Thanks Grant for bringing back from WI. My first pint (I will give it another go) showed abundant white head. The aroma was full of cinammon spicey wheat. Above average mouthfeel. Very sweet orangey, clove, corriander. Almost cloying, so I did not fiund overly drinkable. I remember more balanced hefes.

Golden and hazy. Very foamy and effervescent. Wheaty, sweet, nice beer. Very enjoyable and I'd definitely drink it again...to bad I can't pick it up locally.
Nice wheat...really didn't taste the 7.2 ABV...great even when it's cold out. But I can imagine it in the summer sitting back and enjoying a few of these with some BBQ.

A - Nice hazy amber color with touches of orange. Nice big head that dissipated with some sheeting along the sides throughout the drink.
S - Great hefe smell, with nice banana and clove. Smells more sweet than spicey, with some nice phenol and yeast on the end.
T - It's a pretty sweet banana tasting brew, and it gets too sweet to drink tons of, although it tastes pretty good. I get the feeling a lot of non-craft beer drinkers may like the taste on this one. Nice yeasty quality to it.
M - Medium bodied with some nice bubbles, sweet finish.
D - Fairly easy drinker, although the sweetness can get to you. Pleasant to drink, would drink it if it was around.

Pours a cloudy murky yellow into my wheat glass. Head dances up to the rim on a moderate pour and quickly settles to an 1/8 inch pillow.
Aroma is very citric sweet on top of banana. Taste follows the nose with a very heavy banana and bubblegum presence that has a bit of a hop finish and citric twang.
Maybe not as carbonated as I would like - like those scrubbing bubbles. This one is pretty darn good, I just do not like it as much as others do.

Reviewed on 8/28/08. Bottle courtesy of iowaherkeye. Pours a hazy orange with a thick white head. Aroma of clove and citrus. Lots of fruits (citrus, lots of orange, melon) in the mouth, some vegetable notes (same ones I got in the Imperial Weizen). Strong for a hefe but supremely drinkable.

Purchased from the Hilltop brewery in New Glarus, WI. Poured into a weiss glass this beer showed a bright golden body with a white head. Aroma of fruity esters most notably cloves and a faint bubble gum character. Mouthfeel was light bodied with crisp carbonation. The malt and wheat flavors were good, but not outstanding. Good drinkability, but I wasn't reaching for a second one.

Dancing Man wheat pours a hazy copper color, with a large lacy head. The smell has a strong wheat notes with alot of spices. The taste is creamy, good wheat taste, and a nice subtle blend of the spices. I found it easier to drink then other hefeweizens, and I could easily go for another. Overall I found this enjoyable, and one of the better wheat beers out there.

I got this beer as part of a build-your-own 6 pack of New Glarus beers for $10 (so $1.67 a bottle). Unfortunately, New Glarus does not distribute their beers outside of Wisconsin, so if you want one you'll have to make a trip up to the Dairy State to get it. No freshness date, bit there is a short blurb about the beer on the front label.
Pour this one slowly as the head rises quickly. Even with a careful pour, my weizen glass was filled from top to bottom with fluffy white foam that wouldn't go down for several minutes. After the head receded, the beer showed itself to be a hazy pale gold color, and it left moderate lacing.
The smell had a huge, and typical, banana/clove aroma to it.
In addition to the sweet banana and spicy clove flavor, there was also a boatload of citrusy lemon in here, giving the beer both a tart and sour flavor. Some bready wheat malt adds some more sweetness to the beer, but it is the lemon that was the big surprise here.
Medium bodied with only moderate carbonation. It could have used more spritz and less lemon.
It's a good hefe and the 7.2% abv is well hidden. I just wish they hid a little more of the lemon as well.

Poured from a bottle into a hefe glass. Good banana scent as soon as I opened the bottle.
A: Two fingers of golden head, collapsing fairly quickly to one lingering finger, leaving only slight lacing on the sides. Hazy, and just a tad dark. Actively effervescent. The fine bubbles form a creamy, stable head, expected with all that wheat-y, yeasty protein.
S: Banana, wheat, and yeast. I get a touch of clove, but very little of the cinnamon the bottle describes. Perhaps a bit of tart noble hops?
T: Solid. Wheat in good proportion, good but not overwhelming banana, and a hint of the clove, just like the nose. Mild, lingering bitterness. On the high end of boozy for the style, but otherwise almost frighteningly true to form.
M: Good chew from the wheat, and spot-on effervescence. Refreshing, but for a bit too much alcoholic heat.
D: Pretty high. This is New Glarus, after all. I would ding this beer for its alcohol content, but it is one of the better examples of the style if you're going for authenticity. A well-executed beer, if you're in the right mood, this will please almost as well as any true Bavarian. I wouldn't call it sessionable--but certainly very drinkable.

