Poured into a pilsner glass at 42 degrees

Appearance: A 1 finger frothy foamy off white head with good retention...the clarity of the beer is cloudy with some yeast and effervescent particles floating within the beer. The color of the beer is a pale yellow. Overall appearance of the beer is very good.

Nose: There is a pils hop aroma that is slightly spicy and floral. The malt is very lightly toasted and a slight yeast aroma. Some underlying aromas do exist but they are too hard for me to detect.

Taste: The hops are the dominate flavor in this beer. The aroma is spicy, perfumy, floral flavor that is clean. The malt in this beer takes a backseat to the hop profile in the beer. The malt is very lightly toasted and with a very mild flavor. The yeast is noticeable but still backseat to the beautiful hop flavor.

Mouth feel: It is carbonated, slightly spicy, and coating.

Overall: The body of the beer is light and the finish is light and crisp. I have never really been a huge fan of Bayern beers however this one is an exception! The flavors is something perfect for a hot summer day and a very good beer overall. Next time I wouldn't mind taking a ride in the Tonka truck

Poured from a 12 ounce longneck into a Shaker pint glass. The label and name of this beer honor the excitement of nearly drowning after your raft tips over (what fun!!). Freshness date of July, 2013 (reviewed in late April). A moderate pour produces a 1/4 inch snow white head that reduces rather quickly, but leaves lace sticking to the sides that resemble snow ghosts. Nice carbonation. The color is a pale golden. The beer is supposedly unfiltered, but I don't detect any haze.

Hops dominate the aroma, but don't overpower. I think I detect a smell somewhat like corn mash, but I don't believe that's an ingredient. A slight tang, reminiscent of melon, is apparent in the taste, leaving a slightly sour but pleasant aftertaste. The hops lend more to the aroma than to the taste per se, but do offer a bitty bit of bitterness (how's that for alliteration?). The burps are the best part of the taste, with pleasant malt and tangy hops lingering in the nose.

The paleness and light body is somewhat surprising for a bock beer, even for a Maibock. Overall, I would say this highly drinkable beer offers an alternative for those who seek a lighter beer, particularly when the weather becomes more sultry (which, for the record, it hasn't yet where I live).

Tasted 3 July 2012 (Independence Eve?), reviewed from notes.

Pours a very pale straw yellow with gold highlights. Just a faint haze obscuring the view through the glass. Nice visible carbonation. One finger of very white, relatively dense head. Decent retention but not much lacing.

Smells of pleasant lager yeast, noble hops, and some light bready malts. For a light lager, it's quite nice, starting out full but finishing crisper and lighter.

Taste is quite a bit more malty than the smell - bready and wheaty, with a rounded chewy flavor. A touch of banana combines with the bread to yield... suprise - banana bread. It's a very full flavor, especially as it warms up.

Mouthfeel is surprisingly full-bodied for a light lager. Smooth fade-away finish. Nice.

This beer is better than I'd expected. It's full-flavored, full-bodied, and with a robust malt presence that I like. Tasty, though I don't know that I'd call it a true summer beer - it's heavier, warmer, and less refreshing than I like my hot summer day beers to be.

Poured from 12oz bottle into a pint glass.

Appearance: light golden hue with a touch of haze. Head is a thick finger of creamy, frothy white foam which leaves a nice lace on the glass. Nice.

Smell: light, sweet malty aroma with a hint of grain and a light floral component. Somewhat mild, and yet I like it a lot.

Taste: malty flavor with some pear and apple fruitiness, which I love in a beer like this. It reminds me of a light tripel in a lot of ways, which is good. Hops are floral and combine well here; bitterness is low but present. Quite good!

Mouthfeel: medium body with a very well-integrated carbonation which yields a big and fulfilling creaminess. I can dig it!

Overall: I really like this beer. I have a tendency to be partial to maibocks, but I feel like I could drink this all day.

Poured from a 12oz bottle into a pint glass in high altitude Libby, MT. Reviewed live.

A- Finger width white head with middling retention. Large bubbles, some white, soapy lacing. Cloudy orange-straw color. Clarity is low.

S- Sour malts and some noble hops. Smells like sourdough bread.

T- Sweet and sour. Has a sweet hoppiness, some sugary flavors in the first taste, and then the sour malts unfold later. Light and very drinkable.

M- Very light, wet finish.

O- Feel is weak, but everything else is average or above.

