S: The fruit is aggressive and all up front. Very sweet, red fruits seem to be the focus, but I can't place specifically which. The aroma is not soda-like or medicinal. 4

T: The taste is all about the fruit as well, not a ton of sourness, hops, or other flavors. New Glarus knows its fruits, and this is no exception. The fruit is the focus, but it's not fake or overly sugary which you sometimes run into with beers like this. 4

MF: Light and carbonated very well. The beer is very drinkable, I can't put it down! 4.5

O: New Glarus made a great fruit beer, no way! Seriously, if you like this style you can't go wrong with anything they do. 4.5

750ml capped and waxed bottle, received in the gang bang BIF

Pours out a nice clear deep red color, fairly retentive off white colors head with good lacing.

Big fruit aroma, maraschino cherries seem to be at the forefront. A little apple juice behind that.

Wow, fruit juice! A great tasting beer, lots of fresh apple juice, with some cranberry juice behind. All about the sweet fruit. Just a touch of that new glares earthiness.

Good tartness, mildly sour, light to almost medium in body. Amazing drinkability.

On par with all of the other new glares fruit beers. All about the fruit with some good tart/ sourness, but little to no funk. If someone says they don't like this beer, their lying.

Poured from a 750 ml into a Lost Abbey chalice.

A- pours a dark amber with a 1 finger off-white head. Small trails and blotches of lacing remain on the glass.

S- nice green apple aroma at first closely followed by cherries.

T- sweet and tart cherries followed by green apples and the cranberries are there at the finish.

M- light body and medium carbonation. Slight syrupy feel with perfect amount of carbonation makes this insanely drinkable.

O- another amazing fruit beer from NG. The fruits blend perfectly together to give mouthwatering flavors and a very nice aroma.

Poured from a waxed 750 ml bottle into a tall New Glarus Signature Pilsner Glass.

Appearance: Pours a deep brownish amber with some ruby red. Lots of bubbles and a solid two finger off white head that slowly fades into a thin patch. Leaves a decent amount of lacing on the glass.

Smell: A huge aroma of fresh fruits. Big hints of apples, tart cherries, raspberries, and cranberry. Light hints of oak and vanilla. Slightly toasted malts with a little brown sugar. Also some subtle hints of dark raisin and plum. Fairly yeasty. The fruits give a sweet smell but its nowhere near cloying. Smells like real fruit juices. Really great aroma.

Taste: Just as great as the aroma. A big taste of juicy fruits. Big taste of apples, tart cherries, raspberry, and cranberries. Fruits are sweet but not overwhelmingly sweet. Notes of oak and vanilla. Fairly earthy and yeasty. Light taste of malts with a little brown sugar. Undertones of dark raisin, plum, and fig. Literal tastes like a blend of fresh squeezed fruit juices. Sweetness and sourness is held in check and the acidity is pretty low. A really good taste.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with a medium to high level of carbonation. Creamy, juicy, and somewhat prickly. Very smooth.

Overall: A truly great fruit beer. The fruit flavor is big and bold while the sweetness is balanced and the body is smooth. Well balanced and really tasty.

a beautiful deep amber in color, clean pour, finger of detergent like head. smells of delicious sweet fruits and candy. cherry, apple, grape, cranberry. sweet and tart fruits hit your palate right away! as wonderful as the belgian red and raspberry tart.. almost like a combination of both. cherries, apples, cranberries are all present. as sweet as a lollipop. light to medium body, nicely carbonated, very sweet and tart.

an excellent one from new glarus. kinda glad there was a cherry shortage in order to have this! honestly not THAT different from belgian red, but it is slightly less artificial "candy" tasting and more on the delicious sweet fruit sugars.

The beer pours a clear cranberry red with a thin tan head that settles to a ring around the beer's circumference. The nose is very pleasant boasting notes of ripe apples, cranberries and the new glarus house yeast. The taste is sweet, but not nearly as cloying as Belgian red or razz tart. The apple sweetness and slight cranberry tartness works well with the style. The mouthfeel is slightly tart, sweet yet well attenuated, and very drinkable. This is definitely a winner, something I'd try again.

poured into tulip glass.

