Peter Brown Tribute Ale is malty American Brown Ale, brewed with molasses, brown sugar, and hopped with Cascade and Centennial. It's just the way Pete would have wanted it.

A: small head with scattered lacing on a deep clear amber body.
S: aroma is mild with caramel, hint of toffee and milk chocolate
T: this one seems a little watery. Caramel malt base with nuts, hint of citrus hops, earthy notes, semisweet toffee and
M: thin, light to medium body and moderate carbonation. Clean and mildly crisp.
Overall: this one seems under flavored and watery but I guess it's fine for the style. Low ABV but still barely tastes like alcohol is even in this one. Drinkable and better than most in the genre.

A - Pours with a small head of off-white foam on top of a clear, brown body with amber highlights.
S - Toasty malt and a hint of chocolate with a bit of spicy hop character.
T - Thick, dark bready malt up front with some brown sugar and molasses in the middle. A bit of piney hop character shows up towards the finish and moderate bitterness works nicely to balance the thick malt.
M - Medium-thick body, moderate carbonation, and a somewhat sweet finish.
D - Nicely done, this isn't an India brown ale by any means, but it is a bit hoppier and better balanced than most sweeter brown ales. Nothing over the top going on here, but it is flavorful and quite drinkable.

Reviewed from notes. Poured from bomber into a Russian River pint glass.
A: Pours a clear, deep brown, with a half-finger of light brown head and moderate visible carbonation.
S: Low aroma overall. A bit of roasty, caramel, and brown malts. And that's about it.
T: Toffee and some caramel bready malts, hints of spices, and a light hop bitterness.
M: Lighter body for a brown ale, medium carbonation sensation, and the alcohol is well-hidden.
O: It's put together well, and no real flaws...but nothing exciting either.

On cask at Rattle N Hum. Pours a dark brown color with over an inch of frothy head. The aroma is malty and boozey with some brown sugar and caramel. Tastes malty with a nice alcohol presence which is surprising since the ABV isn't all that high. Some sweet brown sugar. Creamy mouthfeel. Works well on cask. Overall, nothing special but a good Brown Ale.

6.3% ABV confirmed. Acquired at a local SoCal beer store. 1 pint 6 fl oz brown glasss bottle with branded pressure cap served into a Uinta pilsner glass in me gaff in low altitude Los Feliz, Los Angeles, California. Expectations are above average; this is a surprisingly tough style to pull off but Bear Republic makes some great beers.
Served straight from the fridge. Side-poured with standard vigor as no carbonation issues are anticipated.
A: Pours a four finger khaki colour head of nice cream and thickness, and pretty good (4+ minute) retention. Soft smooth consistency. Body colour is a rather dark amber. Semitransparent and semitranslucent. Generally appealing for a brown; there are no overt flas here. Nothing unique or special. Looking forward to trying it.
Sm: Huh. Not what I expected, though not in a bad way. Some sort of weird berry. Are we certain Lost Coast didn't brew this? More nuts come through as it warms. Hazelnut, chestnut. Dark malts. Little hop character. No yeast or alcohol comes through. It's not a great aroma, but at least it's got nutty notes - which is what I look for in a good brown. An above average strength aroma.
T: Decent nutty notes. Amber malts. Light toasted character. Light floral hopping. This is pretty simple stuff. No yeast or alcohol comes through. It's not bad, but it's just plain pedestrian. There's little here that interests. Decent flavour. Balanced, if bland. Built alright. Why brew this? A bit too sweet and sugary - especially for a brown. I get some brown sugar.
Mf: Smooth and wet, just as it should be. Adequate carbonation. Decent thickness. It's a bit syrupy; that molasses might have been a bad call. Decent body. Complements the flavour in a general sense.
Dr: Drinkable but forgettable. I definitely wouldn't pick this one up again. Hides its above average ABV okay. Pretty mediocre stuff considering the pedigree of the brewery. I'll finish this bottle, but I wouldn't recommend it to friends. Mundane.

I've already firmly established that Bear Republic handle hops well, but how will they fair on a maltier style? Very well, actually. Tribute Ale pours brown. Yeah, a brown pour for this brown ale. The aroma is rather straight-forward, offering a slightly nutty robust maltiness. The taste follows, but with some hops not as susceptible on the nose offer a deep earthy, resiny character that compliments the malts very well. The mouthfeel is on the light side of medium and gently carbonated, and the drinkability is great. Overall, Bear Republic do a great, fairly traditional brown ale.

