Poured into a weizen glass, huge initial head, pretty good lacing. Clear pale copper.
Banana, clove, and wheatiness the primary smells.
Wheat, black pepper, cinnamon, light fruits, and especially clove in the taste.
Very crisp mouthfeel. Medium-high carbonation, fits the style nicely.
This was nice and light and balanced. Nothing extreme about it, just nicely balanced and well done. I'd like to show this to some bud light drinkers.

Color is a dark gold, with a massive, creamy head typical for the style and glassware. Very attractive with lots of bubbles seen in the brilliant clarity and features of great lacing and head retention.
Aromas are of wheat and malts, with a nice fruity character of bananas. Cloves and other spicy notes are also noted.
The taste is similar to the aromas, but not as powerful. Malts and fruits give it sweetness, but it is kept balanced well. Crisp, with a light body, the beer finishes semi-sweet and refreshing.
Overall a very impressive beer! My first sample from New Glarus and I'm looking forward to more.
Thanks to Crass3000 for this one!

12 oz poured into a weizen glass. Pours with a nice and creamy head. Darker than what I expected, bordering the amber ale color. The head is also much darker than it should be. Brilliant clarity as expected. Good head retention and lacing.
Spicy clove and some malty sweetness in the aroma. Perfumy wheat malt. Taste is slightly fruity sweet and overall subtle. Aftertaste has richer notes of perfume and spice. Light bodied with a refreshing crispness. Just a tiny bit of bitterness at the back. Dry finish.
Overall refreshing and easy drinking but it's thoroughly forgettable.

I a bought a 6pk of this from Woodman's in Janesville, WI for $6.99 in Fall 2011.
Pours an amber orange color with a fluffy white head. Scent is full of wheats with a slight bitter scent mixed with bananas. The taste has a similar taste that reminds me of biting into an apple. I know there is a lot of wheat to this beer but I'm getting more apple tasting hints. This is a smooth, tasty brew that is a great drink for the fall harvest weather.

From notes
A - light amber body, clear, small white head.
S - banana, clove, simple and therefore great
T - light and malty, very nice
M - light and super enjoyable
O - light is the name of the game. It's a masterpiece of lightness (not thinking of calories). Great beer.

Laughing Fox pours a deeper golden color, with a big lacing white head. The smell is full of spices, and has a nice sweet note. The taste has a very full spice and belgin candy flavor. Very crisp and very full. Nice carbonation, very clean crisp flavor. Overall I had no clue what to expect from this beer. It is like a strong belgin whit beir, but much crisper, and stronger sugar notes. Overall a pretty good beer.

medium amber in color. Much darker than than the normal kristalweizen.
Beautiful creamy head, great retention. good carbonation.
Smells of malts, fresh bread, clove big on bananas, plums, almost a vanilla-white chocolate note, cider spiced doughnuts, apples, pears, pepper, heat, a cinnamon like note, nutmeg, really nice well balanced.
flavors to suit..lemon, banana, pear, apple, malt musty grains, peppers, yeast, cider.Really well balanced and absolutely delicious.
Great balance of carbonation, malty body and yeast spice to create a fantastic mouthfeel.
Not your typical kristalweizen, but immensely enjoyable and another great offering from what is rapidly becoming one of my favorite breweries.

I got this single 12oz brown bottle as part of a build your own 6 pack of New Glarus beers for $10 (so $1.67 per bottle). No freshness date. Unfortunately, New Glarus does not distribute their beers outside the state, so you'll have to make the trip up to Wisconsin to taste one of these.
Nice looking pour. Two fingers of creamy white head atop a clear amber orange/red body that does resemble the color of a fox coat. Retention was good and the lacing was even better.
The smell was mostly banana with a bit of bubble gum sweetness.
Banana, clove, and cinnamon are the predominant flavors. Wheat malt, caramel malt, some other fruits, and a bit of pepper add to the taste. Decent taste but no "oh wow" factor.
Light body and very spritzy. The carbonation level is way up there.
Easy and enjoyable to drink. Another good offering from New Glarus, although not in my top 10.

12oz into a pint.
A: Pours crisp and clear, red body. The head is off white and settles to a thin mat. Carbonation is flowing in a steady and free manor. Lacing is left in low levels.
S: Aroma is soft and present, with nice levels of warm fermented fruity esters. Clove and banana blend good with the Munich and Vienna presence.
TM: Body is light on the palate, while still being rich and having a somewhat thick presence to it. The amber malts induce a cookie like note. Mouthfeel is in high levels of carbonation like a good wiezen should be.
O: Overall this is a very well rounded brew, a nice welcoming beer, with a substantial body, while holding a very nice weizen presence. Very nicely done, will be returning to this one many times.