Appearance: medium red bodied beer with 1 finger of white head and sticky lacing. Head drops down to a fine cap on top the beer. The beer is a light rose color when its held up to light. The beer is brilliant and clear.

Smell: A big cherries and apples with a hint of cranberries. I think that I might smell raspberries too. The red fruit notes here are big and spectacular!

Taste: This beer almost tastes similiar to blending Belgian Red and Apple Ale. Great mixture of sweet fruit and tart fruit notes. You get a nice mellow oak note and a touch of vanilla as the sweet fruit notes blend with the oak note in the middle of the beer. There is definately some type of a mild spiciness in this beer, its almost like a cinnamon stick in apple cider. The cranberries add a nice mild tart zing to the end of this beer. All three fruits seem to be really well balanced with each other through the entire beer and not a single fruit seems to try and steal the spotlight. Really unique and I enjoy it!

Mouthfeel: light bodied beer with low end of moderate carbonation. The carbonation is really soft and delicate on the palate. Its like they blended the lower carb levels of Belgian Red and the aggressive champaign like carbonation of Raspberry Tart. Its carbonation perfection!

Overall: Dan Carey is a fruit beer genius! This beer proves it. He is no one trick pony hiding behind his world famous "fruit twins" and shows off his originality, creativity, and diversity with this beer. He is a truely amesome brewer who is not afraid to step out of his comfort zone and change it up for the better when conditions are not optimal for making his tried and true Belgian Red. He took all the strengths of the fruit beers (Belgian Red and Apple Ale) that he already brews, adds some cranberries and POOF the next big thing to come from this amazing small town WI brewery! Honestly, I enjoyed Serendipity better than both Raspberry Tart and Belgian Red; Senendipity blows both them both away. Raspberry Tart is now dethroned as my favorite New Glarus fruit beer. Lets keep in mind that both Raspberry Tart and Belgian Red are also wonderful fruit beers with very high accolades. My only request is... Dan please brew Serendipity all year long! Yep, I just said it!

Deep reddish brown color, slightly hazed. Minimal white head that doesn't have much retention.

A heavy fruity aroma is dominated by cranberries and apple cider. It's the perfect aroma for a fall evening. Sweet cherries finish it off.

It has a fantastic tug of war between sweet and tart. The apples contribute a sweet cider flavor followed by the cherries and vinegar. The finish is long and strong, and all cranberry sauce. It's the perfect medley of all three fruits.

Mouthfeel is medium and acidic. Great carbonation.

True to form, it's another superb fruit beer by New Glarus. It's extremely drinkable and complex.

750ml waxed bottle from my main man in the Midwest...you know who you are...my wife was geeked to pop this one and so was I...big Want poured into my Hill Farmstead tulip (cheers Aaron)...

A: Blood red/amber pour yields a mostly clear body...quickly receding white head leaves a little lacing.

S: Fruity, sweet, and slightly tart...big apple component here with lots of red apple skins and apple juice character...cranberry...hints of mulled cider, even cinnamon? Maybe some caramel and hints of brown sugar as well.

T: Juicy, crisp flavors follow the nose...apples and a pleasant fruity tartness dominate...cranberries, cherries, and again a carmelly/brown sugar sweetness complements the fruity tartness. A bit puckering with a dry pulling finish.

MF: Tart(er) medium/light mouthfeel with medium carbonation and a drying finish.

O: Walks a fine line between sweet and tart, a good beer. I was (incorrectly) expecting something closer to a Wild Ale, and this is most definitely a fruit beer, period. Refreshing stuff.

