On tap at the Iron Hill Lancaster location. This is their Oktoberfest offering with pumpkin spices added. Served in a goblet, this brew appears a perfectly clear burnt copper color with a creamy rich topping of off-white head. When held to the light, it is more ruby in color through the body with a fantastic polished clarity.
The smell of this brew is mostly caramel and biscuit-like malts. Sweet smelling with a combination of residual/toasted sugars and a bit of accenting vanilla. There are some pie-like spices included smelling like cinnamon and earthy nutmeg. A touch of herbal hops are noted with a light indication of citrus. Present enough to be known but not overdone in a way that distracts from the earthy and spiced inclusion. The spices sitting overtop the base malt really provides a collective mixture that is reminiscent of pumpkin pie.
The taste includes a pleasant backing of caramel to toffee sweetness with a touch of earthy components and a light spiced touch of cinnamon and nutmeg. Very slight buttery indication takes on a bit of a buttery biscuit aspect in this brew. Caramel sweetness for the most part upfront with mild spicing though the body and lightly into the crisp finish. The finish besides being crisp had a toasty flavoring.
This is a medium bodied brew with a modest level of carbonation. Smooth and creamy feel throughout. This was a nice balance of flavor and spice that came together to be very easy drinking. I could have drank multiple glasses of this without losing interest. Unfortunately, during our visit this was the tap line to run dry so obviously others shared the same enjoyment.