This is a big brown bear of a beer
Full on chocolate nose bearing down in the aroma front
with a dark matted body with just off white teeeth (head)
Big deep flavours that put the best of my own countries brown ales to shame.
Good mouthfeel and carbonation.
If there was ever a beer brewed to my passing away, if it a quarter of the worth of this amazing ale I will rest easy.

Poured from a 650ml bomber bottle. Poured a light brown with red tints. Lots of enticing chocolate, caramel, toffee and vanilla notes on the nose. The mouthfeel is nice and round and balanced. The palate offers flavours of strong dark fruit, coffee, toasted marshmallow with a good bitter backing.

From 12/18/12 notes. Had this on tap at Beery Authority in NYC. Have passed this up before, glad to get a chance to try it now.
a - Pours a very dark mahogany brown color with once inch of off white head and moderate carbonation evident.
s - Smells of roasted malts, nuts, caramel malts, sugar, dark fruits, chocolate, toasted malts. Nice nuts and chocolate, I like the nose quite a bit.
t - Tastes of chocolate, roasted malts, caramel malts, toasted malts, burnt malts, nuts, sugar, dark fruits. More chocolate and less nuts, I think I like the nose slightly better, though the taste is still quite good.
m - Medium body and moderate carbonation. Pretty smooth and easy to drink.
o - Overall I thought this was a really good brown ale; really glad I got to try it. Some nice nuts in the smell and chocolate in the taste, with caramel throughout, and easy to drink. Would definitely order it again.

T: tastes of light roastyness, a bit nutty some caramel, a bit of brown sugar, and some cocoa powder. swallow brings a bit of alcohol, hop bite, and some nuttyness

Poured from a 650 ml bottle into a standard pint.
A: Very dark brown. Pretty heavy carbonation, lots of effervescence clings to the sides of the glass. Pours about a 1 finger, frothy, brown-white head. Settles pretty quickly, leaving an uneven beer ring as it does. Substantial beer ring lacing.
S: Hops and fresh tea.
T: Woody malt tone. Subdued, but punchy hop. Just a touch of brown sugar, tea leaves, and a bite of licorice.
M: Hearty malt, and a pungent and peaty lingering finish.
D: Goes down easy, but better savored.
Atmosphere is really good. Appearance characterized by dark body, nice carbonation, and a frothy top. Lots of sticky lacing. Nose is simple but well done. Flavor is pungent and woody, with a medium hop, and some sweet and bitter components. Overall, this is a really good quaff.

Bomber bottle poured into a Paulaner stein.
Appearance- Dark, dark brown with a fluffy white cloudy head. Streaks of red hues streaming the outside edges of the beer.
Smell- Carmel, toffee, roasted nuts and some pine.
Taste- A big nuttiness with a slight sugary malt and a citrus hop finish.
Mouthfeel- Medium body with a good amount of carbonation. Pretty standard for a brown ale.
Overall- An okay Brown ale. Is missing some of the complexity of the world class brown ales but still a good drinker.

22oz bottle into SN tulip pint glass. Purchased at Bottle Barn for $3something. Good deal.
A: Pours a ruddy cola color with a finger of soft light brown head that faded into a wispy film leaving spotty, patchy lace.
S: Nutty and malty with sweet notes of molasses, caramel, and light cocoa. I get hints of toasted bread crust as well. Not much hop.
T: Follows the nose with mildly sweet notes of molasses, brown sugar, and caramel with hints of toffee, chocolate, and bread crust. Nutty finish, with a clean sugary finish.
M: Medium-full body, smooth, fairly chewy mouthfeel, soft and clean carbonation.
O: Very flavorful and easy to drink brown ale. Malty, sweet, and pretty straightforward. Would drink again.

Pours a dark brown body with a thin, beige-colored head.
Aromas begin with some oven-roasted nutty maltiness, chocolate, black tea leaves, burnt sugar and with a distinct note of rum raisin that emerges more as it warms.
The tastes begin with toasty, chocolaty maltiness with a middling sweetness throughout. Notes of toffee, cola and earthy molasses. As it warms you get more of the raisin-flavored fruitiness and roasted nut husks. Floral hops combines with the roasty qualities and a tannic tea-like quality to counteract the sweetness.
The mouthfeel is medium-bodied with medium carbonation. Slight creaminess to the finish with some semi-dryness as well from the hops.
Overall this was a pretty successful tribute ale. Nothing too revolutionary and a bit too hoppy for my tastes as a brown ale as I lean more toward the English style, but I would revisit again considering the decent price point.