This spin-off of the famed Wisconsin Belgian Red is an apple, cranberry and cherry concoction from New Glarus. The beer pores a nut brown with red highlights and sports very little foam. The cherries pull through the aroma along with a heavy dose apples. The yeast also contributes. The flavor highlights the fruit: in many ways it reminds me of carbonated fruit juice with an emphasis on apples and a twist of beery goodness. The cherries nicely compliment the apples. The cranberries contribute tartness. The palate is left dry. This beer is complex with unique character.

Appearance: Deep red, garnet - impressively clear for the color - small, off-white head, fades to some wisps of a cap - leaves a few spots of lacing

Smell: Sweet, with a distinct New Glarus fruit beer aroma -lightly tart apples and cranberry take center stage, cherry is secondary - fruit sugar sweetness, basically smells like fruit juice

Taste: Beer? This be fruit juice - lightly tart but mostly sweet apples, more like apple juice than apple cider - lightly tart cranberries as well - cherry flesh rounds things out - like NG Wisconsin Belgian Red, this kind of tastes more like fruit juice than beer - not really much to say about malts or hops, as they appear to be missing, but it works for the style - sweet overall, but in a nice, fruity way

Mouthfeel: Medium body, sticky fruity sweetness, minimal carbonation

Overall: Part of a complete breakfast

New Glarus performs fruit alchemy. This is fruity and sweet without being overly sweet. It's like fruit salad with apples, cranberries, and cherries... except better. This is certainly worth a try if you can find a bottle.

Clear red with an orange-brown tinge, good initial head, gradually fades.

Smells of real cherries and cranberries.

Super complex. Cherry, cranberry, sweettart, cherry pie, real raspberry aftertaste. A bit of apple and blackberry as well? Not at all cloying, as refreshing as if this were solid real fruit juice.

Quite bubbly when cold, mellowed a bit when warm.

This is definitely my favorite of the 3 fruit beers. They are all a treat, but this is the one of the three I think I could drink a whole bottle of due to the others being quite sweet. Hope this becomes a permanent addition.

Tasted 31 December 2012, reviewed from notes.

Pours a medium-dark, slightly reddish amber. Very clear. Half-finger of yellowish head, decent retention and pretty good lacing. I really like the color.

Smell reminds me a lot of NG's other fruit beers, but has its uniqueness. I can't pull out each fruit. Get lots more cherry than anything else - syrupy, juicy bing cherry sweetness. Then apple, but apple pie apple, without the crispness or the tart. Very little tart in this, in fact - could use some more, IMO. Rich and sweet, without anything to balance that out (at least in the smell). Buoyantly fruity.

Taste comes on with syrupy cherries and sweet apple, followed by a touch of tart cranberry. The cranberry provides a bit of bite and tang here that are definitely needed, providing some acidic balance. But I wish there were even more of that, as I find it overly sweet.

Mouthfeel is spectacular. Light-bodied, buoyant and fluffy. Medium-high carbonation that flares up and gradually slows down like a right-skewed distribution.

Doesn't impress me as much as the other New Glarus fruit beers. Flavor feels a bit bloated and less clean because of the presence of all those fruits, and I really want some tart or sour to balance out that sweetness. Amazing mouthfeel.

Appearance: Clear deep copper with some solid dark reds and Brown's around the edges. Small, bubbly off-white head. Drops to a small spotty cap and collar. No lacing to speak of. Lovely, but not heavy carbonation.

Smell: Apple juice, mealy apple flesh, cherry skin and juice. Tart cranberry juice. Layers of sweet fruitiness. Slight tart edge with some backing woodiness. Cherry flesh. Juicy and fresh. Solid blend of fruit goodness.

Taste: So much fruit skin. Tart cherry and cranberry juice. Loaded with sweet mealy apple juice. Nice backing light malts and oak barrel. Slightly tart with a solid earthy woodiness. Layers of fruit as it warms. Apple dominates with a solid backbone of cranberry. Nice tart cherry finish. Some pale malts in the back with a nice overall fruity sweetness.

Mouthfeel: Mediumish body with minimal overall carbonation. Nice and smooth. Soft.

Overall: Kate Beckinsale minus John Cusack.

