The Dead Mule started as a private club to allow cigar smokers a haven where they could enjoy nice alcohol (Chapel Hill bans smoking in most public restaurants). The cigar crowd demanded a nice liquor selection. Everyone else benifited from this choice.

The scotch selection is excellent. Prices on good scotch are the best in town. The deck is a nice place to enjoy a scotch or a cigar or god forbid a good beer.

The beer selection is limited to bottles, cans or nitro-cans. The selection leans towards the other side of the pond. Mostly Imports, but good imports. There are a few microbrews as well. I would certainly give this place a shot if you're around for the spring or fall when the weather's nice. If you hit the place at a slow time you can usually talk the bartender out of the 'private club fee'... But don't tell anyone I said so.
