Notes:
Our flagship. This is a classic British pale ale with a nod to the legendary beers of Burton-on-Trent. Copper-colored, dry, clean, and crisp with lots of late hop taste, in an appetizing complex with ale fruitiness from imported Hampshire yeast. Original gravity - 1047; alcohol by volume - 4.5%; two row English malt (pale, crystal and chocolate); Cascade, Mt. Hood, Tettnang and Fuggle Hops.

Amber color with ample head, gorgeous lacing, and good carbonation. The smell is nothing short of the glorious, ale fruitiness they promise in the notes. The yeast and hops combine to give character to classic malty ale flavor. The mouthfeel is a little medicinal and bitter due to some of those West Coast hops added in, but overall this is much closer kindred to a true traditional English style than any West Coast APA I've had. Geary's wins exceptionally high points for knowing exactly what they're doing, then doing it. This is how solid craftsmanship tastes - so far, among my favorite ales made in the United States.

12 oz bottle poured into pint glass.
A: Poured a copper color with a good fingers worth of head that settles quickly to a thin layer with a little spotty lacing.
S: First thing I'm getting is a rich sweet malt with hints of caramel and toffee with little hints of woody hops. Kind of earthy.
T: Taste is alot like the smell... Sweet malt with notes of caramel and toffee up front then there is a touch of spicy hops with a little bitter finish.
M: Medium bodied, with a crisp carbonation feel. Odd mix.
D: A pretty average style English Pale.. All the right notes here, nothing to stand outish.

Poured from 12oz bottle into a pint glass.
Appearance: medium orange-brown hue with a haze-free body and a pretty strong effervescence. Head is a finger of frothy light-tan foam which has pretty good retention. I think it's a good example of the style.
Smell: mild malty aroma with a definite bready, biscuity character; not typically my favorite malt flavors. Hops are not really discernible here.
Taste: biscuity malt flavor which is relatively dry. An earthy hop character is present here, and bitterness is balanced and comes in right at the end. Overall a very earthy effect; perhaps not my favorite in a pale ale like this, but not objectively bad.
Mouthfeel: medium body with a good level of carbonation and a decent creaminess.
Overall: some of the flavor choices in this beer just don't suit my palate; however, I think it is a good representation of the style and worth trying if you come across it.

12 oz bottle was poured into a pint glass.
Appearance: The beer poured a one finger head that has reduced to a small foamy layer. It is a copper amber color with good clarity and bubbles coming up throughout the glass.
Smell: fruitiness, bready and caramel malts, and slight citrus aroma.
Taste: very similar to the aroma and a little bitterness towards the end.
Mouthfeel: smooth, crisp, a little chewy, medium carbonation, and medium bodied.
Overall: A solid pale ale that I have enjoyed over the years, especially up in Maine. Will be drinking more in the future too.

Geary's Pale Ale is a very clear, very sparkling amber ale with a smooth, dense, yellowish cream that leaves outstanding lacing. The aroma is grainy, papery, medicinal and herbal, kind of like an Irish ale. It's pretty light bodied, smooth and lively with a slightly watery finish. I taste light, toasty malt. The herbal hops are lightly bitter. It tastes like it smells with some added fruitiness. It's similar to an Irish Red and makes for an acceptable session ale.

12oz stubby twist off bottle to pint glass. Sampled 8/31/11. No date or ABV listed on the packaging.
A: Two fingers of a fluffy cream-colored head billows just over the rim of the glass. The medium-light copper colored body is magnificently clear. Semi long lasting fading into a sudsy film and collar. Spare lacing.
S: The malt character brings about notes of grainy bread and caramel with a little toffee that firmly identifies this brew as an English-style Pale Ale.
T: Very little hop presence provides requisite bitterness but not much else. Caramel, toffee, light plum and perhaps a cola-like sweetness and feel.
M: Medium body with a texture approaching creamy but low[er] levels of carbonation add a syruppy quality.
O: Not my style but a nice change of pace. Happily purchased while vacationing in Maine. Drinks around 5.5% ABV.

