Notes:
This is traditional style of altbeir from Düsseldorf, Germany. Alt literally means old in German. Staying as true to the recipe as possible, the Headwall Alt is brewed using German malts, plus German and American hops. Like the Pale Ale, the Headwall Alt is cold conditioned, dry-hopped and krausened in the bottle or keg. Similar to the Pale Ale, the process takes about 30 days.

Deep brown in color, clear. Small but lasting head.
Toasted malts with a touch of hop aroma.
Nice balance--dark malt up front, crystal and a little chocolate. Hop bitterness takes over quickly and lasts through the aftertaste. The body is typical but the carbonation seems to be slightly high.
This is an excellent offering in the world of brown beers. I'd love to compare this (German) to a traditional English brown.

A - pours a deep almost completely opaque brown with ruby highlights. Two fingers of khaki foam on top which dissipate quickly.
S - smell is rather grainy and toasty. Notes of cereal, caramel and a touch of cocoa. Ripe cherry juice and raisiny fruit esters round out the nose.
T - lightly sweet caramel and buttery toast up front. Center is equal parts juicy and bitter with a pleasant European hop profile and raisin fruit esters. Finish is toasty and warming.
M - creamy buttery mouthfeel. Medium carbonation.
O - nice beer. Not up to the german alt style at all but a pleasant American brown ale variant.

Poured into a pint glass. There is a nice dark brown color with slight amber hues. The head is full but only a quarter of an inch; it's light tan.
The aroma is very nice. There is a nice sweet burnt caramel aroma.
The taste is has a milder than expected influence from the darker malts, leaving a lot of more pilsner malt type influence with a nice grassy hop finish that isn't bitter. This is one of the smoother beers I've had in a while.
This is light to medium bodied with medium carbonation. This beer exceeded my expectations; I've never had a beer from Tuckerman's before so I'll have to make it a point to try more.

Enjoyed on tap at The Thirsty Moose. A bold tasting malt with nutty elements of a brown ale. An acidic tartness, unexpected.Sweet malt in the aroma. Very dark red and lacey. A bit watery. Not so drinkable, maybe another place another time would yield better results.

Pours Medium brown with a true foamy white head. No lace. The foam head is about as light as air, and gives it a bit of an odd appearance. Some major bubbles coming up as well. Could be a glass of Coke.
Some toasted malt and earthy notes.
SUrprise -- I liked this. Good toasted malt with some dark grainy flavor, almost texture. A light sourness appears, but it is a good interference with any of the sugars in the malt. Then, this dries out, with medium bitterness. First part of the sip is uneven, then levels out. This has a few levels of flavor, and in the end is quite refreshing.
Medium bodied with some substantial carbonation.
Overall, a nice surprise. A few flaws, but it still works. A good one from these guys.

12oz bottle into an Allagash chalice. Notch on label states October, I'm guessing for 2012. Ah well, to the review!
The body of this alt is a deep brown with a nice white cap. The head sticks around for a bit and leaves behind some good lacing.
Aromas mostly of roasted malts which makes for a pleasant nose. Some light hops in there as well rounds it out pretty well.
Taste resembles the nose with loads of roasty maltiness. Caramel and roasted nuts are the most prominent. Some lingering bitterness but nothing to overwhelming. Good balance if nothing else. Medium in body and carbonation with a good smooth finish.
Good solid beer from a brewery I don't know a ton about. If I see another sixer of them around I'll probably be picking it up.
