This was a pretty good beer. Strong hints of caramel and malt. Appearance was very nice to the eye. A perfect amber color. A nice head forms and has good retention. well done from the brewers. many years of practice has paid off in a wonderful beer!!!

Picked up this one my last trip to Der Berliner Kindl in Black Mtn., NC. $5.50 for one swing-top .5 liter bottle. Poured into a chilled tulip glass.
Appearance 4.0: Unexpectedly pours out a deep, golden-brown. Half-inch head quickly dissolved into fizzy, CO2 foamy residue.
Smell 3.75: Nice bouquet. Deep barley notes and a slight sweetness. Very subdued.
Taste 4.00: Front is a dry and refreshing. Middle is where some slight hints of caramel-barley sweetness creeps in and delights the palate. Finish is where some unexpected hints of raisins, wood rosin, and caramel barley sneaks in. Aftertaste fades away quickly and in a refreshing way.
Mouthfeel: 4.0: OK level of carbonation and is clearly 100% CO2.
Overall 4.0: Dry, smooth and imminently sessionable, this beer would also be excellent with food. I could see myself downing more than one stein of this bad vogel next time I get the chance.

Holzar-Bier has a thick, cream-colored head and a dark, reddish-brown appearance, with some bubbles clinging to the side and a small amount of lacing left behind. The aroma is of dark-roasted malt, brown bread, sweetness, and tea. Taste is of old, sweet, malt, dark fruit, like prunes, and almost no hop bitterness. There is also the tea note in the flavor. Mouthfeel is light to medium, and Holzar-Bier finishes wet, sweet, and fairly drinkable. Overall, this is a very good beer, and I would say that it's worth a try.

The color is a beautiful deep amber. It looks like a fine glass of Scotch. Nearly no head.
Smell is sweet, reminiscent of caramelized fruit and raisins on dark, whole wheat bread.
Flavor is light up front and strong in the back, peaking as you swallow. There is a healthy proportion of dark cereal grains and bourbon without the alcohol profile. The "bourbon" is light, as if it were a cup of watered down vanilla and wood.
Feels light, with a slight tannic kick in the back during the finish.

Pours a clear golden brown, generous head that dissipates quickly. Malty aroma - this bottle had a mash smell to it, somewhat metallic (it traveled far so may have suffered a bit as a result). Taste is similar to many dunker lagers - surprisingly light and refreshing, with a slightly bitter aftertaste (and metallic with this bottle). Bready and malty in the background. A good example of the surprisingly light dunked beers that I have tasted from Germany.

Clear brown color with about a finger of clingy white head. Toffee, fig jam, and caramel malt on the nose. subtle earthy-dirt like hop.
Very clean, medium bodied with faint carbonation. Rounded sweetness and creamy mouthfeel. Same flavors in the mouth that are on the nose but everything is subtle and proportionate. Finishes clean and crisp. Delivers clean malt taste without being over bearing and without lingering sweetness while remaining refreshing. Simple but good. Very refreshing actually.