Great dry hops flavor and pale ale personality, esp. if you're looking for one in the lower-ABV range which I sometimes am. Taste is not as complex as Sierra Nevada Pale Ale (which is an APA, not English) and the aroma is not as rich, but a great American beer nonetheless. Great pic. of a lobster on the label and a great regional beer, the likes of which seem to be dwindling every year.

A: The beer is clear copper in color and has a moderate amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a half-finger high light beige head that died down leaving a thin layer of bubbles covering the surface and lacing running down the sides of the glass.
S: There are light aromas of fruity yeast in the nose along with some hints of floral hops..
T: There are flavors of toasted malts in the taste along with notes of caramel.
M: It feels medium-bodied on the palate with a moderate to high amount of carbonation.
O: The beer is very easy to drink and is quite sessionable, especially given its low alcohol content.

Appearance is reddish brown. Poured from bottle into a pint glass. Nice head of about a couple of inches.
Odor is pretty slight. Maybe a little citrus and some floral.
Taste is pretty good. It is nice and smooth for a pale ale. Only a small amount of hops aftertaste.
Feel is a little above average. Not all that outstanding. Light on the tongue and carbonated.
Overall a nice beer. Good taste and pretty well balanced.

A: Poured from a bottle to a pint glass. Had an amber color and a clear consistency. There was a small amount of foamy head that quickly dissipated. Not a whole lot of lacing.
S: A slight amount of hops, with some malt and grain as well.
T: Tasted of light hops, bready malts, and a little bit of grain. This is a pretty good imitation of an English Pale Ale. It's a solid, but very subtle flavor.
M: A good amount of carbonation with a crisp and clean finish. Medium-bodied.
O: A solidly made, drinkable beer.

12 oz bottle poured into a snifter · fridge temp · 2011
Appearance: Pours a nice copper color with a 2" tall, cream colored head. Great retention, some spotty lace resides.
Smell: Very malty, lots of caramel malts, shifter more towards an amber or brown ale than a pale ale. I guess it's considered an English Pale Ale though. Faint biscuits underneath and some earthy hops too.
Taste: A crisp beer. Nice balance between malt and hops, all of which are obviously English in derivation. Spicy, earthy hops flavors and crispy, malty, bready, caramelly flavors.
Mouthfeel: Crisp, smooth, amply dry, and palate cleansing (clean). The booze is apparent, which is odd for a 4.5% beer.
Overall: I like this one, but not enough to snag it off a shelf if I ever saw it. English Pale Ales aren't necessarily my favorite, though this one stays true to the style.

A: Pours a copper color with a solid 2 fingers worth of head that fades fairly quickly into a tiny cap
S: Some malts, backing hops, and the typical smell associated with ringwood yeast
T: A very nice crackery malt at first, followed by some balancing earthy and spicy hops and the ringwood yeast. Not too complex, but very well balanced
M: Light-medium bodied with moderate carbonation
O: This is a very solid English pale ale that is extremely enjoyable any time of the year. Easy to drink, too, which makes this a solid brew all around

Poured from a twelve oz bottle into a pint glass.
Pours a slightly darker amber (than the Hampshire) with lighter foam, lacing around the edges. Darker malty smell. All malt in the nose and in the taste. Some sweetness. Classic English pale taste, very mild and balanced. Smooth too.
Good beer, simple and tasty.

Pours a slightly hazy orange with a huge tan head and lasting lace. The aroma is fruity with hints of caramel. The flavor if of malt sweetness followed by a bold, hop bitterness that lasts through the bitter aftertaste. It's got a medium mouthfeel. Gearys Pale Ale is barely drinkable, the hops just overpower it. Not recommended.

Enjoyed on-tap at Rupununi in downtown Bar Harbor, ME.
A - Nice 1 finger width off-white head which lingers nearly to finish leaving a very nice lacing on the glass. Beer is a deep orange to copper hue.
S - Light malt, biscuit, mild herbal hop aromas; the most disappointing aspect for me.
T - Malt up front, then bitterness in the finish. Overall well balanced
M - Medium mouthfeel, very smooth, hops linger pleasantly
D - Overall, very easy to kick back with a few of these with friends.