A: A garnet red pour ends up a flat black in the vessel. A bubbly, frothy khaki tinted head is slight and short in retention but leaves a modest saturn ring lacing behind.
S: A touch of fruitiness, perhaps from the yeast, mixes with some light roasty coffee and some almond nuttiness. Moderate strength.
T: Roasty flavor, sweet caramelized malt, with some caramelized brown sugars combine with vanilla laced coffee. Gentle lingering campfire minerality with some gentle burnt pine, chocolate and some smoky soil finish.
M: Nice feel of carbonation, malty, thick and viscose with a finish of lingering bitterness of pine, alcohol and coffee.
O: Overall a polished brown with a big flavor that was silky smooth and easy to down. Flavor flowed nicely together, enjoyable drinkability and worthy a try.

Poured from an undated but recently purchased 22oz bottle into a Unibroue snifter.
A: The beer is a deep dark brown color, with reddish tones. The short off-white head fades quickly and leaves only a tiny ring in the glass and a few spots of lace on the glass.
S: The aroma is a bit subtle, but has a nice and comples blend of roasted malts, maple/caramel, toffee, nuts and spicy hops.
[3.75]
T: The taste starts sweet, malty and nutty. Mid-taste has a less sweet and darker roast flavor, with a bit of molasses coming into play. The finish and aftertaste have a good sweet-bitter balance. The hops are mild but but strong enough to bring out a good balance and to add a nice layer of light spice to the flavor.
M: Despite the small head, there's plenty of carbonation, rendering the beer a bit crisp. Medium body. Finish is slightly dry. [4+]
O: An easy drinking beer, as is typical for style, but richer and slightly darker in flavor than average. Easily recommended, although perhaps a little closer to an average brown ale than I expected from this outstanding brewer. Do not serve very cold.

bomber split with gf, served in a tulip.
a - pours a deep dark brown, almost black. formed a nice, two finger, sudsy, tan head that took its time calming down. leaves big thick rings of lacing behind.
s - sweet toffee, cherry, brown sugar.
t - starts off chocolatey and bready, then dark fruity notes crop up, faint raisin and cherry. an herbal bitterness sets in to balance the sweetness, then finishes clean.
m - lighter side of medium with the right amount of carbonation. very, very smooth.
o - a fantastic brown ale, i could drink quite a few of these. given the price ($4.50/bomber), this should be on everyones must try list.

Poured from a 22 ounce bottle into a St. Bernardus goblet.
A: Ruby glints. Dark brown beer with creamy, off-white head. Good lacing.
S: Nutty malts and not much else. Typical brown ale.
T/M: I remember quite liking this on tap, so I'm a little disappointed by the mediocre beer in my glass. Thin-bodied, smooth, with a touch of caramel malt or brown sugar, but the sweetish malt base is a bit more grainy/bready than I'd like. The aftertaste is short and lightly sour.
O: Decent, drinkable beer, but not something I'd recommend or regularly purchase. If you get it, try to find it on tap.

T - caramel, toast, nutty, very mild roastyness, hints of subtle brown sugar, faint bitterness in the finish
M - medium bodied, crisp, well carbonated, very smooth
This a tasty beer. It has good flavor, it's drinkable, it's balanced, it's a great concept beer. If for no other reason than to offer tribute, I will inevitably be getting another bomber.

Purchased at International Beer Shop Perth, no best before date, imported by Pheonix beers.
Pours a very dark, almost black, brown. Small head that hands around the edges. American hops and some light toasty/roasty notes on the nose. A little bit of an oxidised dark malt aroma.
Unfortunately the taste is part american brown, part oxidised/sweet tasting dark malts. Also quite watery and a leaves a bit of a coca cola twang on in the mouth. Drinkable.

Pours a murky very dark brown with a finger or so of whitish
head. Not especially assertive on the nose. Brown sugar & molasses is about all I get.
Chocolaty note is followed by brown sugar, caramel, light toast and a hint of cashew. Vegetal note from the hops. Chocolate in the finish, hop bitterness comes on late. Thin in the mouth and a bit under-carbed.
Not quite what I'm looking for from an American Brown Ale, but definitely drinkable. By the end of the bomber I think it'll have grown on me a bit.
