Picked up a sixtel last month... stunned to see it at a distributor, so had to drop the $95.

Pours with a healthy 2-3F of cream-colored head over a hazy, deep amber body - very American. Good lacing.

Aromas were bread/yeast, sweet potatoes, and cardboard. Not too strong relative to the flavor.

Mouthfeel was pretty rich, with a good zest on the palate, and finishing creamy. This one is heavy on the malty sweetness. Lots of caramel, touch of molasses, whole wheat bread, and a nice hop kiss in the finish keeps it from being too cloying.

This one drinks like a 7%+ beer, as it's rather "thick" and sweet relative to other Marzens. If you're into the sweeter side of styles, you will really like this one (if you can find it!)

Served on tap at Pilsener Haus in Hoboken, NJ

A: Pours a clear dark orange/copper to amber in color with minimal amounts of visible carbonation. The beer has a finger tall dense light beige head that slowly reduces to a thin film covering the majority of the surface of the beer with a thick ring at the edges of the glass. Moderate amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Light to moderate aromas of toasted and caramel malts with a lighter amount of floral hop aromas.

T: Moderate flavors of toasted and caramel malts with just a hint of sweetness upfront. There is some bitterness in the finish from the floral hops. Decent amounts of complexity for the style.

M: Slightly heavier than medium bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Smooth with a light amount of dryness in the finish.

O: Probably the most enjoyable beer in this style that I have tried, and I have tried quite a few. Easy to drink due to the smoothness and very sessionable.

Pours a clear amber orange in color with light carbonation and a finger high dense beige head that gradually died down, leaving a thick ring of bubbles on the surface around the edge of the glass.
Aromas begin with light to moderate aromas of toasted malts in the nose along with notes of caramel and hints of floral hops. One of the hoppier smelling Oktoberfest's I've smelled recently.
The tastes are rather complex for the style and has flavors of toasted malts with notes of caramel and fruit. There is a light amount of bitterness and flavor from the hops as well. Once again a decent amount of hop flavor which is quite enjoyable and a nice take on the style.
The mouthfeel a bit heavier than medium-bodied on the palate and is very smooth with a moderate amount of carbonation. There are some hints of dryness in the finish. Not as easy drinking as many of the style but the much more complex and preferable falvor profile outweighs "chugg-a-bility" everyday.
Overall this beer is very tasty and definitely goes down smoothly. I could drink these all day long because the taste doesn’t get boring as many of the style do. Probably the best Oktoberfest I have ever had to be honest. Highly recommended, wish it wasn't solely available on drink. Prost indeed!

This is a kind of prototype Oktoberfest. High Point's take is true to your typical German versions. There's a solid spiceyness of brown sugar and nice floral hops that blend well with a solid underpinning of malt. This is a refreshingly smooth marzen that is exceedingly drinkable.

Found this at Keg & Lantern in Greenpoint, Brooklyn.

On tap at NJ Pilsner Haus. Copper/dark amber beer, very clear. No head...terrible pour by the extremely harried and cranky bartender.

Nicely malty aroma, somewhat sweet. Really tasty...my kind of Marzen, vivid bready/biscuity malt flavor, smooth, low bitterness, moderately sweet. Toasty bread, flowery hops that are fairly subdued but add a little bite. Full flavored, kicks the ass of many others of the style in terms of sheer flavor. May have to grab a growler of this before it disappears. It's stronger and more complex than the typical Oktoberfest so it might not be a swilling by the gallon type brew but that's ok by me.

Dirty copper orange in color with a deep haze. Poured with an impressive frothy foam that left sheets of sticky lacings on the glass. Foam slowly reduced to a frosty cap. Fresh dark grained bread aroma with a earthy floral hops. Incredibly smooth delicate feel with gentle carbonation. Whole grain and light rye malt flavors up front with light floral and citrus lemon hop character showing through in the middle to the finish. Finishes very clean and smooth with a light bready and floral hop after taste. One of the more robustly flavored marzens I've tried as far as malt character. This was excellent.

Light copper color body. Not much of a head, it may be due to the inexperience from the bartender on the pour.

I get some caramel and wheat, that's really about it.

Mostly the same as the nose with the taste but some citrus notes as well. I also get a hint of apple and cloves as well.