I can't believe I haven't reviewed this yet, as i like less then 5 minutes from the brewery.
Poured a 12oz bottle into my Allagash tulip.
A classic amber color with a very nice sticky head. The head stays and laces very well. the head stays with a good cover to the end.
The aroma is pleasant, English pale, malt up front, biscuit and slight almost citrus earthy hops in the end.
The taste starts with malt
The mouth is smooth but quickly the carbonation builds. The malt makes a smooth film on the tongue as the carbonation subsides. A slight bitter and clean finish.
This is one of my go to pales but don't expect an American pale

Short 12 oz Brown bottle---->Pint Glass. No Freshness date.
A: Pours a semi clear copper color. With a nice sticky off white head. Retention is good with some nice lacing.
S: A really complex aroma of herbal hops and thick malts.
T/M: Malt flavors are balanced well with the herbal hops. Bitterness is a little dominant, but doesn't really hurt the overall taste to much. Goes down smooth with a pretty clean aftertaste, especially as the brew warms slightly.
O: An above average APA. I'm very happy with my first Geary's brew. I see this one in my future drinking.
Cheers!!

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a Gritty's pint glass.
The color is a clear gold/amber with a finger and a half of foamy white head and some nice lacing.
The smell is malty with some earthy aroma that is sweet but piney as well. The hops seem to tease just a bit here.
The taste is has an interesting bread flavor. Some nice caramel malt flavor comes out as well. There is a nice creamy flavor that seems to come out just a moment toward the end and makes a little smooth and a little buttery.
The feel of this beer is lighter then expected and has a nice drinkable feel. It goes down well and have a good aftertaste that does not linger.

12 oz dark brown bottle. No freshness date.
It pours an orange-hued amber with a light beige fluffy head, with some trailing and spotty lace. An earthy aroma, with caramel malt, slight fruitiness, resinous hops. Edgy bitterness, slightly fruity with some caramel sweetness. As in the aroma, the hops have a resinous bite. Medium to light bodied with spritely effervescence. Fairly good impression of an English Pale ale!

12 oz. bottle. Pours copper color, with huge, thick, foamy, white head and lovely carbonation. Aroma of bready malt with some earthy hops in the background. Medium, tangy body, slightly sweet. Taste is bready malt and grape fruit nicely balanced by earthy hops. Long balanced finish. It would not be my first choice of Pale, but still nice brew.

Clear orange/amber with a light beige cap, good head retention, a bit of spotty lace. Earthy aroma, caramel and malt, slightly fruity, light citrus and grassy hops, quite English in character. Solid bitterness, a bit juicy up front, fruity with some caramel sweetness. Slight herbal hop flavour. Medium to light bodied with moderate carbonation, decent texture. I really liked the flavours in this, more bitterness than an English pale ale but with a lot of the character.

Thanks to papollo for this bottle!
Hmm, I wonder if this beer would go well with lobster? Oh well, I only have a burger. It'll haveta do. The beer pours a clear amber topped by over a finger of white foam. The nose comprises the starkly simple dichotomy of sweet caramel and flowery hops. The taste is very similar, though the flowers and caramel are now joined by a light orange, complete with bitterness from the peel. The body is fairly light, with a light carbonation and a dry, almost grainy feel. Overall, a nice pale, nothing overtly exciting, but a very drinkable li'l brew.

A- Pours a light brown with a one finger off-white head. The cap is creamy and has decent retention, it is made of fine bubbles. A creamy ring leaves some fine lace.
S- A bit like a Brown Ale/English PA to me. Slightly nutty, toasty malt with dark fruit overtones. Slight adjunct feel to it.
T- Bready notes, caramel malt, nutty and dark fruit hints up front. Hops lend floral/herbal, citrus and some pine.
MF- Creamy light body with smooth carbonation. Very slight bitterness in the finish.
DB- The flavors come together pretty well and make this one more like an English Pale Ale, darker (fruit, malt) than I expected. Refreshing and goes down smooth.
