12 oz. brown bottle. Has freshness date notched on side of label.

A: Pours a cloudy light yellow. Small bubbly head with little lacing.

S: Sweet with the typical adjunct aroma. A little wheat is also mixed in.

T/M: Tastes different than the smell. Much more of a malt heavy taste. Can't detect any of the typical adjunct ingredients as the malty wheat taste really takes over. Fizzy feel with a semi-dry finish.

O: Based on George Washington's own recipe. I'm happy he kept his day job. Still, not too bad as a simple lager. Worth a try.

Poured from a bottle into a pint glass. Picked up as a mix a six.

Pours a hazy orange tinged copper with little foam but active bubbles citrussy smell. Latent background. Taste is light malt, very thin, lagery. Subtle lemon flavor. Simple.

Clever concept to use this old recipe.

I will be straight forward here...this tasting is of a sample poured at a local liquor store. I dont usually review from such a small sample but this one really sparked its own review. Its almost insulting to call this a "craft" beer (and a pale ale). Just because its made in a local brewery, doesnt make it craft. This tastes like a tecate or a run of the mill macro. Just plain avoid this brew...

At least dont call it an APA, and just tough it up and all it a light or adjunct lager, then I would up a few points...

Decent starting head, but it dies out to a rim level of bubbles. No lace. Gold color with a slight cloudiness.

Strong graininess of freshly cut grass. Near lawn mower quality.

Starts off sweet but quickly becomes sour. Raw grain is the predominant flavor. Nearly no hop taste which leaves the aftertaste flat and lifeless.

Purchased by my wife, new ct beer!

Pours a golden clear yellow with a thick off white head. Tight bubbles. Looks like a pbr
Aroma of straw and light roasted grains. No hops really. A bit of bready malt and sweetness like an aal.
Taste starts slow with a sweet flaked and toasted malt flavor. Slightly sweet like a tiny bit of honey. There's a hint of hop bitterness in the middle, but it quickly yields to more adjunct-like/flaked corn sweetness.
Mouthfeel is light bodied, super high drinkability.

Not a bad beer by any means but nothing here that makes me long for another. It actually tastes more like a low hopped cream ale rather than an American pale ale. Or an actually good aal. Really easy to drink and not bad tasting, but just not for me.
The disappointing part (other than the run of the mill type flavor profile) is the fact that this stuff was 9.99 a six pack! If I can get Sierra pale ale for that price or less, why would I buy this? If the price point was better then I'd probably consider a rebuy to give to moderate craft fans when they come over.

I met the owner/brewmaster of this beer at a local grocery store. Nice fellow from Greenwich, CT.

He has this recipe brewed on contract for him.

I bought a six pack (at $10!!) because I was expecting a rich, malty ale from a bygone era.

I was sorely disappointed. During our conversation, the owner mentioned that the "tweaks made to the recipe bring it into the range of 90% of beer drinkers' preferences."

I guess that means taking a good recipe and watering down until it is almost Budweiser or Miller Lite.

This is a very disappointing brew. It is neither fish (Budweiser) nor fowl (name a craft beer). I'm sorry to say I will never buy another bottle of this beer, even if it were priced below Old Milwaukee in a can.

12oz bottle. Pours a translucent straw color with very little head. Minimal lacing. Aroma is of grains, earth and some sweet malts. Taste is slightly sweet and tangy. Malts and grains most prevalent flavors. Light and crisp. Tangy finish. While this isn't the most flavorful style of beer, it's a decent brew. Tastes like a better than most Adjunct Lager. Overall, nothing special but good enough to grab again.

From the 12 fl. oz. bottle with Mar 2012 clipped off the label. According to the the label is is based on George Washington's handwritten recipe. It is a typical straw yellow pale lager pour with a lot of long lasting head and excited carbonation. It does not smell like a beer from 1757. It smells more like a modern Adjunct with grainy, light roasted malts and sugar. The body is thin. The taste is also very much like barkey malts, slightly sweet, and crispy fresh at the end. An innocuous, likeable, and drinkable pale lager.
