Served on-tap at Church Brew Works on 5-4-14

A - Light straw yellow color with one finger of foamy white head, thick lacing.
S - Biscuit malt, earthy tones, some pine, very weak aroma.
T - Creamy malt, light hop flavor, earthy, a hint of floral notes.
M - Just average
O - Light pils kinda beer, but its not for me.

Draft offering at the source served in a matching pint glass. The brew appears a hazy copper color with white frothy lace sticking to the glass. Overall not a bad looking brew, a swirl revives the cap.

The aromatics are quite muted. It takes awhile and many swirls to get something to emit from the glass. When it does, it smells like dirty vegetative hops. It is somewhat zesty, fruity and floral but that is really a stretch.

The flavor is like some sort of dirty fruit. Some hop flavoring coupled with alcohol gets to be almost perfume-like and minorly resinous. There is also a strange candy sort of appeal to the aftertaste but all in all this brew is strange and conflicting.

This is a medium bodied offering with a modest amount of carbonation. Ehhh, I would not have this again. Ive seen it on the menu before and avoided it then, probably should have again this time as well.

Coppery gold color. Slight haze. Thin lip of head.

Biscuity malts, Saaz hops, a little toastiness to the grain, and semi-sweet maltiness. Nice Germanic aroma.

Lots of Saaz. Almost a tinniness to these earthy hops. Latent hop tang meshing with sweet maltiness. A touch herbal. Has unique character. Malts are very biscuity indeed. Alcohol contributing, also.

Rich in body. Carb is easy to manage with this fullness. A little rip with booze, then again, it's not a Saaz Dwarf.

Good stuff. Not completely unlike what might be called a German IPA. Interesting.

Saaz Monster

LOOK: Pours a light gold with a chill haze. Large soapy head forms and laces the glass,

SMELL: Aroma of herbal Saaz hops, with some lager yeast aroma and bready/crackery notes.

TASTE: Light bready malts, delicate leafy hoppyness. Semi coarse bitterness, but even and easy drinking. Light flavor, but whats there is pretty good.

FEEL: Light bodied, well carbonated, crisp lager beer.

OVERALL: A pretty standard take on a rare style, the Saaz Monster is hardly a beast of a beer. What it is, is a simple, easy drinking well hopped lager, that would compliment just about any meal.

First had: on tap at the brewery

Poured a cloudy golden-yellow with a small foamy white head; moderate retention and lacing. Most signs pointed to this being a pils, and with a name like "Saaz Monster" I assumed it was one, despite being extra hazy for the style. You don't see zwickelbiers around too often. Aroma of lightly toasted grains, distant herbal hoppiness. More of the same in the taste: toasted grains, herbal hops, slight earthiness with a very subdued bitter aftertaste. Light body, crisp and drinkable. Not something I'd drink all the time, but not bad overall.

**Noticed that there is already a beer on here called "Saazsquatch" which does sound like this could be the same beer. However, this beer was advertised as a different style with a different ABV**

A-hazy gold with a nice frothy cream colored head. lots of bubbbles

S-creamy. touch of bitter hops. fairly grainy as well. some lemon tea as well. mild strength

T-comes in with a good hit of hoppy grains. its actually a crisp and decent taste. after the initial hit, a bitterness forms and lasts. its a unique taste but fairly spot on for the style.

M-medium to high carbonation with a dry finish

O-its a crisp and tasty beer though not as raw and flavorful as i like this style to be. the more i drink it, the more amateur it tastes. everything blends together and off flavors start to come out. still not a terrible taste though.
