Thanks again to JDV and pintsized
A-Cloudy yellowish amber if such a color exists. Little head
S-Diacetyl-Like butta'. Some malt flavor almost reminded me a buttered bread. Some light fruit flavor as warmed.
T-Alot like sweet buttery toffee. Some light peachy fruit and oak flavors were there as well, but the malt butter flavor dominated. Noticed the wheat flavor more as it warmed.
M-Creamy in the mouth. Nice.
D-Very interesting brew but too much butter flavor to make me reach for another one.

Served in snifter at Portsmouth Brewery.
Appearance: This beer poured a small head that reduced to a thin layer. It is a murky reddish brown with bubbles coming up the side of the glass.
Smell: Bready, caramel, toffee, spicy, bananas, and clove.
Taste: Caramel and toffee delight. Spicy, yeasty, bready, bananas, and a little alcohol.
Mouthfeel: Creamy smooth, medium bodied, warming alcohol, low to medium carbonation, and it got better as it warmed up.
Overall: Pretty solid wheatwine from Smutty's sister brewery.

22oz, October '11 bottle
Riedel tulip
A: Pours a clear deep orange color. Crystal clear. Initially a layer of bright white. Turns into a nice collar around the edges of glass. Some alcohol feet. Some lacing bits.
S: Sweetness. Breadiness from the malts. Some orange blossom. Some honeysuckle. And there is booze.
T: No bitterness on tongue. Hops have faded. Getting nice butterscotch like sweetness. Again, maybe a touch of orange and citrus (just a hint). Some herbal notes. Really nice tasting brew. Finish has some lingering sweetness. A little booze on back end as you sip. Warms throat.
M: Big medium.

22oz. bottle shared by EnfronCFO. 2010 vintage. Pours slightly lighter than cider in color with a loose head that dissipates into an oily skim and a bubbly band around the shoulders. Nose is sugary off the initial sniff, followed by wheat malt and a hint of ethanol. Cotton candy comes out as the brew warms. Taste consistent with nose with the addition of a slight chemically aftertaste at the finish. Mouthfeel is light-medium in body with an oily texture and an even carbonation. Overall, this beer seems spot on for the style. I would recommend trying this beer both fresh and cellared. Another great beer from Portsmouth.

Big thanks to the ratebeer (yes and BA too) Boise crew for this bomber. It pours sort of ruby with copper hues and white head. The aroma has fruity esters mixing with wheat as well as a wine barrel like sense to it. barrel aged? The taste confirms as modestly tart and sour wine barrel notes start things off. Behind these notes are some sweet wheat malts mixing with tart tangerine like citrus hops and spicy hops. Interesting. It seems somewhat like Alesmith’s 2008 Decadence. I don’t know the vintage of the current bottle. It’s pretty good.

On tap at the source. Pours a slightly cloudy deep reddish brown color with a huge cool whip looking head that takes forever to recede to a drinkable level. Smell is sweet with malts. Sugar coated dark fruits, tangerines, some brown sugar and a fair amount of ethanol and buttered popcorn. Taste is sweet with a lot of sugary fruits. Mildly spicy with a hint of tart and some alcohol. Medium to thick body, light level of carbonation and a sweet almost syrupy mouthfeel. I am not to impressed with this batch. It’s a bit like an old ale in its sweetness but a bit rough with alcohol and diacetyl. I have had this beer before and enjoyed it quite a bit, but I remember it being a hell of a lot hoppier.
On tap at the source 4/28/13 comes to the table in a snifter a slightly cloudy reddish brown with a good sized beige head. Smells of caramelized dark sugars, a bit of spice, some earth, light sweet citrus fruit, oranges and tangerines come to mind. The flavor is sweet and malty with lots of dark sugars and light fruits. Thick body with a light level of carbonation and a sweet almost syrupy mouthfeel. This beer is miles ahead of the last time I had it. My score reflects this tasting.

A- Low development of froth. Takes a heavy flow to get anything. What does prevail above the deep ruby body is short lived, frothy, juice like. Mild lacing, if you wish to call it that. Nothing too spectacular.
S- Ugh.. what is that? Oh... Oh I think. Diacetyl? Yea, that buttered popcorn aroma. Least there is a biscuit malt to back this up so its not just buttery, lightly sulfured, apple, and popcorn aroma.
T- Not as bad. Its a caramel apple and popcorn mix. Like reaching into a brown bag and hoping you pull out a handful of trail mix that isn't going to make you vomit. Its got popcorn throughout it. It lasts into the finish leaving you with a lingering popcorn but mostly rancid butter flavor. Sometimes its sweet in the middle that is bright in caramel and brown sugar, but overall... not so great for me.
M- Full bodied, light carbonation giving a gentle crispness in the center of the flavors. Light creaminess, lingering flavors do not benefit this beverage.
Its an older beer. Not my favorite. Not even sure on the style. An American amber? Not sure at all what this is.
Wheat wine. Interesting. With all the diacetyl, I don't get much wheat at all. I can see where they are coming from with the high alcohol and sweetness of a wheat wine though. Interesting!

Had on tap at the brewery—served into a pint glass
Appearance: copper in color, hazy, minimal head, moderate carbonation
Smell: caramel and wheat
Taste: big time caramel, toffee, wheat, alcohol, and some hops—maybe citrus at the end
Mouthfeel: very sweet with alcohol burn—slight bitterness at the end, low carbonation, medium-heavy bodied
Overall: A nice, complex, and hot sipper. I like wheatwines and this one holds up as another highly recommended brew from Portsmouth. I would certainly get this again. It was my favorite from what I tried in my recent visit.

22oz bottle picked up at the brewery today. It poured orange amber in color with a thin, frothy white head to it.
The aroma is on the sweeter side with caramel, honey and wheat flavors all coming out in it. I get some hoppiness in the form of an orange like citrus to it as well.
I get a lot of caramel and wheat flavors throughout the flavor as well. Some zesty, bitter, candied orange like hoppiness is there in the finish.
the mouthfeel is on the heavier side with carbonation being average. Overall I thought it was a good beer of the style and very flavorful and enjoyable beer to sip on this evening. It also helps that I'm a big wheatwine fan as well.
