12oz. Bottle poured into pint glass

A: pours a clear golden yellow with a 1/4" white head that faded quickly. Some visable carbonation. Lacing was visable threw the entire beer.

S: not a whole lot going on, but picking up some yeast.

T: The bottle says ale, but I'm thinking pilsner. But BA classifies it as a APA. Picking up some malt, that's about it. I love NG, but this one seems alittle watery.

M: Thin bodied. Little carbonation, maybe due to not being fresh. Finishes clean.

D: this is a ok beer. Wish I bad the chance to drink it fresh. I think they stopped brewing this beer and replaced it with Moon Man. Know that's a great APA! That review will be posted soon!

A. Murky golden orange color with absolutely no head at all on my particular bottle. The carbonation is weak at best. I've gotten burned on shelf life in the singles cooler at the store once again, it seems. There isn't a visible date code on this one, either to deny or confirm my suspicion. :(

M. Aside from being flat, the body isn't that bad. Pretty light and weightless. A good thirst quencher.

S, T. Now this is where things get interesting. Despite being led to believe that this is an old bottle by evidence of lack of carbonation, the nose (and taste, for that matter) are still full of decent amounts of crisp floral hallertau signature profile over a lovely sweet malt. It comes across as a golden ale sweet malt paired with pilsner hopping. Now I wonder, after reading other reviews stating that this beer is normally lowly carbonated, if I have misread things and this beer is actually fresher than I thought. Because the crispness and hopping certainly speaks volumes of freshness! And if really is old, than I've got to be impressed by how well the flavor has held together. Either way, it means this beer is worth trying out. Yes, it is simple. But it is simple in that Zen sort of "clean" way that something done correctly simple can be.

This seems to be the spiritual sister to NG's other exercise in simplicity, "Totally Naked" If you like the way that one drinks, you'll probably like this one too, and vice versa.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a Peace Tree pint. I am not able to decipher the date info, but it still smells fresh.

A: Pours a slightly cloudy, light orange color. 1/2 finger of off-white head with modest retention and some lace. Fairly active carbonation.

S: Sweet malt, light floral hops and a bit of fruity esters. Overall combination has a bit of a pilsner character.

T: Light grapefruit hops up front quickly fade to a light sweet malt. Whisper of grapefruit hops at the end, finishes with a sliver of spicy alcohol. For an APA, not much hoppiness.

M: Medium-light mouthfeel with a soda-like carbonation. A little cream in the finish.

O: Hmm, odd APA. Seems to have a few different things going on that never quite pull together. It's pleasant and I would drink it again, but probably wouldn't go out of my way to find it unless I could get something with a date that would clear up any questions I have about whether this is past its prime. The smell says it's still good, but the taste, while not stale, might be faded.

Who doesn't love a good pale ale? For a craft beer drinker, I feel the pale ale is the "pilsner" to the casual beer drinker. (of course I use the term "pilsner" in quotes as its not confused with "american light lager" LOL)

Seriously, was interested to try this one because I don't think of New Glarus as a Pale Ale or even IPA producer. Its amazing they make 100,000+ bbl per year yet don't do a PA or IPA like almost every other craft brewer. Well, here is their shot at it...

Head dissipated rather quickly, mild haze in beer, otherwise a nice light amber color.

Great aroma! Nice fresh hop bouquet preserved; beer must be fresh and/or stored properly.

Nice balance, a bit of prickly hop abrasion upfront but nice mellow smoothness on the back end. Gets better as the pint proceeds.

Mouthfeel is subdued, medium bodied, moderate carbonation. No technical flaws - solid quality control, and a great quaffer.

Well done New Glarus.

Reviewed from notes.

Pours a somewhat cloudy yellow grain color with a slight white head, a bit of retention, and not too much lacing. The nose is slight grain and some very faint floral hops. Taste is a bit grainy with a bit of a light, creamy texture. Somewhat low carbonation. Drinkability is a bit high as this is nice and light without too much going on.

A: Medium gold in color, thin layer of head over the surface of the beer, a few sticky spots of foam scattered about the interior of the glass - 3.50, S: Initial pour results in a nice herbal nose as well as ome sweet grain aromas that are also quite prominent, slightest hint of bubblegum - 4.00, T: Noticeable spicy hop bite, same grainy sweetness on the tongue that was present on the nose, slight honeydew melon flavors, very mild grapefruit zest - 3.00, M: The mouth feel is slightly slick and medium/light bodied - 3.00, D: A respectable APA and quite drinkable, just not one that really stands out - 3.50

Poured into my New Belgium globe

A - Pours a cloudy, bright gold color with a quickly dissipating 1/2 finger head. No lacing.

S - Interesting nose here, smells sweet, perhaps like creamed corn(?). Light malt backbone.

T - Light sweet toasted malts with a slightly spicy and floral finish.

M - Crisp! Thin body with lively carbonation.

D - Tasty, easy drinking. Very crisp and refreshing, could have a number of these in one sitting.
