American Pale Ale (APA) |  5.50% ABV

Availability: Year-round. bottle (114), on-tap (22)

Notes:
Our flagship Pale Ale, released in 1998, is brewed with specialty malts, some grown in Maine, and four types of hops. After fermentation, it is cold conditioned and dry-hopped in lagering tanks for maximum taste and quality. It is naturally carbonated in the bottle or keg using a German process called “krausening”, where a small amount of fresh fermenting wort is added. This produces a delicate carbonation and superior flavor. From the Mash Tun to store shelves is a 30 day process.

look: 3.75 | smell: 3 | taste: 3.25 | feel: 3.75 | overall: 3

Appearance: Pours a golden, caramel straw color…fairly transparent, I can see tons bubbles, this is a very lively brew…head is just off white and settles to a nice thin layer…(3.75/5)

Smell: An earthy yeast and citrus hops up front…I’m getting some orange, lemon and grassiness bitterness…it’s got a noticeable yeast which isn’t surprising seeing how carbonated it poured out of the bottle…tons of earthy tones, a very mute sorta smelling brew...there’s also the expected “pale” malt smell…moderate aroma here though…(3/5)

Taste: Grassy and yeasty right off the bat…it’s got a grassy bitterness that comes and lingers throughout…it’s not overly diverse in flavor, a fairly straightforward pale ale with a European influence…there isn’t any real sign of citrus that I picked up in the nose…earthy, pale and grassy basically sum this one up…(3.25/5)

Mouthfeel: Light with tons of carbonation…this brew fluffs up bringing a cloud of grassy, earthy bitterness to the palate…very light, refreshing and crisp…grassy bitterness lingers well into the after taste…(3.75/5)

Overall: This is an interesting brew…it’s got good flavor, but it lacks in depth for me…the pale malts are accentuated by really any other flavor than yeast…with that said, the flavor is very drinkable and has a light, refreshing quality that suggests I could drink several of these during a nice summer’s day and remain competent…if you like brews that are easy going, or if you are attending a summer outdoor engagement, then this beer may be a good choice for you…it’s a nice pale ale, it just needs a bit more…(3/5)

Served on tap in a pint glass.

Appearance: Reddish amber color with a thin white head.

Smell: Not much for smells, some hops and faint pine notes.

Mouthfeel/Taste: Smooth medium bodied. Taste of mild hops and citrus.

Overall: Decent brew, average beer. I would drink it again if offered.

A - pours a rusty amber color with hints of gold towards the bottom of the glass and fairly thick white foam on top. Decent retention.

S - the aroma is faint. citrus zest and white grapes are most prominent. Hints of caramel and toasty grains in the background.

T - sweet caramel and toast flavors up front. Sweet and bitter collide in the center with notes of citrus and earthy bitterness while white grape juice flavors add more sweet character. Finish is snappy, quick and dry.

M - lighter side of medium bodied. Slightly watery texture. Carbonation is on the lower side.

O - alright pale ale. I like how crisp the finish is but the grape juice sweetness doesn't agree with me at all.

Crisp, refreshing with a nice hoppiness and clean malt taste. Well balanced, without much aftertaste. This is not a strong, flavorful brew, but would make an excellent session beer. This is a good one to take camping, or to throw in the cooler for a backyard barbecue.
