Notes:
Our flagship. This is a classic British pale ale with a nod to the legendary beers of Burton-on-Trent. Copper-colored, dry, clean, and crisp with lots of late hop taste, in an appetizing complex with ale fruitiness from imported Hampshire yeast. Original gravity - 1047; alcohol by volume - 4.5%; two row English malt (pale, crystal and chocolate); Cascade, Mt. Hood, Tettnang and Fuggle Hops.

Poured from a bottle into a shaker pint, the beer is a vibrant, honey-copper coloring with a thin ring of white head on the surface. Aromas of rich, tangy sweetness, with toffee, honey, and nut making up the bulk of the nose. Hints of roast in there, as well. Flavors are rich and malty, with a roasted overtone. Biscuit backbone, with toffee overlays and a hops bitterness at the end of the palate. Light and smooth in mouth, with a semisweet and bitter aftertaste. Clean finish, with a subtle tangy sweet linger. Very easy to drink, and not overpowering despite some heavier flavor profiles.

12oz bottle poured into a pint glass.

A: Clear amber-orange color with darker reddish hues. a creamy looking off-white head never slips below two fingers. Clumpy patches of lacing show some good stickage.

S: Toasted grain, toffee, caramel, buttery. Hops are floral and grassy with a hint of tobacco. Slight lemony zing.

T: Caramel, molasses, shortbread, toasted grain, slightly woody. Big buttery smack. Touch of marmalade fruitiness. Salty minerality. Hops build toward the back end with an herbal/tobacco taste and ample bitterness. Long finish of toasted malts, butter, and some oily hops.

M: Hefty medium body. Full, creamy, slightly slick. Tingling carbonation caresses the tongue.

O: It's a very well-made English style pale ale; put it on your short list if you're into the style. It tends to get overlooked in these parts, and I'm not sure why given the success of similar beers like Whale's Tale. Maybe the brand just needs a little more visibility? Then again, Geary's does seem to be a pretty polarizing brewery as a whole.

Amber color with ample head, gorgeous lacing, and good carbonation. The smell is nothing short of the glorious, ale fruitiness they promise in the notes. The yeast and hops combine to give character to classic malty ale flavor. The mouthfeel is a little medicinal and bitter due to some of those West Coast hops added in, but overall this is much closer kindred to a true traditional English style than any West Coast APA I've had. Geary's wins exceptionally high points for knowing exactly what they're doing, then doing it. This is how solid craftsmanship tastes - so far, among my favorite ales made in the United States.

12 oz bottle poured into pint glass.

A: Poured a copper color with a good fingers worth of head that settles quickly to a thin layer with a little spotty lacing.

S: First thing I'm getting is a rich sweet malt with hints of caramel and toffee with little hints of woody hops. Kind of earthy.

T: Taste is alot like the smell... Sweet malt with notes of caramel and toffee up front then there is a touch of spicy hops with a little bitter finish.

M: Medium bodied, with a crisp carbonation feel. Odd mix.

D: A pretty average style English Pale.. All the right notes here, nothing to stand outish.

Poured from 12oz bottle into a pint glass.

Appearance: medium orange-brown hue with a haze-free body and a pretty strong effervescence. Head is a finger of frothy light-tan foam which has pretty good retention. I think it's a good example of the style.

Smell: mild malty aroma with a definite bready, biscuity character; not typically my favorite malt flavors. Hops are not really discernible here.

Taste: biscuity malt flavor which is relatively dry. An earthy hop character is present here, and bitterness is balanced and comes in right at the end. Overall a very earthy effect; perhaps not my favorite in a pale ale like this, but not objectively bad.

Mouthfeel: medium body with a good level of carbonation and a decent creaminess.

Overall: some of the flavor choices in this beer just don't suit my palate; however, I think it is a good representation of the style and worth trying if you come across it.