Carbonation is on the light side. Light body and easy going down. Feels okay.

This is certainly a easy drinking beer. Alcohol content is noticeable but not by taste. Easy drinking and fits Autumn well.

Poured into an extra large mug at my favorite drinking establishment...

A: After having a few, I've determined that an Oktoberfest beer should probably be dark orange in color. It is. Also, no head even with an aggressive pour. Check.

S: It just might be the fact that I'm having this in a bar, where odors and windages abound, but I'm smelling almost nothing with this beer. What the heck?

T: Now that I'm tasting this, I'm coming to the realization that it's a shame I'm having this beer in an extra large mug; it tastes like a**. Sweet a**, but a** nonetheless.

M: I can't get past the a**.

O: Clearly not one of my favorites. There's no power in any of the ingredients, nothing I can wrap my arms or taste buds around. Could have been so much more.

Amber hue, lasting white head, much lacing. Aroma of citrusy, piney hops and sweet malt. Perfect balance of bready malt and piney, earthy hops on the palate. Some toffee notes as well. Light, smooth body. Finish is short, but nicely balanced between hop bitterness and sweetness of the malt. Well made, easy drinking Octoberfest.

A: Nice dark very clear reddish amber color with a bit of light off colored head that quickly dissipates
S: Bready malt plays well with the sweetness malt, slight bit of floral notes
T: Nice malts play well with the light hop notes. There's a sweet malt that leads to a slight nutmeg or cinnamon taste and is followed up by the toasted bread malt. Slight bit of lingering bitterness on the back end. More potent and lush than German Oktoberfests I've had.
m: Nice for an Oktoberfest. Medium mouthfeel with good carbonation but still goes down quite smooth.
d: Great drinkability. Perhaps not as much as German Oktoberfests but the richness makes it more rewarding.

One of the best American Oktoberfests out there for sure. I guess New Jersey is actually good for something after all (just kidding).

Ramstein Octoberfest is a classical Octoberfest beer executed well. The color was brilliant amber with an orange sparkle, though the head was a little lacking. The beer smelled and tasted like freshly baked multigrain bread, with a sweetness that was almost honey like and a toastiness like bread crust. The bitterness was there for balance and was unobtrusive. Over very drinkable and well enjoyed

Served in a standard shaker pint glass. Glass of cold water on the side to sip from periodically.

Appearance: As served the beer is a bright light copper color with touches of gold reflection. There is no head to speak of, just a thin layer of swirled foam on the surface of the liquid. There is also no lacing to speak of. (While I have to mark this beer down a bit on appearance for the lack of head and lacing I'm pretty much sure that this is a result of the pour and not the beer.)

Smell: The aroma is fresh, lightly floral and malty with a nice bready character.

Taste: The flavors contain a trace of hop bitterness that softens the rich sweet bready flavor of the malt. While there's a lot of sweetness here it is kept in great balance by the light hop bitterness that keeps it under control and prevents it from cloying. There's also a lot of depth and complexity to these flavors.

Mouthfeel: The mouth feel is medium to full bodied but there is little carbonation through out most of the beer. The finish is medium in length and begins in the sweetness tinged with bitterness. The finish then fades slowly to bitter and disappears in dryness. Delightful.

Drinkability: Liking this one quite a bit. Each sip leads easily to the next. Having a second would be quite easy. (In fact I actually did order a second one but can't raise the appearance score.) I'm thinking this beer belongs on my shopping list for the future. And I think it is certainly better by far than most October fest beers I've had.

Note: On a different occasion I had this beer poured by a different bartender and as I suspected the lack of head the first few times was related to the pour. The next time around with a different bartender the head and lacing were better. So the appearance score has been bumped up a bit. The 1/4" off white head left some modest lacingstreaks that slid back into the beer. The head soon receded leaving only a ring of foam and small specks of lacing.

Pilsner glass serving revealed a thick off-white lasting foam covering a clear amber liquid that's pleasantly carbonated.
Abundant German malt aromas highlighting the Pilsner and Vienna grains.
Flavor starts malty sweet then light toast blending with a moderate hop bitterness and a long tasty final dry finish.
I really enjoyed this beer for it's immense depth and character !
