Pours a clear copper, with a finger of rich bright-white head. This maintains a robust look, leaving back lots of sticky lacing that clings to the sides of the glass. The aroma starts with a fresh combo of a floral and herbal feel, a touch of pine and then a rather prominent ripe tropical character. Gentle notes of spice, dough and fruitiness from the rye mix in here as well but they are definitely more of a complimentary feature to the hops. Fruity sweetness really stands out here in the nose.

The taste is similar to the aroma, with a lot of sweet tropical fruit flavor and a flush of rye that is a little more prominent this time. This is wrapped up in a light herbal feel, while a zesty green bitterness cuts right down the center of the profile. The finish is fairly aggressive feeling with notes of pine and spice, while a touch of herbs and rye linger on the tongue as well. The mouthfeel is medium bodied, with a firm and prickly feel to the carbonation but this does get a little smoother along the back. You get a touch of an alcohol bite with each sip but the overall ABV is handled pretty well here.

This was my second Rye IPA in about a week that went with more of a tropical fruit profile from the hops and I’m still not quite sure what to think. To its credit, I did enjoy the interplay between the fruit and rye more in this beer, even if it did leave this a bit overly sweet and fruity feeling at times. This did have a solidly crisp bitterness to it though and the body was lively enough to pop the more aggressive flavors here yet still stayed smooth in the mouth. I have a feeling that this one would have grown on me more if I have chosen to have another.
