12 oz. bottle poured into a pilsener glass

Pours a pale straw yellow with a bright white one and half finger bright white head. Light lacing as the head recedes. Light citrus and fresh cut grass on the nose. Opens crisp and clean with floral and grassy hops which continue until a crisp dry finish. Light bodied with a abundant light carbonation. The perfect brew to enjoy while grilling (as I did) and can't be beat in warm weather.

On tap at the Fountain (Madison). Really nice to have this on at a sidewalk table this hot evening after biking over.

Clear yellow, with a fast-dissipating white head.

A floral hay in the aroma, plus a sweetness that shakes hands firmly. That sweetness is odd on the palate, nice to be sure, but just so neutral in its sugar, not tinged with bread or fruit at all. Some berry flavor comes through after swallowing, maybe a touch of floral hops, but a feather-light touch.

Crisp carbonation, very refreshing. (If it weren't for that odd colorless sweetness dominating the whole thing, this could be highly drinkable.)

Poured from a 12 ounce bottle into a pint glass.

Pours very light gold with some white foam. Bubbles cascade. Grainy smell, hints of corn. Like beer. But not offensive like an BMC adjunct. Lightly pleasant. Light and fluffy taste. Plain and simple, perfect straightforward summer beer. Well done.

12oz bottle with no date into mason jar

Look is a remarkable clear pale yellow. Smell is light malt, grain, yeast, subtle earthy hops. Taste is hay, malt, light hop favoring in the back. Very enjoyable and crisp. This would be excellent at a BBQ on a hot summer's day.

Very enjoyable, simple lager. Will have again.

Thanks to my wife for bringing my this brew!

A: Pale yellow in color, like a chardonnay.. Crystal clear, with a large white head.

S: A bit of dusty straw, as well as a fruity sweetness comes out first. There is a little bit of a citrus thing, as well as some floral notes. Smells nice.

T: Nice malt, creamy, with some floral notes in the finish. Some light fruit and berry flavors in the flavor.

M: Light, very bubbly. Crisp, clean and very refreshing..

O: Overall very enjoyable. Light and refreshing.. a good summer brew to be sure. I'm only sad that I didn't have the foresight to do a half and half with another one of their brews to get two women totally naked.

12 oz. bottle served in a New Glarus ale glass.

Appearance: A foamy head recedes to a ring with islands floating on the surface. Crystal clear pale lemony golden, completely uniform color from edge to edge. Above average lacing.

Smell: Light honey malt aroma with clean noble hops in the background.

Taste: Not dry like many pale lagers. Residual sweetness with slight honey. Crisp and clean. A nicely balanced beer with light hops that taste fresh with low bitterness. Slightly fruity flavor typical of New Glarus but well integrated and very pleasing in this pale lager.

Mouthfeel: Crisp and smooth. Light but not watery. Refreshing and smooth.

I could throw back a few of these on a spring day!

poured from bottle to pint glass with a straw color. Very pale yellow with a light head that fades quickly.
Odor is of hay and grain. Some pine as well.
Taste is clean and crisp. Lager, plain and simple. Some grain and a little pine here too. Mouth feel is light and carbonated. Finishes clean and with no real aftertaste.
Overall a good, light lager beer. It seems like it would go well on a hot day.

Poured into a Pilsner Glass

Appearance - Pale Clear Yellow with a surprisingly foamy albeit soapy head. Lacing is pretty good for a light beer.

Smell - Yeasts, malts and a faint barley smell. That's it! Luckily, it's not offensive and I'd even go as far as to say good to the scent, like baked bread.

Taste - Yeasts, malts, barley all encompassed by a sweet lemon zest. Normally this combination doesn't work out unless it's in a Pilsner, but this is actually drinkable! They somehow managed to pull it off. It's like a Pale Ale/Pilsner hybrid, if you will.

Mouthfeel - Light bodied and almost no carbonation. This is also pretty crisp, so it feels nice!

Overall - When I first looked at it in my glass, I expected the worst but I found this to be a good simple tasting beer that is perfect for a hot summer day. Just don't expect this to win any awards as far as flavor goes.

look: 4.5 | smell: 5 | taste: 5 | feel: 5 | overall: 5

Appearance: Crystal clear straw to lemony yellow. A finger or two of nice fluffy head. A very pretty bear.