This beer poured out as a hazy looking yellow color with a clean white head on top. The smell of the beer was citrusy and not much else really... The taste of the beer was also a little too citrusy for me, I was hoping to get more malt flavors out this one but fell short of my expectations. The mouthfeel was pretty standard feeling in my opinion. Overall I wouldn't seek this one out again, I'm glad I tried it but I would go after several other summer beers before getting this one again.

Served this beer from a bottle. Not very much of a head. it is a straw yellow golden that is hazy. The smell is of some malt, with hops faintly in the background. Taste is sweet, lemon, and a nice mix of hops. Being from Missoula, I drink a lot of Bayern beers, and they all have a very similar flavor. Not sure if it is the yeast they use or what but I can always pick a Bayern beer out of the pack.

I checked their website cause this doesnt seem like a maibock at all, and they say its their take on a lager bock style, acknowledging that its a departure from the norm. They also offer an actual maibock too, so the know the word, and probably wouldnt call this a bock is it was intended to be the former. So in my opinion this beer has been mislabled.

Very hazy straw gold color, looks like a hefe. Small white head. It kinda tastes like a hefe, minus the wheat. light, zesty , refreshing, mostly sweet malt with a touch of spice. And I just noticed that drinkablility has been changed to overall?... What the?

Anyways, i'll continue to rate how i always have.

Its not a bad beer, but i will report it as being mislabeled. If it still reads maibock in the future, then you should know that thats not what youre getting here. That said, its pretty tasty.

A: Pours a slightly cloudy yellow color, nice frothy white head.
S: Smell is spicy/peppery, also has some yeasty scents
T: Sweet up front, peppery/earthy hops. Nicely balanced beer
M: Light to medium bodied good amount of carbonation.
D: This is a very drinkable beer, would be a great summer beer. One of my favorites from Bayern.

12oz picked up at Brewforia last night on the way home from work... poured into my Shorts Imperial Pint glass...

Thin 1" head dies very quickly.. the brew is surprisingly cloudy for a maibock... turbid straw golden. Too cloudy.. a bunch of sediment was left in the bottle.

Nose shows the expected pale maltiness, but it seems a bit lite.. maybe that's why it's called the "Summer Bock".... not much else going on.. but really there shouldn't be... pretty clean... maybe some background DMS.

Flavor is American pale malt .. again maybe some acceptable very lite DMS.. still surprisingly clean.. just the malt flavors are pretty low given the nice ABV.... there could be some background earthy hops in there, but my palate may be playing tricks on me.

body and carbonation are medium... could use a touch more discernible deeper malts.. and IMO more (a gentle touch) of hops.

Glad I got the chance to try this one without making the mammoth trip to MT..

This beer pours a hazy pale straw hue, with fine sediment churned up all in it, and two fingers of soapy white head, which leave a sudsy ring of lace around the glass. It smells of lightly toasted grain, mild spicy hops, and a slight alcohol warming. The taste is grainy malt, a bit of acrid citrus, soft old-world hops, and a metallic alcohol stripe. The carbonation is on the lower side, the body medium weight, a bit tacky, and it finishes dry, and warming.

Definitely on odd duck for summer time. It's a bit like the experience depicted on the label, that of a capsizing raft - I feel like I've swallowed some seawater...

12 oz bottle served in a nonic pint glass

A: Light yellow with a touch of gold. Scant white head which dissipates quickly leaving a slight ring around the edges. No lacing.

S: Noble hops on top of a rich but light very slightly sweet malt tone.

T: A perfect balance between the crisp noble hop bittering and a slightly grainy, slightly sweet malt tone. Fades off the palate leaving a mild pleasantly lingering bitterness.

M: Medium to light body, appropriate for the style. Finishes malty but dry.

D: Highly drinkable. Very flavorful but not heavy or cloying.

A nice change from citrusy hop bombs. The overall presentation is malt-focused with the right amount of balancing bitterness. An easy drinker. The hop nose is unmistakeably Hallertauer of some type.

Served in straight pint glass. Poured a light gold color with a half-inch of white head that decent retention and traces of lacing.

The aroma was nice grains, with gentle hopping and a touch of sweetness. The flavors were pretty much the same. The body was far lighter and crisper than I was expecting. Drinkability was excellent. I had this beer at at bar in Seattle, and now I'm hoping we can get these brews up here in the Fourth Corner.
