body, great bite.

This is a really great stout. While only 6.4% a.b.v., it has a more in common with an imperial stout than a single in terms of appearance, flavor, and feel. Very full, creamy flavor and feel. Delicious.

12 oz bottle. best before 09-30-13.

A: pours really really dark brown. head is a coffee hued brown. frothy. very frothy. head has great retention

S: a lot of bitter dark chocolate. a decent amount of espresso. this thing really does walk a fine line between bitterness and sweetness, with bitterness taking the edge. not getting much hop aroma, but I could care less. this thing is all about fantastic dark aromas.

T: similar to the nose, a dry bitterness starts off the flavor. very similar to dark chocolate. more bitterness in the middle. a little bit of dark coffee, but this body is very close to dark chocolate. finish is, you guessed it, bitter.

M: subtle and creamy. this think on nitro would be tits. medium bodied.

D: a very well-made American stout. lots of dark aroma, however a bit one-note on the flavor end. not that it is a bad flavor so you are not gonna catch a lot flack from me. if you like stouts, definitely check this brew out.

12 oz bottle, best by 10/14/2013

A: Creamy tan head, body that's blacker than night. Nice retention.

S: A little booze, dark chocolate, roasted malt.

T: A great example of the style. Similar notes as the nose, maybe with more chocolate and a little bit of espresso. Toffee sweetness lingers.

M: Chewy, a little sticky. Nice carbonation.

O: Fantastic stout for the price. Need to get this one more often.
