On-tap at Max's Belgian Beerfest
The glass was served to me with a clear, deep brown color and a small white head. No lacing or retention were noted. The aroma is strangely roasty with some caramel and funk. Sort of like a sour dubbel. Following the aromas perfectly, the smell is also strangely roasty with a lot of caramel underlying, which adds some sweetness and perhaps hints of sour? It's very interesting. This had a medium body, was carbonated well, and was decently drinkable. Interesting but forgettable.

Max's.
A: The wild ale has a copper color punctuated with some red highlights. Fairly transparent as well with a thin white head.
S: The nose has a light grape finish, with the requisite sour cherry aromas up front. A sharp citric tartness hovers over the ale, lemony and funky.
T: The lemony tartness leads off, a tastebud flattening sourness that finishes as dry as you'd expect. Before that dry finish, sweet white grapes with a dry tannic finish come through. The ale feels thick, deceiving so as it goes down very easily.
M: The dry tannic finish, paired with lighter sweet grapes, makes for a sweetness that cuts into the funky sourness. A good start to the day.

On tap at Max's during their annual Belgian fest.
The beer pours a reddish, copper amber color with fair head retention and light lacing. The nose is intriguing, as I pick up light cherry, almonds, plum, wine and light sour (I'm already loving this a lot more than the regular wild undressed). The flavor profile generarlly replicates the nose, with the wine and light sour dominating. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, with a fairly long, wine and sour finish. Alcohol is pretty much unnoticeable.
There's still more sour in this beer than I generally like to see, but there's enough other stuff going on in the aroma and flavor profile to keep me interested. Not really my cup of tea, but still an interesting beer to try.