12oz bottle poured into a pint glass. Thanks to storminspank for this. First review of a Kristalweizen.
A: Medium amber in color with great clarity. One finger white head with disappointing retention and lacing.
S: Lots of bubblegum. Slight banana and clove coming through. Some slight wheat.
T: Slight caramel upfront. Bubblegum, banana, clove, a touch of coriander. Finishing wheaty.
M: Light to medium bodied. Good mouth coating. Medium carbonation. Slightly oily.
O: A good beer. Nothing special. Light, tasty, sessionable.

A: Golden amber shade with a huge fluffy white head.
S: Perfume-like banana/clove yeast, with a bit of malt underneath.
T: Yeast is more restrained in the flavor, allowing the malt to step out. Bready and slightly sweet, with a faint touch of fruity hops. Finish is short and clean.
M: Medium body with light-medium carbonation. Overall, mouthfeel is pretty soft and smooth.
For a mild easy drinker, this is a great beer. Smooth, but plenty of personality here.

A- Clear light amber with a full finger thick head of foam.
S- Spicy cloves with hints of cinnamon and banana.
T- Bready malt abounds with the spicyness in tow as well. Caramel malt pops up towrads the end for some added complexity.
M- Light and fizzy, strong carbonation.
O- A good beer, but I think it falls short for New Glarus. If you're a big wheat beer fan certainly pick it up. Otherwise it's still good, just not a "must try".

Had never seen this NG on the shelves. Can't remember the last Kristalweizen I had, interesting that the small brewery from over the border wanted to make one.
A -- Clear, deep gold with a massive, off-white head that lasts long into the beer.
S -- Nicely mild banana/bubblegum with vague graininess back.
T -- Citrus character up front, somewhat tart, that blends into the banana esters and then into smooth malts. Finishes with a mildly tart citrus ester and light spiciness.
M -- Mouthfeel is soft and smooth with a light body.
O -- A very well made take on a seldom seen style. Has all the characteristics you'd expect in a Bavarian Hefeweizen without the cloudy yeast.

Poured out of 12 oz bottle into tulip style pint glass.
A) It is a deeper amber. There was a full two finger head, complete with rocky top. Nice retention. Good amount of lacing. Looks quite inviting.
S) Aroma of wheat and spices. A pleasing sweetness and hints of ripe banana.
T) Wheat upfront, sweetness and hints of other fruit, bit of apple, maybe pear. The banana is in there for sure. The finish is spice, mostly the clove.
M) Medium body, and pretty well carbonated. It is actually pretty creamy. Very nice on the palate.
O) This is pretty darn good. I had a few folks compare this to Dancing Man Wheat. This is not as good, but if Dancing Man isn't available, this would be an acceptable plan B.

Bottle into pint glass
A - A cascade of bubbles rises from the bottom of the glass, resulting in a two finger off-white head. The beer is clear and copper in color.
S - Strong banana and biscuit aromas, with clove abound.
T - Incredibly mild, but very sweet in the middle, mellowing out to a smooth bready finish. Banana bread with clove. I almost think this is a better "banana bread beer" than Young's beer of that name!
M - Light to medium body, very wet, with active bubbles that tickle the tongue. Dries out slightly in the tail end.
O - Overall a fine brew. A nice example of banana esters developed purely from yeast, paired with fulfilling bread and a bit of spicy clove. Yum!

12oz bottle with no date. bought on a recent trip to the land of the cheeseheads
pours semi-cloudy amber-gold, smell is like a straight hefe- clove, wheat, coriander, some cinnamon as well. taste is an extremely bright, fruity, crisp take on a hefe. apple, pear, and tangerine fruit notes round out the clove and wheat hefe taste. slight cloying feel, light, well carbonated.
Great easy drinkin' wheat beer with terrific flavor. Well done New Glarus!

Got this early from the manager at a liquor store.
A- Pours an orangish-red with a big head, a little over two fingers worth. Crystal clear(pun intended), and a decent amount of carbonation from the bottom of the glass. The head sticks around forever and leaves soem pretty good lacing.
S- No doubt a wheat beer and more than that, one of Dan Carey's wheat beer. There are barely any hops noticeable and just a little bit of a grassy end.
T- This is an interesting beer. It starts off with a big dose of wheat up front but it then gives way to what reminds me of a red ale and then some hints of a lager.
M- This is lighter bodied with some crisp carbonation. This would make for a great summer with its lighter alcohol content.
O- It's hard to knock this beer but it doesn't measure up compared to some of Dan's other wheats. With that said, this would be a decent substitution for anyone looking for Dancing Man with a lower alcohol content(but who would want that?).

