This is the best stout beer I have ever had.

Just took a road trip up to New Glarus WI and picked up a case of this brew (and a couple others) on me and my wife's wedding anniversary. Unfortunately, they didn't have it on tap there for tasting, but I figured I would like it just the same, and boy was I right!

This brew is best slightly chilled, but not too cold, because you want to be able to fully taste the flavor potential this beer has to offer. It is perhaps a little on the tame side of things, almost enough to make this a session beer, but what it has comes together perfectly. The mark of a true quality beer is the 10 second rule. Take a swig, wait 10 seconds, and then what you taste after that is the mark of quality. Initial flavor (including scent) is smooth, dark malt, slightly sweet, and slightly bitter and smoky with a little coffee and hints of chocolate and caramel. But, wait 10 seconds and it hits you. Whatever it is, I'm unable to fully describe, but to try, in two word: delicious satisfaction. Try the brew, let it linger a moment, and you'll know what I mean. If you don't, then I feel sorry for you.

There isn't really any one specific thing that makes this brew stand out to me. However, it seems just about the perfect balance of everything that makes a stout of this caliber good, excluding perhaps the over-dramatization and intensity of some other offerings. (Just be done with it and become a chilli pepper head, or something, if that's what you're after... Not that there's anything wrong with that.)

Even from the bottle, chilled, but not cold, I can not recommend this beer too much. Get one (or preferably several) now.

Mine was poured into a New Glarus flute-like pint glass that I got from the brewery's sampling garden.

Large pillowy bronze colored foamy head. Brew is medium viscosity and black. Awesome "tight" lacing.

Very light caramel scented coffee aroma.

Smooth, crisp, lingering finish, well put together, light, aromatic, lots of caramel, slight hint of coffee and is well placed. My only gripe is that it's a bit too light.

Recommended, but not a "must find". Thanks for sharing!