A damn fine fruit beer. Seriously impeccable.

750 ml bottle generously shared at the Peg's tasting on 3/8/13.

A- Pours a clear reddish magenta, produces almost no head.

S- Nice aroma of cherry, jam, other berry flavors. Lots of sweet berries and fruits. Smells pretty nice.

T- Moderate tartness with nice cherry and berry flavors, some oak, it's just a bit light and sweet, has a sort of fruity soda pop thing going on.

M- Light-bodied, high carbonation, very spritzy.

O- A solid fruit beer, the cherry/berry flavors are very nice, it's a bit sweet for my tastes but still worth picking up.

Beautiful looking beer - cranberry reds and darker pinks, stuffed with slow and steady beading and capped with a frothy pinkish white head that laces consistently from start to finish.

The lush tart red fruit notes are showcased in the nose, not as aggressively sweet as the others. Just piles and piles of fresh fruit juice aromas, berries and sweet apple, pear.

Fresh, crisp cranberry plays the lead role, blueberry and apple type flavors beneath that. It's fruit and it's beer. It's delectable.

Copper red with good clarity and good general appearance. Aroma is strong on apples and cherries... can't really comment on other aspects. Tastes very tart but the apples sure are noticeable. Cranberries are tart and there's ample dose of cherry at the end. Mouthfeel is medium with full carbonation and the finish is clean but with a lasting tartness. If this is oak aged, then the oak is present only in the tannins, but I am not sure. Overall it's a very good fruit beer but the label hints that it should be an American Wild Ale.

Another big thanks to Jeff for cracking this one - it was on my "wants" list for a long time and I'm glad to finally get a chance to try it. Pours a very clean and slick, ruby-tinted mahogany with pretty remarkable clarity for the deep shade it emits. A beige cap quickly foams up a recedes almost just as quick while leaving a few decent rings of lacing after the first few sips.

Holy smokes, the aroma is a huge explosion of fruit almost unlike anything else I've smelled before. A very deep, juicy, and raw black cherry aroma is first in command, heavily accented with sweet red apples on the edges. The fruit characteristics are so convincing and pure without the artificial and medicinal hints that oftentimes plague fruit beers and can evidently lead to their demise. This smells like a puree or freshly squeezed juice. Super convincing, mouth-watering, and honest to god delicious - can't wait to try it.

After taking one taste, I realize that I misspoke when calling the aroma a huge fruit explosion... because it's nothing compared to the flavor. Hot damn, the flavor in this is just incredible, if you're a fan of fruit, that is. Just absolutely delicious, pure, juicy, sweet, and mildly tart, all at once. I get hit with some Red Delicious apples up front, immediately following by the gushing onslaught of ripe, black cherries. Extremely juicy and overflowing with flavor. A tartness hits quick and fast before it fades into a sweetness that carries through to the aftertaste. Cranberries are heaviest in the finish, providing another small jolt of tart before they turn entirely sweet and savory on the palate. This beer is just on the cusp of the sour/sweet line at times, and it dangerously flirts with it so well. Lighter bodied with high carbonation, crisp and popping mouth feel.

This.... Now THIS is how you do a fruit beer. Throw an apple, some cherries, and a few cranberries into a blender, bottle it up and call it Serendipity. Almost perfect execution of pure fruit flavors while avoiding all of the off-putting side-effect that commonly plague this style of beer. New Glarus... I like them. A lot.

I got a 750mL bottle of this from Woodman’s in Janesville, WI in October 2012 for $8.79.

Happy accident indeed! New Glarus took the poor cherry crop in 2012 in stride and came up with a new delicious brew. Serendipity pours a burnt reddish color with a slightly pink head. The scent is still mostly cherries but is overall very fruity and sweet smelling giving it that classic sour ale smell. Taste is sweet and fruity with all the main elements (cherry, cranberry, and apple) evident in the mix. Added to the mix was the great decision to age this in oak to make this an interesting, fruity, and delicious sour ale that is supposedly only to be around until Jan 1 in place of their usual Belgian Red. Get it while you can folks!