Smell: Pretty clean, mostly malt with a bit of herbal of floral and a bit less than that herbal hoppiness.

Taste: Clear and brisk lager. Some grassiness. Well balanced malt and hops throughout with just a faint hint of citrus to go with the herbal and floral hops. Just a touch of bitterness, again in perfect balance, and a dry finish.

Moutfeel: Light lager body, just the right amount of carbonation.

This beer is everything a basic lager should be. And is the perfect reminder that a well executed basic lager is not boring or bad. Beer this clean is unforgiving when it comes to hiding mistakes and shortcuts, and this shows none.

If I lived in Wisconsin my fridge would always be stocked with this, particularly in the summer months.

A New Glarus sampler from my mom for Christmas? Best gift in years? We'll see.

i have been struggling with beers lately trying to find one that i didn't get sick of after finishing just one. This is a very easy drinking beer.
Light urine appearance, light lacing, yet prominent with each drink.
The smell is light but just enough of a floral-hay combo. It reminds me exactly of some beer i can't think of at the moment....it's killing me. Taste is nice, nothing at first, smoothing out to a match to the smell throughout.
A solid lager. If they were closer to NC, it could fall into the light drink rotation.

Pours a light golden lager color with just a hint of cloudiness. has a decent sized white head that dissipates quickly without hardly any lacing. Smell is of apples and pears, a light fruity aroma is the most prevelant, i a hint of yeast is also present. Taste is crisp and clean and very smooth, with a tiny bit of an aftertaste. Mouthfeel is good considering how light the beer is. Overall it is a very fine lager, has as much taste as a lot of ales which is hard to do for a lager.

Poured from a 12oz bottle into a pilsner glass.

A: Pours that straw-piss colour that we all know and the association is deterring.

S: Smell is weak. There's a bit of bland malty background against a grainy, earthy hop dose.

T: Steps up a bit here. The flavours are rounded and well-integrated. The malty (not sweet, just 'malty') flavour is pleasantly dominent and the melanoidins and hops are crisp and sharp.

D: Great drinking stuff, I've got to hand it to them. Mouthfeel is also proper for the style.

Overall: Its a tough style to do right, but this is well crafted. Its got a nice connection with its European roots and enough flavour to push it far above other beers in the style. I would love to have a case of these at the beach on a hot summer day.

I suppose every brewery has to consider a concession to the macro patron. The challenge is to come up with something flavorful and non-offensive, and tough combination. New Glarus got the non-offensive part right, but flavorful . . . not so much. Nice bright and clean malt flavor, with a distinct lean toward grain. Low hops level is appropriate for the style, but here the hops seemed washed-out.

Girlfriend brought these back for me from her trip to Milwaukee. 12oz brown bottles with no freshness date. They ran $10 a 6pk.

The beer poured a mostly clear pale yellow color and made a big 2½-finger fluffy whiute head that lasted and lasted, well over 3 minutes before I could drink it. It also left a moderate amount of lacing on the glass.

Hardly any smell to this. Faint pale malt and floral hop aroma.

This is a light, clean, crisp, and refreshing lager. It's not going to win any awards for flavor, but it's still good. Mild dose of pale malt sweetness with perhaps a kiss of honey. Hops are floral without a trace of bitterness.

Super light body bordering on watery, but very crisp carbonation gives it a refreshing kick.

At just 4.25% abv. these go down so easy and would be great on a hot summer day.

Bottle from a sampler pack.

With many breweries switching to their heavier brews in accordance with the season change ti's nice to take a break with a lighter brew with less calories.

It is definitely pale. A light, transparent gold color with lots of carbonation. It's aroma is light, with hints of straw and hops. The taste is crisp, with a bit of citrus. It goes down very easy with little aftertaste. I like this one, it's light, tasty, and unoffensive. Nice job, guys!

Poured a very pale yellow with an inch of white foam that dissipates quickly and leaves no lacing. Smell is fairly neutral with corn elements and a very light floral hop. Taste is essentially bland and inoffensive, somewhere a half-step up from a macro lager corn and grain and some sweetness. Mouthfeel is light and the carbonation is medium crisp. It's refreshing and not filling.

12 oz bottle poured into a footed pilsner glass.

