Tap at the brew pub.

Pours a hazy orange brown color with a decent creamy head.

Nose has sweet reddish malts, caramel, light toasty malt, light lager aromas.

Taste has more sweet toasty reddish malts, some caramel, light crisp lager flavors, nice hop profile light earthy hops, a bit sweet overall and too much for reddish caramel malts.

Mouth is med bodied, decent carb.

This is an Americanized Oktoberfest, reddish caramel malts, not very light overall, no real cracked straw or subtle soft malts, but tasty, and the hop profile is nice.

Served in a tall, skinny weiss glass, I ordered one over lunch. I can't remember the exact number, but this beer clocked in around 7 or 7.5% ABV. That seems needlessly strong to me for a beer I'd want to session, though the strength doesn't show in the flavor or body.

That said, it's a fine and tasty beer that plays off the traditional, soft bready character. There's no dry toffee or bite like most O-fests have, just an easy drinking lager with light caramel and toast malts and subtle spice. It's certainly worth a try, just remember that it packs a punch.

Iron Hill's Oktoberfest is a classic example of the Marzen style - good notes of caramel malt and smooth easy drinkablility - some subtle roasted malt flavors too. Small unnoticable head in the pint glass.
Overall, this is a good brew and palatable for all beer novices and beer geeks.

64 oz growler purchased @ the West Chester location under the name "Red October", in honor of the Philadelphia Phillies October march through the MLB 2009 Playoffs. Poured into a pint glass on 10/28/09 during game one of the 2009 World Series between the Phillies and Yankees.

Pours a crystal clear coppery amber, with 2 foamy fingers of eggshell white head. Retains with a thin creamy layer that skims the surface, leaving some nice looking thick lacing behind. The aroma is sweet breadiness up front, with a toasty smelling rich edge to it. Lightly spicy and floral hops pull up the back. The Noble hop character and the breadiness of the malts really work well together here, giving this a great eveness in the nose that reminds me a lot of a delicious spiced cookie smell.

The taste is just the same, with a flush of sweet toffee and toasted malts that floods the mouth at first. This is well balanced by a firm spicy bitterness that stretches into the finish with a steady thick dryness. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with a crisp prickly feel to that makes this quite thirst quenching and drinkable.

Just a really spot on Oktoberfest here and it was definitely one of the better ones that I've had this fall. A great beer to kick off another Phillies World Series appearance with!

Continuing an afternoon of real-time reviewing.

It arrived with not-quite-a-finger of off-tan head that was quickly fading to wisps. Color was a deep orangish-amber with NE-quality clarity. BUPGOO! Nose the malty sweetness associated with the style. Was I worried? Heck, no! Paul Rutherford is the Master of Dry. Even his sweet beers have an inherent sweetness. This was no exception. Medium mouthfeel with a mild sweetness, not cloying like some, on the tongue. Finish was smoooth. Very tasty, worth revisiting.

A - A clear, amber body with a fluffy white head. Good lacing with decent retention that clings slightly to the side of the glass.

S - Light unassertive malt. Served really cold so not much aroma was found.

T - Alcohol in the front and middle. The finish holds grainy malt with a hint of floral.

M - Creamy and full bodied. A nice light maly aftertaste

D - Could defintely finish off a few of these.

A: Poured a medium marzen with coppery orange hues along with a firm but frothy 1 finger off white head that was moderatly lasting leveling to a thin whispy covering. Visible carbonation was light and sporadic composed of tightly bound micro bubbles rising at a modest rate. The lacing was good on this one as well leaving a thin speckled coating clinging to the glass walls.

S: The nose was light with not much of a malt sweetness or hoppiness detected. Very light hints of toasted caramel barely peek through with touches of freshly turned autumn leaves. Overall I just felt I would of liked more showing here, as I struggled a bit to find much to begin with. Average regards per style.

T: The flavor delivered light toasted grains, not to sweet, not to dry, but perfectly balanced somewhere in the middle. A light flowery dryness also adds highlights to the smooth caramel grains. The flavor overall is very clean, and smooth making for a easily consumable example per style.

M: light, perhaps a bit watered down lacking a good maltiness of munich. Ultimately was smooth, very easy to handle which is a plus within itself with very little carbonation felt.

D: Drinkability along with the flavor was solid per style as well. This is what I imagine a good octoberfest to be, not overly hopped, not overly sweet malt wise, but a perfect balance of lightly toasted grains and fresh flowery hops that effortlessly goes down in mass volumes and at 6.0%abv with just the right amount to do so. A definite prost worthy beer in my opinion and one I could easily drink all day. Growler worthy and one definitely worthy checking.

The beer was poured on tap into a 16 ounce pint glass. It was a dark copper in color with an almost non-existant head. The beer did leave little bits of lacing on the sides of the glass. It smelled of sweet malt and the taste followed the nose. It did have a nice clean finish. The beer was a light to medium body with light carbonation, but it was very drinkable. Overall, not the best Oktoberfest ever. The beer was damn drinkable and it went well with my tuna.

The beer pours a dark gold/orange color with a thick frothy offwhite head that slowly fades to lacing. The aroma is good. It has a nice malty aroma that boasts of pale and Munich malts. It has some sweetness with a dry lager feel. The taste is good as well. It has a very smooth malty flavor that goes down easy and finishes dry and clean. The mouthfeel is fine. It is a medium bodied beer with adequate carbonation. This is a very good Oktoberfest. It's one of the maltier one's if tried recently.

Pours a clear rich amber red color with 1 finger of light tan head. OK retention with nice lacing. Smells of caramel, bread, and grass. As my fiancee described it "smells like a piece of bread that someone with muddy shoes stepped on". Tastes of light caramel and butterscotch followed by toasted malt and bread. Finishes with a nice bit of German grassy hops in the finish. Medium in body with good carbonation. Sweet and malty with a nice dry finish. Refreshing, very sessionable and full of flavor, a pretty good American version of an Oktoberfest bier.

Had this seasonal recently; a very decent attempt at the style. Poured amber gold with a decent head, with a strong malt aroma. Hoppier than the euro style but still flavorful if not as heavy. Paired well with the food, if not just a slight alcohol note. Mouthfeel was decent, though generous carbonation kept the drinking slow. Overall better than most oktoberfest brews; there aren't many great ones out there.

Appearance: clear orange / copper in color with a one finger head. The head falls to a surface foam rather quickly. No lacing develops.

Smell: the aroma was of caramel candy.

Taste: the flavors were a well balanced as caramel, lightly roasted malts, and hints of pepper and nuts made for an enjoyable pint.

Mouthfeel: crisp at the start and finish. The finish was brief with roasted tones, but overall relatively clean.

Drinkability: this is a great tasting oktoberfest. Definitely worth seeking out.