Big thanks to crushedvol and KWMiles for a bottle of this brew...

A: Pours a deep murky red with about a half finger of off-white colored head. The foam settles quickly, and there is a small amount of lacing left on the glass as it drinks.

S: The nose is big apple, with a good helping of cherries. It says this beer is made with cranberries, but I can't specifically pull this scent out from the nose. There is also that familiar New Glarus twang to it.

T: The beer starts out sweet with a generous helping of apples, a good amount of tart cranberry, and some solid cherry notes. Although I couldn't pull out the cranberries in the nose, they are pretty evident in the taste. The New Glarus house yeast is there, and I get a touch of vanilla on the back end.

M: Medium bodied beer. It's sweet and coating, a bit sticky, and the flavors linger on the palate for a while after the beer has moved off the palate.

O: Excellent fruit beer. I think this is the best one that New Glarus has made. It's like a mix of the apple ale, the cranbic, and the Belgian Red. All three flavors work together quite nicely. Apple is the dominate flavor, but they all play off one another. Would love to drink more of this on the regular.

Serendipity pours a reddish color, with a large red head. Alot of sweet aromas, especially cherry. The taste has a blend of sweet fruits, cherry is profound, with hints of the apples and cranberries. Great full flavor, all the fruits blend together, there is no stages of flavors from the fruits. Not overpowering sweet. Overall a fantastic fruit beer.

Poured from a 750 ml. bottle into a Russian River "tion" stem.

A: Pours a beautiful crimson hue with a finger's worth of off-white head that quickly settles to a thin ring around the edges. Carbonation is perfect for this style.

S: Red fruits and spiced apple up front, with a soft caramel tinge lingering in the background.

T: Tart cranberry is prominent at first, while the cherries take a close back seat. Apple shows up on the mid-palate. A beautiful blend of all three fruits settles in near the back, with a tart, long-lasting finish.

Notes: This light to moderate-bodied brew has a tart, but not overly dry mouthfeel. Serendipity is a fruit beer with very few flaws, as with most of the offerings from New Glarus. This brew is stunning, and I will certainly be seeking out more bottles. Cheers to the brewery for this fine effort!

A- Pours a translucent dark slightly brownish cherry purplish red with about a finger's worth of frothy head that has nice retention and slowly recedes to a thin layer. Decent carbonation and considerable lacing.

S- Strong notes of sweet and tart cranberries, apples, and raspberries. Nice balance of the fruits and very fragrant but a little bit too overpowering on the sweetness.

T- Very sweet mixture of cherries, apples, raspberries, and some sweet malts finishing with a light fruity tartness that lingers for awhile. Lots of flavor just way too sweet for me.

M- Smooth, nice carbonation, nice body without being overly syrupy.

O- I've come to realize that I'm personally not a big fan of the New Glarus fruit beers. They are just all overpoweringly sweet and not that enjoyable for me. This beer had a ton of flavor, it's just the sweetness makes it almost undrinkable. I probably won't be having this beer again and I'm surprised so many people like it. I'd recommend it only if you like sweet and fruity beers.

Tulip glass.

A: Pours garnet with a finger of cream colored head with largish bubbles as the mass recedes. Good retention and solid lacing. Excellent clarity.

S: Like smelling a basket of fruit. Apple juice, red cherry popsicle.

T: Fruit forward, jammy, with mild tartness on the backend. Apple is probably most noticeable followed by cherry and a hint of raspberry. Fruit flavor sticks to the mouth. Mild to moderate sweetness that stays in balance with the tart flavor.

M: Medium-full body, slightly syrupy. Lightly carbed.

O: I like this better than Belgian Red and Raspberry Tart, but which seem overly sweet and one dimensional. It has the aspect of a fruited cider, which is interesting. But the drinkability is still limited by the sweet jammy-ness. This is best had in small doses.