It pours a crystal clear pale straw with a pillowy white head. The head dies down to a small layer of bubbles in top, lacing is medium and nice tiny bubbles are constantly rising to the surface.

The aroma is very neutral. Some grainyness and sweet corn with a very crisp lager finish.

The flavor is more corn dominant. It has a nice mild sweetness but finishes very crisp like a very drinkable lager should.

To me this is a just a step up in flavor from the standard BMC. It doesn't have much flavor but what it has is a compliment to the beer. To me this beer is for those that want to drink or be seen drinking craft but think Spotted Cow has too much flavor.

A- Lazy pour yields 2 fingers head. Completely transparent yellow. Crystal clear.

S- Metallic lager tinge. That's all.

T- I think people that give this beer a low score are forgetting what it is supposed to be. It is a common thing here.YOU KNOW what New Glarus can do with their beers, so obviously they chose to make this beer what it is, a session lager. If I lived in WI I would have a case of these in the fridge for everyday drinking all summer.
Taste is refreshing, just a bit of apple, sour.

M- Crisp, clean, a sweet aftertaste.

O- This was a favorite of mine in college when I knew pretty much nothing about beer, now I now barely something and I still like it.

Roommate brought a sixer back from Wisconsin. Pours as pale as any beer I have ever seen. About a centimeter of white head that leaves some spotty lacing, but not much at all. At first there seems to be a bit of off notes, but it sort of dissipates. Now I notice some grassy hop notes and a very light mildly bready aroma. Taste is very very light crisp and refreshing. Mildly bready as well, grassy, floral, earthy hop notes, but all very light and subtle. Mouthfeel is exactly where it should be. Light and refreshing with a moderate amount of carbonation. Overall, this is a good beer. Enjoyable crisp and refreshing.

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a becker glass.

A: Clear, pale golden color with two fingers of fluffy white foam that diminishes to a quarter-sized berg. Extensive speckled lacing remains on the glass and tiny bubbles rise in many steady streams through the column.

S: crisp water crackers and grassy hops that show some green herbaceous notes as well as dry hay. A trace of sulfur is detected, tasteful rather than over-stated.

T: Begins dry, with muted herbaceous hop aromatics that seem to be all by themselves at first. Acidity is mild into the middle, where malt is more toasty and delicately fruity. A whiff of understated pilsner malt lingers into the finish while other flavors clear out quickly.

M: Thin to medium viscosity, balanced on the palate, with moderate carbonation.

D/O: While the flavor profile lacks the urgency of the better pilsners, with a hop presence that is too timid, it does not transmit any suggestion of corn. It generally lacks interest, with the exception of the aroma, although it drinks effortlessly.

Crystal clear yellow with a bone white head that has great contrast with the body.

The smell is grainy with a light floral hop presence that reminds me of lilacs.

The taste is rather ordinary, but so goes the style. Grainy, grassy, and ever-so-slightly floral.

Mouthfeel is on the lighter side of medium with average carbonation.

A good but simple beer. It's hard to do anything interesting with a lager, but it's a solid beer despite that.

S: Hints of cracker and straw, along with some floral hop undertones.

T: Honey and biscuit malt notes, with some lemon up front, followed by grassy, floral hop flavors that lend the beer a very clean, drying finish.

I've got notes from a summer tasting. They're good and I've just been holding onto them all this time.

The color is a completely clear medium yellow. A soft head one finger tall has good retention and leaves a good amount of lacing patchily along the sides of the glass.
I understand that this is too light for the monster seekers, but it's exactly what I'd expect from this style. I get some grassiness in the nose and I'm immediately thinking Saaz or a noble variety with the corresponding lightly herbal quality. There's a bit of more leafy earthiness with a blend of mildly sweet and bready malts backing.
The flavor profile is equally light, plenty flavorful without pounding your face. It's actually a little disparaging to see so many reviewers wishing more hops were added. I like hops. This is a different beer, and it's not meant to be overly hoppy. As it is, the light hops additions add flavor and balance very well. This is an extremely sessionable beer. This simply isn't meant to be a monster.
The body is light but neither thin nor weak. It's nice and crisp, definitely refreshing, with a bit of smoothness to it.
I get it. People don't like this style. I see it as an extremely legitimate one out of dozens, and this a good example of it.
