Our strongest Belgian Abbey style beer, with intense sweetness and dark, dried fruit character, aged in a Cabernet barrel for 1 year with wild yeasts. The wild yeasts add a touch of tartness and additional complex fruity and spicy characters.

Poured a lightly hazy reddish brown color with a small, off white head that left light lacing on the glass. Aroma of red wine, brett, leather, vanilla, oak, and Belgian funk. Taste of brett, more red wine, some roast, oak, vanilla, cherries, dark candi sugar, and a bit of alcohol with a lengthy sour finish. In a way reminded me of Cuvee de Tomme, while I sat there, and drank a ton of this shit today.

Thanks to Tom & Eric for the tip that this one was on tap!

Poured a medium amberish color with a very small sized off white head. Aromas of cherries, brett, lighter oaky woodiness, vanilla, and a little vinous. Tastes of brett, cherries and other dark fruits, oak, vanilla, and candi sugar sweetness.

Nice sour and tart finish that wasn't overpowering. Well done and one of my favorite beers.

Appearance: Pours a clearish, amber body with a few stray bubbles here and there.

Smell: Aroma of bread, almonds, used oak, and dried cherries mutated by funkifying Brett.

Taste: Some malts, some sweetness, but the flavor is intensely Bretty *and* bready. Sour cherry fruitiness. Hint of almonds. Dry, funky finish that lingers on the tongue awhile.

Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Almost no carbonation.

Drinkability: It's certainly unique. Please, by all means, give it a try if you come across it.

Reviewed as growler because of the handbottling, thanks for the trade spacecoyote! Carbonation was pretty low but as grub notes, wasn't docked any points for appearance.

Pours a very attractive hazed amber/brown, very thin bubbles, almost no head, but does retain a small ring around the glass. Smell is great, some vinegar, caramel, nice funky sourness, vanilla, oak, brown sugar, tons of fruit, great sourness. Taste is sweet and sour up front, some sharp vinegar sourness, lots of bready malts, then the finish is all oak, very woody vanilla, too much tannic character, very drying finish. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with low carbonation, very dry and astringent finish, totally overoaked. Woody character was too overpowering, enjoyed every other aspect of this beer though. Thanks Carl!

Viggo was nice enough to share this one. thanks eric!

entering this as a growler review, since it was hand bottled from a growler. 750ml bottle, corked and caged. sampled march 8/08.

pours slightly hazy red-brown with a few big off-white bubbles around the edges. no lace.

aroma is wild and wacky. malt vinegar. leather and barnyard funk. lemon. bit of other light citrus. crackers and bread. bit of grain. light alcohol. bit of dark fruit hiding behind the funk.

taste is dominated by intense drying tannic wood. bit of malt vinegar, but less than i expected from the aroma. medium bitterness level feels a touch high, but some of that could be my perception of the wood. light alcohol. nice malt base that comes out more here than it did in the aroma. lots of bread. grain. bit of biscuit. leather. light horse blanket. almost smoky too. this definitely seems to have spent way too much time in the barrel. too much tannin to the point that it dominates everything else. as it warms a bit more lemon comes out, and a bit more of the dark fruit and caramel sweetness.

mouthfeel is ok. almost no carbonation, but since that's likely due to the hand bottling i haven't docked it for lack of head or carbonation. medium body with a very dry finish. some astringency.

drinkability is ok. the alcohol is very well hidden, showing almost no trace of the 12% abv. unfortunately, the overwhelming wood and tannin spoil this one for me. it throws the taste, mouthfeel, and drinkability way off on what i'm sure could have been an amazing beer. with less time in the barrel and some carbonation this would surely be a winner.

Much thanks to egajdzis for hooking it up...
Appears a deep amber with copper notes with a small, off-white head that quickly fades out into a mild cap. Tiny speckles of lacing are left around the glass.
Smell is of vanilla, caramel, red wine, nuts, oak, and just a touch of mild butterscotch.
Taste is of the mentioned aromas with some toastiness and caramel being backed up by vanilla and tartness.
Mouthfeel is medium bodied, very drinkable, medium amount of tartness, light CO2, with zesty notes of puckering lemon, pumelo, citrus, & wine.
