Finally cracked one of these open the other night. Bottle poured into NB globe, medium to dark brown with a tiny off white head. Smells like raisins, coconut, inviting oak, sweet unfermented malt sugar, a bready yeast, and a touch of alcohol. Taste is very good, one of the better BA barleywines I have had. Very sweet malt balanced by woody oak and some vanilla and bourbon. Finishes with some coconut and dark fruit flavors. Heavy body and a very light carbonation. A very smooth and drinkable beer, an excellent example of the style. This is one of the best beers Flossmoor has made in recent memory and even young this beer is very good. I can only imagine how much smoother this will be within a year or two.

Bottle shared by kermis. Dark caramel pour with almost no head. Smells like bourbon, dried fruit, vanilla. Tastes like bourbon, dried fruit, toffee, sherry. Medium body, low carbonation and a bourbon heavy finish.

Amazing NBS Bif #2 Offering from @Prager62
Thank You for digging into your cellar to share this gem with me.
Bottle marked “Batch #2 02/12
Pours a deep burnished mahogany. Slight cocoa brown head forms and retreats. Light lacing. Aroma is, Wow! Definitely coming out with bourbon, dark baker’s chocolate, some oak, and toasted caramel.
Taste is amazeballs. Bourbon definitely in the front and middle, but it lets a lot more shine through. Dark chocolate, caramel, a hint of date, a hint of char, and some heat. But all of this gracefully ebbs and flows. This sipper wants to hang with you and tell a long, lovely story. At times, a little peppery nip at the tongue comes through for just a moment. Is it the rye? Is it some leftover hop contribution. I don’t know, but it adds to the mystery, and it’s deliscious.
Mouthfeel is full and round, yet a tad creamy.
Overall, I was elated to finally try this one. I’ve had it on my list for a few years. Lived up to hype…and then some.