Tried inverted pour from 12 oz bottle into a 22 oz glass....got some very minor overflow.
A: The head at first was 5 or 6 fingers, but then down to a normal three or so. It's white, with bubbles of all sizes and decent active carbonation. The color is fairly orange/golden on not the dull color I would want from a hefe. It's hazy, but not really from the yeast it appears to me. The head shrinks fast.
S: I get wheaty, but I also smell some bland fruity hops and almost a Belgian yeast funk. Some candy sweetness. Something I really link to a sour smell. Not bready or wheaty enough at all.
T: Still fruity and not wheaty. It also isn't boozy, which impresses me with the flavors being what they are the ABV being what it is. I don't taste banana or clove or anything like what I would expect here. Though I don't totally dislike it. Hmm, I take that back, I get a very VERY mild banana aftertaste like what you'd get in a smoothie that was banana AND something.
M: Smooth, but a little flat to be honest, which is a nice change of pace from most hefes that blow you up like a balloon. It's not thin or sharp, nor is it chewy, it's a good, almost milky middle ground.
D: Very drinkable. Interesting flavor, interesting mouthfeel. I will be happy to finish up what I have, but not sure if i want more.

Pours with lots of foam that makes for a rocky, yeasty head which falls to a thin, loose layer of bubbles. Smells of banana, vanilla maybe a touch of clove. Tastes a bit of vanilla, some navel orange, caramel and then maybe even a touch of cantaloupe. Effervescent. Finishes somewhat tart at first but then sweet. Would prefer more of solidly tart finish. A touch too sweet for me. Quite drinkable given its alcohol content.

a cloudy yellow-orange pour, lots of visible carbonation, 3 fingers of head
smells of lemongrass, pepper.. more like a saison really.. very bready scent.
tastes of lemon, orange citrus, black pepper.. an excellent tasting beer.
light body, high carbonation, fizzy mouthfeel. not like many wheat beers i've had, this was more like a saison.

A- Color is hazy goldenrod with a fluffy, off-white head that recedes to finger width and sticks around for a while. The head leaves some nice trails of belgian lace around the glass.
S- Banana and wheat are the primary fragrances, followed by a little bit of clovy spice. Malty and sweet with little citrus or fruit.
T- Honey and banana creamsicles with notes of cinnamon and clove. Finishes with just a faint bitterness and alcohol flavor. Overall a very well-balanced and delightful brew.
M- This is a nice medium bodied, creamy beer. Carbonation is higher than average, which gives this beer a crisp bite.
D- Drikibility is high, I could drink this all night and probably most of the next day.

Pours a cloudy golden bronze with a frothy white head and nice lacing. Aroma is medium sweet, wheat, banana, clove and bread. Flavor is wheat, banana, bubble gum and dough. Finishes somewhat long and dry. Medium bodied sticky texture. Dan Carey makes the best German beers this side of the pond!

A: A hazy golden color with a two finger, fizzy white head that almost disappears instantly. No lacing.
S: Lots of bubblegum with tiny hints of cloves and banana. Not much else here.
T: Yeasty bubblegum up front which slowly fades into a sweet caramel flavor. More fruitiness at the end.
M: Well carbonated, crisp, clean, a bit on the thin side.
D: Not a bad wheat, but I was expecting a lot better head retention and a more wheaty mouthfeel.

Poured from a bottle into a pint glass. It pours a straw color with a 1 inch, basically white, head that is thing but slowly reduces to a nice lacing around the edges. Quite carbonated and no sediment.
The aroma is quite good with notes of banana and clove. There is a bready feel to it and additional sweetness that I can't quite place.
The taste is, as the nose. A decent level of banana and bread with a clove spiciness that accents well. There again lingers a sweetness that is almost like generic gum.
The mouthfeel is medium bodied with a healthy dose of carbonation that was a bit too much for me, given the flavor but actually cuts the intensity. Smooth and yet leaving a velvet texture at the finish with mild dryness.
Overall, this is a reasonably good beer. I'm impressed by the rating that it has but a little surprised. I think it is definitely worth trying and quite good.

Received this as an extra from both Beersis81 and maximum12.
A: golden and cloudy with a big frothy head almost three fingers thick on top. As it disappates some big bottles form in the middle of the head, but the lacing is very good.
S: Alot of bubble gummy esters that make me feel like i have stuff my face in a box of bazooka joe, with maybe a hint of banana.
T: Banana esters that finish rather sweet and bubble gummy. I hate bananas but like this beer.
M: Only the slightest bit of harshness otherwise it it very full bodied and creamy.
D: For me one is enough because of the banana taste, but objectively, i think this one is really easy to drink and many people would enjoy it.

Appearance -- Pours a hazy medium honey amber with two fingers of creamy beige head.
Smell -- Banana, bubblegum, faint clove, and hefe earthiness dominate, along with honey malt and cracked wheat.
Taste -- Banana, clove, toasted honey malt, yeast, bright lemon, apple must, coriander, spicy wheat. Clove and spice become more prominent as the beer warms, with bubblegum and, to an extent, banana fading out for the most part.
Mouthfeel -- Medium-light in body with ample fluffy carbonation. Mildly drying finish.
Drinkability -- Quite a unique hefe. I can see the appeal definitely, but I guess I was expecting a little more. Still, a quality beer and a must try for hefe devotees.

