This traditional Oktoberfest beer is brewed to be enjoyed throughout the fall. Big malt character is balanced by noble hops and a dry finish. Prost!

Pours a slightly hazy dark copper color with ruby red edges and a one finger off-white head that slowly settles into a lasting ring. Streaks of lace left behind.
Floral, earthy hop aroma with a surprisingly strong malt backbone. Grassy with subtle pine needle character countered by a strong caramel malt presence as well as some toffee and biscuit.
On the fuller end of medium bodied with a stronger hop presence than the aroma suggests. Still has a very strong malt profile which dominates the flavor. Really surprising coming from this brewery. Slightly dank and sticky but the hop flavor is a touch one dimensional and is overpowered by sweet and slightly roasted malt notes. Grassy and floral with some dry bitterness countered by prominent caramel malt flavor, toast, toffee and biscuit. The ABV is well masked making it easy to drink but it's a bit bland for my liking.

Served in a pint glass for $5.75. Sampled 11/9/10.
A: Arrives with a half finger of off-white head that disappears quickly leaving only a thin foamy lace behind. Spare scraps of lace cling to the glass but look like they'll be sliding back down soon. The body has a amber-brown appearance and is 60% opaque
S: The nose is pretty safe and boringly lager-like. Low level of grassy, floral hops. Caramelly malts. Somewhat steely. The twist comes once the beer opens up a bit, bringing in aromas of orangey-lemony zest to compliment the light tang.
T: My first sip tasted oddly reminiscent of what the inside of a refrigerator, I'd imagine, would taste like. The rating here started at 1.5 and thankfully improved by two full points as the tanginess begins to pull out the combination of flavors.
M: Medium body with an absolutely perfect level of carbonation, lively and tingling. Finishes crisply.
D: [DRINKABILITY] While the beer is ok, the scores suffer because there is nothing interesting to offer here. Surely Bear Republic can do better than this. Nothing offensive, just nothing special either.

ON tap at Hollingshead's in Orange CA - served in German stein. Deep amber color - very much to style. Little head on this one. Nose seems muted...a bit of sweet malts.
Nice, crisp entry - sweet, apple malty taste jumps in...builds out biscuit. A little bit of spicy component - probably from a light hop bill. This works - provides plenty of flavor and hits on most of what you expect for style...and just a little more - a little more in mouthfeel and bittering (though not very bitter - just more than most O'fests)
Nice beer with food.

Had on tap in a standard pint glass. Pours hazy dark amber with a small off white head.
Smells malty and sweet. The sweet seems to be a defining characteristic of this beer to me. Lots of malt but almost a sugary nose.
Taste follows suit with a malty flavor, nonexistant hops and a lingering sweet taste.
Mouth feel, despite smelling sweet, is not very heavy. Actually this pint went down pretty fast.
Overall, seems like it would be a good beer for people who aren't into hops. It's malty with no bitterness. It's good but I'm not sure if I would order it again though. It would have to be along with a pretty sad draught list.

Had this on 2011-10-09 at Bull's Head in Litiz, PA (from notes)
A - Mildly-hazy, dark amber with a 1-finger head and mild lacing.
S - Mild grain and a hint of spice
T - Tastes great with caramel malt, nuttiness, spice, orange citrus and an appropriate amount of fresh hop (leafy) flavor and bitterness.
M - Medium body and carbonation. Smooth.
O - A tasty fest beer. I'll have it again.

On-tap at Beachwood I,
A: Pours amber with a medium off-white head, some lacing.
S: Sweet Munich malt, with a hint of roast.
T: Has that Fest malty tasty with some nuttiness and some roast, a little too much for the style IMO. Some grassy noble hopping in the finish.
M: Medium-bodied, frothy carbonation, fairly smooth, hint of alcohol.
O: Still looking for that really great West Coast Oktoberfest, but I'll keep trying any I can find. C'mon CA. In the end, an enjoyable solid example of the style, nothing more.

I had this on tap at the Vine St. Pub and I would have liked more info about it suhc as whether it used fresh or wet hops. Based upon the name I assume it must. The color was dark orange and oily on the top, sticky lacing too. The flavor was really minty and herbal hops, I was intrigued. I swear I also tasted licorice too. This was good and unlike any lager I've had.

I had a sixteen ounce draft of this at the Amsterdam Ale House in Manhattan's Upper West Side. It was a great Octoberfest, one of my favorites, I believe. Dark caramel color with a good amount of carbonation (a couple of inches). Smell was of german malt with a very slight hop aroma. Flavor was great, slight dark fruit but not so much to be unrefreshing. I was able to enjoy this a number of times over the month.

On tap at Capone's.
Pours a medium brown with some rusty int. Nice off white head and moderate lacing. Smell is a bit plain with some doughy malts and hints of herbal hops. Taste is better as the malt becomes pronounced and picks up some slight caramel flavors and lots of bread. Hops are of the earthy, herbal variety. Mouthfeel is nice--light to medium body with good carbonation. Good drinkability and one of the better Marzens I've had, which seems to be happening more lately.

Served to me in a tulip glass I get a very nice deep copper coloured beer with an off-white head which is leaving some nice lace on the glass.
There's some fruit in the nose, malt, obviously, and good whiff of hops.
The taste is good at first but I'm getting a residual metallic flavour which is a little off-putting. Leaving that asied it's a pretty good beer - malty, rich, nice dry finish and with more bitterness than I normally find in this style.
Good mouthfeel, medium-bodied, not too heavy.
There are better Oktoberfests around, but not too many. This one seems rather more hopped and bittered than others I've had although it's listed at only 25 IBUs.
