On tap at the Lancaster location on Memorial Day 2011.

Pours a clear golden color with a good white head with moderate retention and a ring or so of lacing on the way down. Thin white collar throughout. The nose brings light floral hops. Also, some bread and accompanying mild sweetness. The flavor brings very light floral and earthy hops along with a nice bready character and also light sweetness. Really fantastic balance between these three components. Light to medium body and a dry, crisp finish with nice bitterness. One of the best, if not the best, version of the style I've come across. Well done, Iron Hill Lancaster.

a: This was a clear, bright golden color. It was served to me with a thin, frothy film.

s: Aromas of grains, honey, floral hops, and just a hint of grapes.

t: Lightly sweet and clean overall, no trace of the 7.2% abv to be found. I tasted light fuitiness, honey, and some breadiness.

m: Creamy and fairly full bodied.

d: Very nicely done, really hit the spot on a day that topped out at 95 degrees.

A - Golden color, small white head that dissipates to nothing within a few minutes, with minimal lacing.

S - Big, sweet, bready malts, which become a bit too sweet by the end.

T - Overly sweet bready malts in the front, with light floral hops in the finish.

M - Medium body, ample carbonation, slight bitterness in the finish, and lasting residual sweetness coating the mouth.

D - This beer really needs more hops to help balance out the sweet malts. By the end of a glass, I really didn't want another one. I enjoy a significant hop presence in maibocks, and this one just doesn't have it.

The 2010 version of this beer appeared earlier this week and was joined by 5 other german style beers on tap. It shows a brilliant gold in the glass, marred only by a quickly diminishing head. I didn't get much aroma from this beer. The malt toastiness was wanderful and the overall impression was one of freshness and balance. For 7.2% (per the server), this is an enormously drinakable beer right through the finish. I really liked this item !

Served honey brown with a thin head, smelled like doughy malts and a little bit of fruity (grapes?) smell.

The taste was delicious! I like Maibocks a lot, and this was light, floral, apples and grapes, with a piney hop bite which faded, leaving the taste of sweet malt to turn over in your mouth.

The mouthfeel was a bit syrupy for my taste, but with a good amount of carbonation. It wasn't particularly dry, and I couldn't find anything not drinkable about it--lots going on but everything working in harmony. My favorite Iron Hill offering yet.

Poured a golden yellow with creamy pinkish white head, good retention, and beautiful lacing. Smells of floral hops, honey, and grainy malt. Tastes of lemon, honey, grain, and a dry floral hop finish. Medium light in body with good carbonation, sweet with a crisp finish. Refreshing, easy to drink, light with a good balance of flavors. A decent maibock.

I enjoyed this in a pils glass served cold at the brewpub - I am eager to taste a new seasonal at Iron Hill.

A - Brilliant straw colored beauty w/ a procession of slow rising bubbles. The head is thin filled to a millimeter of the rim. White cap w/ very tight bead and moderate lace that holds ok.

S - Slight pils/noble hop combo in the aroma w/ nice German malt sweet and musty w/ earthy and nutty hints w/ a honey floral aroma accenting. There is an ever so light lactic yeast note

M - Very thin for the style w/ a heavy dose of carbonation and a nutty/creamy mix w/ slight spicing from hops in the finish

T - A very smooth malt approaches the tip of the tongue after the fizz subsides w/ nice creamy and gently nutty notes. Crisp flavors of spice and herbal notes w/ gentle acidity from the hops. The malt is refined w/ a nice slightly sweet/dry interplay. Bready w/ yeasty goodness and sweet honey-like toast tinges make it more or less a big pilsner.

D - A very well crafted beer-balanced, but on the light end of the spectrum. Tasty, clean and crisp taste- Highly drinkable and refreshing w/ a subtle hint of alcohol. A very tasty mai-bock, glad to see the style on the menu when it feels so much like spring outside. Well worth a try I recommend a growler to be sure.

A newly released offering at the Lancaster location.

A: The maibock is a pale copper color, brilliant especially when light shines through. A half a finger of head quickly receded after the glass was delivered to the table.

S: The nose is sweet grains, cereal with touches of honey-like notes. There is no hint of alcohol, which is a nice factor.

T: The maltiness of the nose is the driving factor in the taste. Sweet with a grainy, honey flavor, the beer does not shy away from the malts. Bittering hops only pop up sporadically and even then it is only to prevent the sweetness from going too far. A decent but not extraordinary bock.

M: The mouthfeel never fully comes together, which is a shame because I was really hankering for a solid maibock. I wouldn't kick it out of my fridge but I won't make it a go-to either.

D: It is rare to find a bad Iron Hill beer. This one didn't set my tastebuds aflame but it is not a poorly crafted beer either. Check it out, I will try it again.

Really, surprisingly different and less ABV than the Phoenixville offering.

A - poured a rocky white, mostly diminishing head over a pale amber body with lacing that was sufficient.

S - significantly less nose on this offering, but certainly still evident are the doughy yeast and malts that are on style.

T - this is unfortunately where it fell short, the most. It was ok, but tasted like any other Maibock on the market... very average. Nothing really stood out to me, and maybe that's the point to a Maibock, but I am looking for a hint of complexity, and it fell flat in this department.

M - it was mostly a watery (in a good way) feel with a slightly alcoholic and astringent finish feel to it, more astringent than alcohol, unfortunately. i was looking for a little bit of warming sensation.

D - it's up there, backing off on the ABV on this one vs. Phoenixville's lets this be a good session beer.

Was at the North Wales Iron Hill last night for dinner. They had this spring seasonal on tap.

A-Amber color, beer came out with a thin coat, no head to speak of, maybe it sat at the service bar a little longer than desired. Very little lacing

S- bready malts predominaste

T-another nice suprise, carmel and bready malts with a little sweetness are backed up nicely by a very light earthy hop bitterness.

M-Generally light body but a little sticky from the sugras.

D-very good, I could have sessioned this one too.

Overall-a fairly unaasuming approachable beer, very good transition.

I had this beer on my first visit to Iron Hill in Media, I’m sure I’ll be back again for the beer.
It poured a golden honey color with minimal head.
I could smell sweet honey and apple blossoms.
It tasted first of a flowery hops then apples and then bitter hops.
The mouth feel was light and syrupy with fun carbonation.
I thought this was a great maibock.

This beer poured a pale gold with some light brown highlights and a thin collar of pale white head.

Smelled of light and doughy biscuits, some sour green grapes and a little celery.

Tasted of sweet green grapes, honey and bread dough paired with a hoppy sting that creeps along my tongue releasing hints of oak and pine. Finishes with a clean, sweet doughiness as the sting fades to a smooth cedar. The interaction of these two flavors was marvelous.

The mouth feel is medium bodied with a light carbonation.

I really liked this one. It was sweet, but dry and the green grapes fighting with the piney bitter hops was fantastic. There was a lot going on, but it wasn’t enough to slow me down.