Poured into a shaker pint with the last couple inches swirled before pouring. This bottle was found in a box a beer in my pantry. It was purchased 6 months ago, so it's a bit on the older side for a hefeweizen.
It's a lovely color, a rich golden, deeper than most other hefes. Appropriately hazy from all the resuspended yeast. An inch+ head formed but quickly dissipated. Lots of carbonation visible.
Aroma is all about very ripe bananas, you know the ones that are getting slightly past their prime, a bit sour. Also both wheat and yeast present though fairly mild compared to the banana.
Flavor is more balanced. The standard banana and cloves are present, coming through in that order. There's a bit of bready sweetness at the beginning and a bit more hop bitterness than is most common for a hefe coming in at the finish. There's also very little sign of the 7.2% abv which is quite remarkable.
Mouthfeel is very nice. Lots of carbonation, very bright in the mouth with an excellent richness to the body.
This is a very good beer, though I must say that I think it probably would have received higher ratings last summer when it was fresh. I drank a fair amount while visiting the folks in Wisconsin. I guess I'll have to re-rate next summer when I get some fresh again.

First had: bottle thrown as part of a trade/buy from Brian/Beerisheaven. Thanks!
I poured this one into my Zero Gravity tumbler. A pale, golden yellow liquid, clear but for a little bit of yeast sediment. Poured with an initial huge mass of foamy white head that almost filled the glass, but soon calmed down to a thin layer. Champagne-like carbonation. Aroma of grains and spicy wheat, light banana esters. Taste is very nice, with notes of grains, typical wheat profile, but with the banana noted in the nose coming to prominence mid-palate, leaving no doubt that this is a hefeweizen. Breadiness and light spice also noticed. Medium in body, a bit sticky at first, but overall smooth, crisp and flavorful. Goes great with food, and is generally an extremely drinkable brew.

A: Well carbonated brew here. Head is a towering mass of creamy whipped butter colored bubbles so much that I need to wait to continue pouring. The body is a cloudy and drab peach colored hue leaning towards the dull side of things.
S: Spicy wheat, soured grass clippings, some smooth green banana, clove and a pinch of black pepper.
T: Starts out with a nice balance of dried hay, fresh grass clippings and young banana essence. Transition is seemless to white grape, little bit of limestone and just a tad of grainy flavors. Sweetness is delicate but somewhat cloying after a bit. Finishes yeasty and dry but a solid wash a sweetness across the back sides of the tongue.
M: Medium body and smooth.
D: Very nice German style hefe indeed. Its a tough balance to get the dry, sweet and grainy flavors just to the right level and these guys at New Glarus are no slouches. Totally enjoyable but I wonder how many I could drink.

A - pours a nice light rust orane with about a 1/4 inch of foam that quickly disappeared and left only a ring of bubbles around the glass with no lacing whatsoever
S - nice wheat aroma with hints of orange and banana
T - wheat taste with hints of banana and orange but an overwhelming taste of bubblegum
M/D - nice medium bodied Hefe that keeps me coming back to the glass frequently. I've been very happy with all my New Glarus brews and I only wish I could get them locally. Nice stuff.

A: Pours a hazy light golden color with a fluffy white head.
S: Yup, this smells like a hefe (and a good one at that)! Belgian yeast and banana dominate the aroma.
T: After the smell I thought this would just be your average hefe, but not quite. The 7.2% ABV, quite high for the style, gives this beer a different flavor than any other hefe I've had. Yes it's got that typical banana/yeast flavor, but this is a bit of a heftier beer than I'm used to in this style. It's maltier and not nearly as crisp or refreshing as your average hefe, but this all works very well.
M: Mouthfeel is a little heavier than your average hefe, but still on the light-bodied side of the spectrum and very carbonated.
O: This is a nice hefe, and one a little different from your average one, but I don't really see what all the fuss is about with this. It's a good beer, but not an outstanding one. This definitely is not on the same level as the Live Oak.

A: again w/ the large frothy head. What a pretty site! Somewhat cleaner looking golden pour, compared to the Unplugged Hef, but still somewhat hazy golden...Yet, very active at the same time as the bubbles continue to rise...
S: To be honest, smells much like the Unplugged Hefe as well... bit lighter..but grassy, sweet, lemon-citrus twists...bits of banana and clove maybe?
T: Somewhat along the path tha the nose takes you...the hints of clove and banana followed by some grassiness and citrus...yeasty presence showing its wheat backbone
M: Fairly solid for hefe, but nothing spectacular per say...
O: Pretty good brew here. New Glarus pumps out quality! Try it if you haven't.