A- pours a garnet amber color with great clarity. Solid three fingers of tannish tinted offwhite head. Decent retention.
S- big spice aromas of clove, cinnamon and allspice. A hint of banana and bubblegum in the middle. Finish is enticing wheat with a touch of raw honeycomb.
T- slight malty sweetness at first with a cracked wheat flavor. Not much flavor at first but on the finish a burst of clove, banana and bubblegum linger on the palate with a note of green apple fruitiness.
MF- slick mouthfeel with a light medium body and effervescent carbonation.
D- very drinkable with a very refreshing character.
Overall a very solid brew.

Poured into a snifter, this beer pours brilliantly clear copper with a thick, ample off-white, beautiful! The nose is dominated by bountiful spice and clove yeast character with some sweet malt in the background. The flavor is like the nose, but much more subdued. The yeast character is subdued, yet still noticeable, with some bready, sweet malt in the background. The beer finishes pleasantly dry. Given the wonderfully strong nose I expected more body/mouthfeel, it doesn't need to be chewy, but it just misses as too thin, and this even with a medium-high carbonation. Overall a beautiful, great smelling beer, while the flavor is a bit too subdued and mouthfeel a bit thin, it is a highly drinkable refreshing beer.

12 fl oz brown glass bottle poured into a weizen glass, reviewed live:
A - Pours a textbook copper color with a khaki, surprisingly creamy, three finger head. Retention is good, but not noteworthy. Not what I was expecting, but appealing.
S - Banana dominates. Light caramel, candi sweetness, and clove/spice esters are prominant. Moderate in strength. Typical biscuity yeast characteristics are present, if a bit restrained (though that may be true to style.) Inviting, to say the least.
T - Typical but fresh, sweet banana notes open. Lightly toasted and Crystal malts form the body, differentiating it from your typical hefe. I like it. Not bready or doughy. Light spice throughout, though I'd be hard pressed to identify them. The caramel throughout is a nice touch.
M - Crisp, chewy, smooth, and refreshing. Nearly ideal.
D - This is the first beer I've had in the style. A departure from your typical wheat offering, but definitely worth a go. I'd have it again.

Picked up a couple 6 packs of this earlier this fall. Finally getting around to reviewing one of the last ones left in the fridge.
A-This baby is very heady (large bubbles and yet frothy at the same time). Brilliantly clear with a rich copper color with plenty of tiny bubbles keeping that head dominating the surface.
S-Smells like a hefe-heavy on the banana fruity esters. Grainy wheat aroma.
T-A moderate amount of those banana-y esters. As well as lightly toasted wheat. What makes this beer unique is the spicy prickly heat sensation which has to be the cinnamon noted on the bottle. I'd prefer more of a clove phenol sensation instead.
M-Medium bodied for a weizen. Plenty of carbonation. Not creamy.
O-A solid brew although not as prefered as some other unfiltered versions. I think I'd rather drink the unfiltered versions that have a little more creaminess and stronger clove notes.

Poured from bottle into pint glass.
A: Strong looking pour with a cola light brown appearance and a 1 finger off white head that lingers and faintly laces.
S: Sweet fruit, banana, clove, coriander, cinnamon.

A million thanks as always to klikger for beautiful beer to drink. Cheers!
What a beer to enjoy on a mild sunday evening. A nice creamy head delivers in a medium-bodied and well carbonated avalanche of tamed wheat, clove, cinnamon, banana, corn and a tad of aged cheddar cheese. Really cant get enough of these great new glarus brews. This brewery is really showing that it can be calculated, balanced and masterful in its measurements in addition to creative, artistic and extreme. Absolutely recommend this!

A - Pours as clear as can be with a huge white cap.
S - Moderate scents of all the things I look for in a Weizen...banana, clove, bubblegum.
T - Somewhat sweet on the palate with subdued (compared to unfiltered versions) flavors mirroring the smell. A little less lemon tart as well. Finishes sweet leaving you wanting more.
M - Light-bodied with decent carbonation.
D - Very drinkable.Very refreshing, An outstanding version of the style.

12 ounce bottle poured into pint glass. Huge frothy off-white head sitting on a clear medium-amber body. Good retention and moderate lacing.
Aroma is banana and clove. Light citrus and bubble gum, and mildly wheaty. Touch of cinnamon and vanilla.
Very clean, crisp flavor. Fruity and lightly spiced, with just a minimal wheaty presence.
Sharp, crisp, light-medium body with good carbonation.
I'm not a huge fan of most wheat beers, but I always come in with an open mind. This is a very clean, very drinkable beer. Solid, if not particularly memorable.
